Native Seeds/SEARCH
United States
Приєднався 22 кві 2016
Our channel features an insight into the world of seed conservation in the Southwest. We are a small, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving arid adapted crop seeds. We believe we all have a shared responsibility in creating a future with productive gardens and farms, strong communities, and reliable access to healthy food by all residents of the Southwest and beyond.
The mission of Native Seeds/SEARCH (Southwestern Endangered Aridland Resources Clearing House) is to conserve, distribute, and document the adapted and diverse varieties of agricultural seeds, their wild relatives, and the roles these seeds play in the cultures of the US Southwest and Northwest Mexico.

Intellectual property has been protecting plants and seed in the United States since the 1930s. Over the last century, the reach of intellectual property over seeds and plants has consistently expanded. At the same time, there have been a number of international initiatives that have attempted to regulate how plants and seeds are used and exchanged. The result is a complex and changing legal landscape that impacts the way seeds and plants are used as well as who gets to control and benefit from that use.
This workshop will look at techniques used to ensure Indigenous intellectual property, traditional ecological knowledge and traditional crop varieties are protected. We will hear about the key features of intellectual property law and other plant protection and methods that exist in seed stewardship.
This event was held on April 10, 2024 at City High School in Tucson, Arizona.

This Seed Lab tour exhibits where we process all of the seeds we steward. Seed processing consists of drying, cleaning, and testing seeds for germination. All seeds undergo processing before being returned to cold storage or hand-packed by volunteers for distribution. For more information about the many types of seed cleaning methods we use in the Seed Lab, visit www.nativeseeds.org/pages/seed-...

The Seed Bank at Native Seeds/SEARCH

This tour of the Seed Bank walks you through how it is at the core of our conservation efforts. The Seed Bank is where we store over 1,800 varieties of crop seeds under frozen storage conditions, which helps keep them viable for long periods of time. Beyond just seed storage, seeds are grown-out as needed to ensure they stay healthy and adapted to our changing climate, so they can be shared wit...

This video is an overview of the infiltration basins, earthworks, irrigation systems, and other water harvesting infrastructure recently added to the Conservation Center gardens. The Conservation Center sits on a double flood plain, therefore, these rainwater harvesting additions work to mitigate flooding during the monsoon season, and harvest the rain for native trees and vegeatables on site.

Oh my! I've loved these plants ever since I was a little girl. ❤ I'm trying to find a nursery here where I stay in Houston Texas. Can't seem to find.❤❤❤❤
Great video, thanks!
Great education.
How do you make it work with variable sized debris? I have a batch of balsam fir from disintigraded cones.. The seeds vary in weight. They also have variable sized sead wings. The scales are also variable weight.
Many thanks for sharing. Could you please specify the power of your vacuum cleaner?
We have require some seeds of vegetables
Jesus loves us all ❤
God loves us all ❤
Nice build! but . . . you are missing one crucial baffle plate at the top right. (see our original plans) By leaving that out, loads of your lighterseed/chaff will end up in your vaccum claner, which will need emptying frequently, and risks being lost if its good seed and you just had the suction too high. If you put in the missing plate, then the chaff will all fall to the bottom and not be sucked up into the vaccum .
Are there any other types of beans that grow well dry farmed in the desert? I'm not super stoked about having to cook tepary beans for hours.
AMAZING
Should one buy seeds from NS/S' online seed shop? With the context surrounding y'all I almost feel like I'm insulting the legacy of the crops you're conserving even if you make them available to the gawking public. I'm sure it's not that way (I would assume proceeds from the seed shop do something like fund future operations?), but I just thought I'd check, I guess.
You can absolutely buy them online! When we make something available online, it's because we have enough of it to share. And yes, proceeds from online sales help support the mission to conserve and share seeds.
Nice. Thank you! I will use this knowledge when planting in the future. 👍
I wonder if you've given names (as if they were natural bodies or streams of water) to your water-related earthworks that form streams or ponds.
is this viable on rice and its husk?
I've recently received a few melons and cushsaw from y'all. When do you recommend to plant?
The day is good The seed Bank has invited The country and family members The lovely Days
The INDIAN seed bank is originally good ❤❤❤❤💗💓☝️
From where can we buy seeds in india ? And where is our indian seed bank ?
Wow
❤❤❤looking extraordinary ❤❤❤
I've made 8 of them they work great
Is it that dusty you need to wear masks?
I thought it was strange too they're not sanding anything and they're indoors, at first I thought maybe it was because of the seeds but that should be enclosed. It's weird
Excellent work. We are developing a seed bank for a particular plant. We hope we will be able to make a noticeable mark one day.
🙌🏽 Great work!!
My name is Widarto from Indonesia, I'm glad to see your video channel. I'm also a sunflower farmer in Indonesia, but I'm confused about selling them, if I sell them to your country, is that possible🙏
Hello I would like to know if you sell them
I make that style hit me up
What's with the face diaper?
I don’t know if this is why he’s wearing it, @kennethjohnson4280, but working with grain can be an incredibly dusty process. I grow fungi for a living and clean a lot of grain for spawn production. I wear a mask when cleaning grain so as not to inhale all the dust. It’s possible that’s what’s going on here.
Protection.
Keep doing what you’re doing! Save the genetics <3
2:15 San Carlos Devils Claw 👍
Gotta love it!
😅 Europa und andere trockene Flächen helfen und grisen. Zzssss ... tolle Flächen, kein Speicherplatz
Do you have any recommendations on how to clean seed that has fluff attached (ie. strawflower)? Thanks!
Did you purchase the machine or build it yourself?
Can you try basil?
I couldn't understand a word you said with that damn mask on. Considering you're wearing it in an intimate setting with someone you know shows me all I need to know...
Protect native seeds
Where would I buy old blue? Doesn't have to be yours, but I'm wondering if you can link out where to buy a machine like it?
Super
Do these benefit from inoculation like other legumes?
Thanks for the tip about freezing. When you take them out of the freezer how do you keep them from getting wet from condensation? Do you use like a desiccant packet?
When we remove seeds from refrigeration, before opening their sealed container, we leave them until they reach room temperature, then open.
Great stuff! A longer video where we can see these at work would be a great follow-up video!!
Is it possible to germinate wetland species like lepironia articulata seed using same method ?
I think it would also help if your chaff door was sealed better. The fact that the chaff was bouncing around so much means that the vacuum was pulling a lot of air in through that door rather than only up through the seed pathway.
Hi! Were you able to dial it in and consistently separate the majority of your amaranth seed? I want to grow amaranth and quinoa and I'm wondering if this is a good winnowing solution.
Yes. with adjustments to the chaff door on top we saw improved results.
This is a great organization and they also sell beautiful art and products from Indigenous artists. Donate to them !!
Good to see people doing good work. Do you have a copy of the long-term storage at a second location?
Yes we do, in Colorado.
Soy de peru por favor puede enviar el planito de cosntruccion gracias

hey! do you think is going to be good to clean hemp seeds ?
We've found that smaller seeds do great in this machine.
fantastic~ got some great ideas to implement around my yard, too~ thank you!
