Egg Fly (Pom Pom)
In this video I demonstrate how I use Pom Poms to make easy egg flies. Make sure you put your needle & thread through the tough center of the pom or it will not be as durable as it should be.

Isonychia Wiggle Nymph abdomen
Переглядів 7968 років тому
In this video I use American Fishing Wire to create the abdomen of an Isonychia Wiggle Nymph. Most tiers do this on a bare hook shank but I had this wire hanging around so I used it and liked the resulting profile much better. You can search the wire and find it. 30 feet will set you back about 3 dollars and allow you to make a bunch. I fold it around a needle in my vice to the length I want th...

Cinder Worm or Leech Flat splinted Chamois
Переглядів 4,7 тис.11 років тому
This technique of splinting the chamois keeps the tail section from wrapping around the bend of the hook during a cast. This pattern imitates and moves like the cinder worms that swarm in salt water estruaries but by changing the color it can imitate leeches that swim in fresh water also. Total length varies depending on what I'm trying to replicate.

Light Cahill

This is a Catskill style Light Cahill Dry Fly with the tying thread wound through the hackle for added durability. Tied on a #12 dry fly hook with a turkey biot abdomen, I used 8/0 light yellow Uni-Thread and Coq de Leon barbs for the tail. The wing is wood duck.

Here is a video showing how I tie a slender 5 inch Sand Eel. In the video I use bucktail but you can use any material you like. I try to keep the braided sleeve about 1/3 the length of finished fly so it has freedom of movement. The link to where I bought the sleeving is www.electriduct.com/PET-Expandable-Braided-Sleeving-COLORS-by-the-Foot_p_128.html It is sold by the foot in many diameters an...
Bunny Fly (foul proof 2 color).wmv
Переглядів 28512 років тому
This video shows how I tie a two color foul proof bunny fly. The hook I used is an Eagle Claw 254 SS. You can use any short shank hook you want. The stiff mono acts as an extention of the shank and prevents the tail section from wrapping around the bend of the hook.

Tying instructions for a extended tail Cinder Worm. The monofiliment extention reduces the weight of the pattern and prevents the the tail from wrapping around the bend. It also allows me to tie any length body on a short shank hook.
Sand Eel extended body.MPG

Here is a method that will create a slim and trim Sand Eel. The extended mono body helps maintain the slim profile in the fibers behind it and also helps prevent the fibers from wrapping around the bend of the hook. The braided mono used is 50 lb. test.

I hope it works for you.

      Yes I wet it with water in a cup. Much easier to handle that way.

    This pattern would be good for salt water,but with more flexible tying materials could be used for fry patterns

    No weight? How does the mealworm get down to the bottom or close to it? Do you use a sinking tip line?

    • @steingm
      @steingm 10 років тому

      It sinks but if I need to get deeper I add a split shot to my leader. I use a floating line.

    i dont realy "get" this fly, how u bind it? why use the under layer when you are tying it over whit nymph strech skin over it? is it just because the volume in the fly? it must be a better way to do that fly..

    • @icefisher1171
      @icefisher1171 Рік тому

      School is a good thing, my friend. Your speech, on the other hand, is not. At all. Word salad headache material. Stay in ass or return to. Wow. What's there to "get" ? He wants a fat worm, so he lays down an underbody. It could not be more simple. At all. Definitely revisit the classroom. And pay attention this time. Good grief.

    great info, Thanks so much. What size and type of hook do you use for this fly?

  • @steingm
    @steingm 12 років тому

    @jump5qq I cast them with an 8 or 9 wt.line. I use the black bunnies for stripers at night and largemouth bass . The other colors work great on pike and bass in fresh water and they catch just about anything in saltwater.
