My adventures in fieldsports
A quick chat from the bench.
Just a reminder that I am at the Sandringham Game and countryside show this weekend. On the BAasC stand with a few knives and leatherwork. So if you do happen to go, make sure you stop by and say hello.

Alright Al good luck with the show sel loads return little. 🤙🦊
Fingers crossed 🤞
Good video Alan !! I see my knife had a cameo role 😂🤣keep up the good work .
There might have been a few more, but I had to cut them out to save time. 😂
Absolutely brilliant video. I was fascinated with how much work goes into making your brilliant knifes, it makes me appreciate my knife more. Thank you for sharing your video.
Cheers Ivor. 👍👍
Can I ask you a question what do you use to split the rib cagege when doing a gralloch is😮 it just a heavy bladed knife or something with a saw blade and is this something you can do
Hi William. I personally don't split the ribcage. Not out in the field anyway. I generally only get roe. I do make some heavy weight knives, which I call my Ghillies. I have also re-handled castrum saws blades. But this is to make matching sets.
It was worth the wait Al - thank you! Your skill is exceptional, I can see how hard you worked on getting it right & I absolutely love it! Also a great vid - time lapse, slow mo - it has it all 👍 We’ll break that jinx soon…. 😉
I know they're out there. I've seen them😂
That's a really nice knife. Video is not too long, it shows the work that goes into making a quality knife.
Cheers Mike. I try to go around 15 mins. But I struggled with this one 🙂
And again. 🤙🦊
And again. 🤙🦊
😂😂
First again. 🤙🦊
😂😂
رائع مين معي😮🤯🙀
Nice bit of foxing mate, yeah I'm like Micheal fish on acid when it's foxing Friday , bang on 🦊👍
Cheers mate 👍
Best colour combo 🤙🦊
Thought you might like it👍
Morning Al 👏🤙🦊
Morning mate👍👍
Guessing you are using the Alpex 4k lrf , of so what IR are you using ?
I am mate. It is the PBIR that I'm using with it.
Hello Al well done mate 👏 you haven't updated your 4k have you I haven't done mine apparently it courses all sorts of problems 😉 just leave it like it is. 🤙🦊
I haven't, mate. A friend of mine was telling me about it, and I did see the latest info about it today. I'm happy with mine at the moment. No need to mess with it. 👍
Calls a buck into 5yds - “that were good” 😅
I had the same problem with foxes seeing my IR too. The reason is that its a 850nm light, so i bought a Night Fox illuminator that simply switches from white light, 850nm and 940nm (also has a dimmer switch and beam adjustment) using the Hik Alpex 4K LRF. Foxes do not see it, its the dogs nuts... have a look All the best CHS
Thanks for the info👍
Likewise I’ve looked at you video enough times now. I’m convinced it’s the same animal Alan.
I looks like the same buck to me Alan.
I have watched this so many times, the angle of the bottom picture makes it looks like the left hand antler is a spiker, but it’s not. It definitely looks like the same buck
Probably, watched it 50 times 😂 the bottom camera angle makes the left hand antler look like a spike but then you see it isn’t, whatda I know 🙄, I wouldn’t put money on them being two different Bucks 😅
I agree the different angles don't help.
Yes
Leather for the black a kydex for polished steel.
A met your wife at blenim place and a had a good look at your knives a had never heard of you but av been watching some of your videos a told your wife the knives were a bit out my league but after seeing what goes into making one a think am going to have one for Christmas 👍👍
Hi Stephen. Thank you very much for taking the time to watch a few videos . I like to show what I do. I've got a video to put together of a commission I did to match a K5 rifle. With a rosewood and walnut handle and a black cerakoted blade.
Well am looking forward to that one. The only problem with your knifes is a want them all 😂😂😂😂👍

I don’t know how people get on with PIP, it’s not a feature I like on scopes or spotters ! Remember to turn your Hotspot off during normal use and the battery will last longer 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I was a bit unsure about the PIP at first. But I do like the idea of still having the wider field of view, which is lost when zooming in with the hole picture. I still need to use it more to be able to give it a better feeling if I prefer one way over the other. Good call for the hotspot👍👍
Defo a cull buck if you had not already got one
I would have left the stag that was blind, he had made it that far
Kydex and a bright colour
Bang on mate 🦊💥👍
Kydex for hygiene and cleaning, as bright as so you never loose it out on a mooch .
Yes I’d love to see the finished product Probably have to own one then 😅😅
Alan, for me it has to be in leather. I’d prefer the leather in a more subtle colour Say greens or brown every time 👍🔪
I'll make a leather one and see how they look👍
Black and orange first then white and green. 🤙🦊
Sounds good. 👍
Al. I’ve same scope what a piece of kit I have been out three times now half hr before darkness . No if needed perfect picture three outings three foxes all within the ht 👍can’t stop telling people how good this scope is for the price 👏👏👍
I had Wrath HD, and though I would invest in the Alpex, particularly for filming purposes. But I'm really impressed all around with it.
Definitely
Thats the exact same reticle I use
On the same wave length mate. 😂
Hello Al I've just got one aswell cracking bit of kit more than happy with it good luck with yours. 🤙🦊
I'm amazed by it. The quality is great and the little things like going in to standby when you put it over the shoulder or lay it on its side and automatically switches back on when lifted up. Clever.
Always use cheap waterproof leggings can throw away when inevitable get ripped or holed.
It's not bad gear , think I shot wigeon out of that same creek last season .
Browning Dirty Burd , waterproof , Windproof and warm or Brandit Parker good ont shore but noisy fo stalkin.
I've been given one of those brandit lightweight smocks that are decent tops for stalking.
well done
Well done to the winner 👏🏻👏🏻
Ace
Congrats ivor 😊
Bang on 🦊💥👍
Well done Mr &Mrs 👏 👏🤙
Second best is best sometimes mate 👌 🤙
It was the only thing I got that week.
Only 2 coats? Great to hear some practical experience.Thank you.
I'll be 75 soon after the season opens and I've still got my Solway Zipper bought in the 1986. I believe it came from the last batch made. I sent it back to Barbour five years ago for repairs to the lining, a couple of small tares and to replace one missing belt loop. It didn't leak but I thought a re-wax wouldn't hurt. Barbour had it for a few months and when returned it was as good as new. I still use walking the dog etc though not as much on the marsh as it can be a bit stiff in cold weather. It's been great value for money. For the past ten years or so I mainly use a Jack Pike modernish camo jacket over a few layers. dead light and flexible just needs reproofing now and then.
