A Band of Brothers - MANUP?
We sit down with James from 'a band of brothers' to talk about what makes a difference for men at risk-whether coming out of prison or teetering on the edge. Our charities are about more than just PR; we’re here to save lives and give blokes a chance to turn things around.
We discuss how purpose can change everything for a man and why we should stop writing people off just because they’ve made a few mistakes. It only takes one person to believe in you, which can be the difference between life and death. We both know that from personal experience.
This chat covers the real work being done to give men a future for themselves and their families and communities.
Key Points:
Why men need purpose and accountability
Giving blokes a chance to make amends and turn their lives around
Why MANUP? and A Band of Brothers aren’t just about talking-we’re about action#manupstigma #mensmentalhealth
MANUP? is a mental health charity that's based in the UK. We do things differently than telling men to 'get help' because they tend to ignore it... We speak to men like men to highlight how they deal with whatever issue or problem.

MALE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE with Jody from Jonathan’s House Ministries

Why is it that when we talk about male domestic violence, we get comments like “it happens to others more”? Does that mean we shouldn’t talk about it? Does it mean men’s experiences don’t matter as much? In our latest video, Dan from MANUP? sits down with Jody from Jonathan’s House Ministries to discuss why he started a sanctuary for men who’ve been through domestic violence. The sad reality is...

    Thank you for posting this video with Josh. It acts as a stark reminder to align with our nature of giving, compassion and honesty to find our true selves. It's a constant daily battle to attempt to remain in this state, in a world that has an infinite amount of destructive paths and influences. As Josh said, with prayer we can call upon God for strength and guidance. Thank you both and God bless.

    It’s not just men’s mental health. It also how men are projected to society. Why does it feel so ENTITLED to SHAME men. How do you think men will fight back DA. We have been told to leave women alone & that just exactly what we are going to do. It’s just not worth the emotional crap to put up with .

    Love Manup and have a question ? How does a single 50+woman ( me ) find a sober man ? I live in Australia and like the U.K, drinking is ingrained into everyday life. I have been on 1st dates where men down 4-6 drinks ( no excuse ). One said he drinks every night and another aged over 60 gave me a hard time on the lunch date for not drinking. I had to spend 10 minutes defending my life choices. The last one gave me a hug hello and I could smell the vodka stench through his Calvin Klein Au Di Toilette. I lost my man of 25 years , 10 years' ago and had no clue how many alcohol dependant men are out there. Please help ?

    Men need male only spaces ,men only clubs ,male only teams ,boyscouts, and other men's groups !! Men need that comraderie with other men ,doing things with other men ,talking with other men !! Men to relate their issues with other men !! Boys need the same things !! Boys and men need safe spaces as well !!

  • @DavidBessette-o5m
    @DavidBessette-o5m 2 місяці тому

    Men's issues are always overlooked and never taken seriously!! They are dismissed and forgotten !! No one listens !! They are talked down to ,and told to take it ,they say toxic masculinity or other lame duck excuses !! There are limited to no resources at all and offer limited help at most !! They are often ignored and mistreated rather than helped !! The mental health system is only geared to help women and fail when it comes to men !!

  • @DavidBessette-o5m
    @DavidBessette-o5m 2 місяці тому

    When it comes to male suicide and mental health ,the biggest problem is the mental health industry is full of women who fo not understand how men think !! Men need solutions and not talk ,whenever men talk they get shut down !! They are often told talk about feelings rather than talk about the issue and offer solutions that make a difference!! The men are not really given what they need and in fact they make things worse for men ,who then finish the job !! Men need male psychologists ,male psychiatrists and male therapists!! We need male treatment by males because they can relate to the male brain !! That is the problem with mental health today !! There is very few therapists who understands male thinking !! It is easier to help women than men !! Men's mental health is so foreign that therapists really have no answer for men accept trying the female way !! Men feel worse than ever and are even more isolated than ever !! That is why take their lives !!

    Can you imagine when the Marianas Trench continues to CRACK and what more its CLOSER TO THE INNER CORE OF MOTHER GAIA!!!

  • @DavidBessette-o5m
    @DavidBessette-o5m 2 місяці тому

    You have done a solid job outlining the issue !! The solutions are few and far between !! There are virtually very little resources to help men deal with this issue !! Therapy doesn't work ,because the therapist doesn't understand how men think !! They understand women well !! Drugs are not a good idea either ,because the side effects are not good !! Psychiatry doesn't work either because again male brains are foreign them ,psychologists have no clue either for the same reason !! Men look for solutions ,not express feelings like women do !! Whenever these issues get talked about ,they get ignored like all men's issues !! How are you going to help a man who feels worthless ,useless, hopeless and powerless to fight his problem !! Men are always told to just take it and fix yourself !! That is garbage !! Many men are suffering from many catastrophic issues in their lives !! But no one listens, no one offers programs ,no one offers sound advice ,men are constantly being shutdown by society at large and the culture plays a major role in it !! Men are constantly being attacked just for being male !! Every action they do is considered wrong, they voice their opinions and they get shamed, they get demonized, humiliated ,embarrassed ,they deal with gender discrimination, they deal with racism ,they deal with the gender bias in schools ,they get treated badly at home by single mothers ,they get abused by society ,education ,job discrimination, they are told all kinds of negative things everyday !! They lose their kids in divorce and family courts ,they are constantly blamed for things they did not do !! Right now there is no programs ,no mental health for men ,because of the loneliness epidemic ,they have no friends or loving partner to turn to ,there is nowhere to turn !! There is no help hot line to call ,there is no shelters or men's help centers to help them ,they have no male mentors and or fathers to turn to !! It is so bad even the church don't want to help either !! Men losing their jobs ,men getting divorced because their partners are bored and lose everything, men losing dear ones and are publicly shamed ,there are no mens clubs ,no men's only spaces to vent ,so what does society do about this massive issue ? They do nothing because men are deemed worthless!! Everything goes to girls who have the same problems, there is sympathy for girls in this position but boys are told to suck it up and take it !! What kind of worthless advice is this !! People know the statistics but generally don't care !! They make no effort or put in the resources to try and end this problem !! It is great people are talking about it !! We need ACTION !! MEN NEED HELP !!

You left your wife and kids to fend for themselves, never paying child maintenance, left us in debt and “never wanting anything to do with us” I hope you’re proud of the “dad” you are, you really helped us grow as people, showing me the person to not chose as a father figure. Thank you for this because if it wasn’t for you, your wife and kids wouldn’t be as strong as they are today, you’re abusive, physically and mentally and i find it offensive that you are talking about mental health when you drained us of everything. Hope you’re enjoying your free life you abusive father. Hope everyone knows how horrible you really are.

    I'm way beyond caring if something is or isn't macho, the problem I have found with mindfulness is that it's fleeting, yes you can make your mind stop thinking about all the shite but not for long, and then you're right back in it. It can help you score the penalty, but what about the rest of the game?

    Dan, In order to accept that mindfulness has a value for each one of us, we have to stop following the macho attitude to things we don't understand and automatically reject them. This only goes to show our ignorance (and fear) of things we don't understand. Trouble is, we will never understand them if we lock ourselves into rejecting those other things meaning we will always remain ignorant. If we really want to show our manliness, it is by doing the things we fear and experiencing them before automatically making dismissive judgements. We've proven to ourselves we CAN improve ourselves physically so why not choose to try to improve ourselves mentally? Steve makes the case superbly, but if we still fail to 'give it a go' and use this powerful technique to help us in our lives, we (men) are the losers. Mindfulness can be as simple as paying attention to our breathing to help us reach a place of peace - very useful when all around us may be kicking off like a volcano! As you may realise, like Steve, I'm a convert and initially thought it was 'meh' (or 'yuk') when I first encountered it, but, and this is the key for most men, I kept an open mind and did not close myself off to the potential that mindfulness might offer me. We all need methods of maintaining our mental balance and mindfulness is the easiest and most effective I've ever found.

    Good discussion. My Definition of TM is the projection by TFs of anything TFs dislike about men. A toxic feminist has the following personality traits: narcissism neuroticism rumination and manipulation. Stoicism is far more effective at preventing suicide attempts than womens talking, as three times more women attempt suicide than men. This is supported by the latest research. The key message is that TM does not cause suicide, it is the family breakdown loss of job major life traumas that do. Talking is a prevention factor not a cause.

    I genuinely have seen vast behavioural differences between those who have substance addiction vs. alcohol addiction. I’ve been a heavy class A drug user in my past and been around addicts of all types and alcohol addicted people are typically more aggressive, attacking and blaming than substance users. And as a woman from a family of larger women, believe me, sugar addictions are mocked and undermined, and the substance (sugar) is rammed in our faces too and with no care and only blame and shame. We need to genuinely think of addictions of all types and how they manifest differently. I come from an alcoholic dad and stepmum and a mum who had a sugar addiction and with a partner who has had experiences of being on the end of someone else with addiction too. It’s hard and it varies in every person so we need to talk more and learn more. Such a painful experience for this woman and her family. Sending my love and support.

Now, all these years later, your doctor should know better! I love your channel Colin and I think that with some time hopefully you’ll gain some confidence in your body. I live in the US and one big problem here is the ads for meds. They try to convince you that you need everything and for a person with health anxiety that is a really bad thing. They want you to go to your doctor and tell them that you need this drug or that drug and of course, that is just an offshoot of the Dr. Goggle syndrome because you didn't just see it on TV. You Googled it as well. Naturally, the meds they advertise are the high-dollar meds---and I do mean high-dollar!
