@6:20 Those 3 bearded men from latin america wanted some sort of Social engineering (political science) project, similar to the 1920s the government of the Soviet Union embarked on a campaign to fundamentally alter the behavior and ideals of Soviet citizens, to replace the old social frameworks of the Russian Empire with a new Soviet culture, and to develop the New Soviet man. Commissars became agents of social engineering. The Cultural Revolution (CR), formally known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, was a sociopolitical movement in the People's Republic of China (PRC). It was launched by Mao Zedong in 1966 and lasted until his death in 1976 In India, social engineering was effectively done in the state of Bihar, on a grand scale, to unify different castes after 2005. In his political science book, The Open Society and Its Enemies, volume I, The Spell of Plato (1945), Karl Popper made a distinction between the principles of 'what he called "piecemeal social engineering" and Utopian social engineering..
Terimakasih abah telah menyumbang pemikiran saya atas konstruksi sosial terhadap kenyataan kita
Such a great sociologist, with great ideas and understanding of the sociology and society. Ofcourse Berger too. I dont understand how it is so much underrated. As a catalan speaker i'm very lucky Joan Estruch did translate the book so well and detailed. Nothing to do with the spanish translation.
RIP
That all constructions are not equally valid seems ground on which to stand even in this shifty time. Many thanks for this thoughtful interview.
"Not all constructions are equally valid." Truth.
Brengkele terus sopo kui goblok men geek men keminter. Sing gig ngono loh, asu kabeh mbek sopo kowe, ndelogig.
Teşekkürler Berger
Thank you Dr Berger.
Great contribution to sociology, sir.
Peter Berger's friendship with Thomas Luckmann 00:00 to 2:28
I just dont see how you can make such great works out of nothing other than the theory of others. Its been many years since Ive read it but it did not give much meaning to me when I did, and the use of it in contemporary culture does not entice me to read it again. Why does it always seem that the big works of religious critique always, in a sense, end up looking religious?
Like!!!!
🌷
Even the social scientists know how to laugh...😍
Thanks for this interview
Two great men has gone, but their ideas will resonate for long, this is what a life ought to be, Sociology of knowledge will be incomplete without bringing peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann in to the discussion.
This is beautiful to read. Thomas Luckmann was my grandfather and I am starting to understand his works and his doing. Interviews like this and his book keep him alive for me. So I thank you very much for this comment it lightened my mood on this special day
This is very precious for me too. Thanks. I am overwhelmed by this. I am just about to finish the work "Social construction of reality", just few pages left and it is changing me from inside out. This is really kind of "world" changing stuff. May he RIP. He and his collegue will always be in the conscience of the intellects and street people alike, always whoever read this great work.
@@anisa9236 you are so fortunate
I am very interested in this concept of pluralism.
I feel that people that "know of" the book instead of reading it seem to think that there is no realism in it. I must admit that I thought so myself before reading it. To me, I dont see the contradiction between this theory and biological theories of human behavior.
Berger and Luckmann's theory is opposite of biological theories in that they see people as having an instinctual deficit that is compensated for by culture. In other words they see culture as a substitute for our lack of instincts. If you remove the structure provided by norms and values (i.e. culture) people are left in a state of anomie (borrowing from Durkheim), which Berger and Luckmann view as a state of meaninglessness and terror.
Godfather of my knowledge! <3

Thank you for great video.

Social Constructivism as Paradigm? The Legacy of The Social Why are Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann Austrians?
Is he saying securization theory or secularization theory at 14:56?
Omg, thank you for this interview, being from a sociology background I would prefer to see all the prominent sociolists articulating their concepts by themselves, original is always better than translation. Thank you a ton for this beautiful interview.
🥰🥰🥰 thank you for this interview😇 We cant see Karl mark and other sociologists talk about their theories and perspectives, nice to see him, greetz and other social scientists talking about their works.
Well, I mean, Buddhism had it first, but since that does not count towards Western science, this is the thing. Especially with people ideologizing the idea that everything is a social construct and abusing the concept towards political or social activist goals, quotes like "not all constructions are equally valid" and that "Not to be able to distinguish reality from ideology is actually the clinical definition of schizophrenia" are the sound of reasoning we definetly need these days.
real ID se aao Suneet sir
Yes, I agree! I stumbled upon this subject because I was independently proposing a similar model for the scientific West but inspired by Buddhism. Story Immersion and Narrative engagement are different facets of the mental construction of reality, including the Self. I am hooked!
LEGEND!
listen to his fatherly admonition .. "all is narratuve no fact" is wrong .. not *all* construction is equal .. dont construct man as woman and vice versa!!!!!!! there the sugar daddy of "reality-construct-ism" is bitch slapping the leftist, the postmo and the pansexual LGBTQ+ bullshit for their mouthfulness!!
This is a good man. It’s amazing just how much his ideas have been co-opted by the left.

Wonderful words from a wonderful man!
Thank you, Dr. Berger, for your contribution to the social construction of our reality.
Society is more than just a social construction. The Bible had a tremendous impact on society but you cannot say the Bible is just a social construction. The Bible makes distinctive claims that are set it above a social construction.
bryanpepperell did you read the book?
makes claims. There you said it yourself.
@@Elizaluppi which book do you mean? Sounds to me that he read none of them fully.
He makes a valid point though. At what level does divine inspiration and revelation, be it in the Bible or from a a saint or a shaman, influence the construction of reality???
Well religion is nothing more than a social construct, isn‘t it
Thank you for this interview. I was influenced by the book and wondering about the writers. This fresh video made me happy.
Thanks for this!!
