    Two keys to six doubles - keep barrel low enough to visually pick up low house then move quickly to the break point. Next MAKE SURE you stay in the gun to break the high house as it appears, moving toward the low house. If you lift your head or pull it off the stock, you probably will miss. Do this and you will break station six consistently.

    A year later, you still enjoying the Z-Sport? I'm trying to decide between the Z-Sport and a CG Invictus 1 right now. Also, I see you're in Colorado (or, at least, UA-cam thinks you are) - do you know of a decent shop with a broad selection of O/U shotguns at this price point in the state? Everyone says how crucial fit is, but it seems like there's nowhere around to actually try and compare.

      On station 4 doubles I feel like I’m “chasing” the second bird. In other words it’s not smooth and comfortable. Seems like im not looking for the second bird fast enough. Any eye drills you can suggest to get to that Bird quicker? I’m older, so…reactions time isn’t as good but I’m hitting them 75% and I feel like I should still be able to raise that break rate to be more competitive. Thank you.

    • @DeanBlanchard
      @DeanBlanchard Місяць тому

      As for eye exercises. I do eye pushups. Focus on something close then something farther away. I do these to the left, straight and right. Another way to get on the second target faster is to work on shooting just the first target to see if you could learn to shoot it faster. Being older I would suggest sustained lead. Best of luck.

    • @DeanBlanchard
      @DeanBlanchard 3 місяці тому

      Past 25 yards I recommend full choke. As far as speed. 1150 will break the targets as long as you are confident. Most shooters I know shoot a faster shell.

    Does anyone know the actual angle relative to the shooter of hard- and quarter-angle targets from posts 1 and 5? Thanks.

    • @DeanBlanchard
      @DeanBlanchard 4 місяці тому

      I am sure someone might have figured it out. However not all trap fields are set to regulation. From station 3 I believe the targets can go 44 degrees total from the hard right or left. That would make more of an angle on station 1 and 5. Another factor is wind. Wind can push the target creating more or less of an angle depending on the wind. You are overthinking it.

    • @randallkadish5663
      @randallkadish5663 4 місяці тому

      @@DeanBlanchard Jeff Meloy told me that NORMAL hard-angle targets from posts 1 and 5 fly at an angle of 38.5 degrees, assuming that - the way we are measuring - a straightaway is 0 degrees.

    Then you'll get that low, hard right and your going to be chasing that target to hell and back because it was blocked from view by your barrell. This may work better on sporting clays where you have a set target line. That all changes with a trap setup with the wobble turned on. Just my 2 cents worth.

    • @DeanBlanchard
      @DeanBlanchard 5 місяців тому

      The main concept is to set up to see the target early and to minimize gun movement. You would have a lot more movement shooting wobble trap. Thanks for the comment.

    Really like your understanding that not all peoples eyes work the same and the visual point is specific to the individual. My eyes focus slower than most, so having a soft focus a little further from the window helps me see the target more clearly before it gets past my hold point.

    Great explanation of eye dominance and why it’s important. Dean I am going to introduce my 15 yo grandson to trapshooting. He up to this point has only shot air rifles. He is right handed, left eye dominant. He is very athletic so I am wondering if I should start him shooting left handed? My only concern with doing this is he lives out of state and will only get to shoot when he visits so he won’t get to practice very often. I’m hoping he likes it because he has a gun club only a couple of miles from his house where he could shoot more. Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Terry
