Messines Farm - how it all began
After decades of work as an environmental scientist, Kieran Richardt decided it was time to broaden his horizons. Initially seeking a family-friendly camping spot, things took an unexpected turn when Kieran was captivated by a charming fruit orchard in the heart of Amiens Queensland.
With the potential and opportunity to merge his scientific expertise with his passion for regenerative agriculture, Kieran decided to purchase the farm and name it Messines Farm - messinesfarm.com.au/
Now, Kieran is thriving in his role as a farmer, cultivating the land with sustainable practices. The transition from scientist to farmer has not only brought him closer to nature but also allowed him to create a unique haven for his family and contribute to the local community.
We would like to thank @griffithuniversity and their talented multi-media students for bringing this short film to life. We hope you enjoy it.

SO, Proud of my friend! Well done all! Huge Congratulations!!
Working on this film project as a student was an absolute honour! Kieran and his team were incredibly welcoming and generous. It was an unforgettable experience :)
Great to see the reserves established, progress will be informative. Current and future species present and abundance can provide such interesting information what happened in conjunction with the project. Getting past the first barrier is often the most difficult step.

I’m very happy to announce that I do have one seedling of bottle tree which I plant to grow it in ground. ❤
🥰🥰🥰😍
One of them came into my home via my soil bag i leave outside to use for my houseplants. I put him in my fountain in my house in my shelf of plants. He just lives there now😮 he's not bright green he's dark grey/green like the males shown in the photos here. I wanted to get him a little friend ... You can't order them lol i didn't know they were endangered until today. Perhaps i let him back outside? He's been in my house for 3 months 😬 i order him insects and worms to eat and he LOVES them!

Well done! Keep up the wonderful work you're doing!
Good job folks. Great to see some people that are intelligent enough to understand what needs to be done.
I have one of these Ormeau Bottle trees in my front yard. Had no idea it was so unique. Picked it up as a 1m high seedling from a local Bundaberg weekend market with a tag saying Qld Bottle tree its now 8 years old and just as described the leaves have gone from thin to thick with less segments and its about 5m tall 25cm diameter trunk looking like it wants to touch the sky.
Wow. So glad to see you doing so well Paul. And now you have a PhD. To think I had the pleasure working with you way back in 1997 when I did my 6 month Green Corps traineeship here in gympie. I often wondered where you were now and I had heard you were up in the Kimberly. I ride past your old house and the west side store almost everyday and I think of the work we did behind the hospital and in the gully behind your home. I have a small native garden in my Carlton hill yard and I have a unit I've lived in for a few years. My trees that I've planted have all grown very big in a short time and I still remember you telling us jut to drop the tube stocks and where they fall that's where they get planted. My macaranga I planted as a tube stock tree is now over 4 meters tall and wider than that and has a big trunk. It's doing very well. I've got native gingers and bottlebrush trees and tea trees and a crowsash all growing in a small plot. I love it here still even though there's a lot of housing development being done. I still recall your green four wheel drive, i can't recall if it was a ford or land rover. Good memories and I just wish I had spent more time learning about the plants we grew. But I am reading from time to time and I do a lot of riding around here and I always see something new and I have google to use as a resourceto identify plants etc when I'm out riding as its easier than a field guide which I read at home. Congratulations Paul. I wish you all the best in your career path. You're part of my past life lesson and I will always be greatful to have learnt from you. One tree I will always remember is the hairy birds eye Alectryon tomentosus. You showed me it on your property and I tell people about the tree and they are amazed I know the Latin name. I tell them you told me. Good luck and best wishes.
This is such a beautiful story❤️❤️❤️
They're not "the oldest living ancestor to all land vertebrates", the Coelacanths the Dipnoi are the most recent aquatic ancestors to the tetrapod split. The oldest would be some cell, thats a weird way to say it since all life on earth came from LUCA and has all been evolving for the EXACT same amount of time. In other words, of when the tetrapods came to land, the Dipnoi (lungfish) and the Coelacanths are the closest split off before the evolution of tetrapoda that didn't go extinct. So they are THE CLOSEST EXTANT AQUATIC ANCESTORS TO ALL LAND VERTEBRATES. Not "the oldest living ancestors to all land vertebrates".
That was great i guess don't feel more excited
Magnificent!! What incredible work!
thật tuyệt vời

Thanks for your work!

I have never commented on a UA-cam video in my entire life but ... THIS IS NEXT-LEVEL BRILLIANT edu!
Brisbane and Melbourne are overflowing with possums. Are there any attempts to provide artificial nesting boxes in these cities and establish Powerful Owls?
Great idea. Much better than just ripping them apart. My questions are what size is the large hole and can perspex be used instead of the plywood. Could they be sliced apart between the plies with piano wire similar to a garrotte? I'm just about to make my very first hive here in the Philippines. There's native stingless bees here but don't know what brand/type.
