Welcome to our in-depth video on the 5Cs Framework for Circle of Teachers' Learning (CTL). This framework is designed to foster collaborative and effective professional learning communities among educators. Let's break down each step:
Connect (Facilitation Circle)
In this step, teachers assign roles within the group to facilitate a smooth and productive session. Roles include Facilitator, Timekeeper, and Note-taker. The purpose is to establish clear responsibilities, build a sense of connection, and ensure every member is engaged and accountable.
Convey (Word Spark)
Each member shares their thoughts or feelings about the topic using one word. This ensures everyone has a voice right from the start. The goal is to set the tone for the discussion and help focus the group's attention on the central theme.
Collect (Data Carousel)
Teachers take turns summarizing their observations and interpretations of the collected data. This round-robin format ensures equity and comprehensive data analysis. The aim is to gather and understand relevant data to inform the discussion and support evidence-based decision-making.
Consider (Insight Exchange)
This open discussion allows for deeper conversation about observations, lessons learned, and implications. It begins with an emotional check-in to foster empathy and emotional awareness. The purpose is to reflect on the data and insights, incorporating social-emotional skills to enhance understanding and empathy within the group.
Commit (Action Relay)
Each PLC member shares what they will try next based on the discussion, and these steps are recorded by the Note-taker. This step ensures actionable steps are identified, fostering accountability and continuous improvement in teaching practices.
Example Agenda (30 Minutes)
The session starts with the Connect step, where roles are assigned. This is followed by the Convey step, where each member shares one word about the topic. Next is the Collect step, which involves a round-robin data discussion. The Consider step follows with an emotional check-in and open discussion. Finally, the Commit step concludes the session with each member sharing their next steps, which are then recorded.
By integrating social-emotional skills into the Consider step and following the 5Cs framework, this approach fosters a supportive and empathetic learning environment. It ultimately enhances both teacher and student outcomes, aligning with the goal of human-centered learning and holistic educator development.
