A lot of mishmash IS fun! Wow - and floss tube is a thing, isn't it! Nice.
Good luck with the Age of reason reader! That wartime adventure book cover is epic! Love it!
I’ll need some luck 🍀
Yay!! I've just done this too!
I love the cardinal! We don’t have them in Northern Colorado. I had tons of them in Virginia and I miss them so much.
This was a good tag! I laughed out loud when you broke out into “Video Killed the Radio Star “!😆
Jessica! I love to make you laugh!😂
I love your cross-stitching, why is it called floss tube, I'm very curious? Isn't it such a blessing to be productive & creative? Great video - thank you.
Because the thread you use is called Floss! Thank you for your kind words ❤and encouragement!
@@booksoffthebeatenpath: Ah, that makes sense.
You can do anything, Meg, but you also don't have to do everything. We all have preferences & compulsions. I am also a proud slow reader, I think we often soak up more nuance & joy in language & technique, but diversity is the real nirvana. I love your work, & I hope you do also. What is success? I have no idea. But, I hope you are a booming success in '25!
@@apoetreadstowrite Ahhh! Thank you,Phillip! I hope the same for you!
@@booksoffthebeatenpath: Thanks, Meg.
It sounds like Phillip’s poetry is quite powerful and that it would be helpful for someone with similar struggles. I’m glad you enjoyed the Three Investigators book. I read a lot of them when I was a kid because my brother collected them. The 70’s were a much different time, indeed!
We had a lot more fun, I think!
Thanks for your thoughts, Meg. It seems I must seek out Phillip's works. Best.
I hope you do! They are intricately woven pieces.
I second all the descriptions of 1973 childhood. Not a lot of boundary lines, no concept of danger. I remember danger starting by 1980 when we first heard about kids our age being murdered. It was real news, really shocking
I remember riding my bike all over the place, on hot summer nights. Those were the days 😍
I gotta find a way to get into poetry
Heather! I thought you would be way ahead of me in the genre. Your reading is so high level. I’m always impressed by you 😍
@@booksoffthebeatenpath I'm honestly not, I'm very bad with poetry and I don't know what the problem is. I like poems when I do read them or hear them read. It is something about a volume of poetry ... I think I said in one video that it's hard to choose to buy a book of poems when there are so many prose books I want to buy also
@ Poetry can be tough to buy a whole book of 👍
Hey Meg, I know I already commented on your short reads, but if we’re voting for which to focus on, I would 💯 vote for the Dark and Stormy night. Personal interest, I see Anne as a librarian of sorts and that’s exactly the kind of nerdy romantic spooky intrigue that draws me in!
Great opening scene! You setup Ann’s career desperation and painful past well so we understand why she would consider this job from a stranger and dinner. And you add subtle hints that maybe Paul Allen isn’t such a savory character
Sarah! Thank you!
Sounds like the poet really struck deep, dark emotions. Your channel is terrific for providing a variety of literature!
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoy the variety of books I talk about.
Very thoughtful reviews, Meg. Phillip is a treasure. Thank you for highlighting his books.
They were both excellent ❤️
Thanks for the generous spotlight, Meg. I loved how you responded to my work. And the juxtaposition of my two books with 'The Secret of Phantom Lake' was delightful. Thanks for another wonderful video.
Never stop writing, Phillip!
@@booksoffthebeatenpath: Now, that would be impossible.
@apoetreadstowrite Good to hear!
@@booksoffthebeatenpath: You are a gem.
First of all, your cat scared the crap out of me! They waited for just the right moment to pop into the screen. Jump scare much?! And the story gripped me from the beginning. I’m thinking what did poor Anne do to be treated so shabbily and be rebuffed by her father? The mysterious visitor with the book of ancient languages is such a cool idea. I can wait to hear/read how she goes about doing her research and what she finds. I give this one three thumbs up! 👍
Pickles! Thank you!
Out of your three stories I think the Grimoir is my favorite (can't wait to find out what/how she translates). Elemental would be a very close second (love that opening scene in the creepy cold room with the noises above) and then Zero (which I'm sure I'll enjoy, but I don't feel like I've met a main character or characters yet. It felt like a prologue so my brain is waiting for more). :)
Thank you so much for your honesty 😊
I love this one too. I'll listen to the third one to see if I can choose a favorite. :)
Love this! I'm empathising with the heroine (even though she doesn't like pink). Love the mysterious hero! Your writing has us right there in her office and it all feels very real. I can't wait to find out how the story unfolds. :)
Thank you, Cari!
You write great dialogue
Why thank you 😊
I should have put in a comma!!
Yes yes yes
I have read a Ngaio Marsh book before and found it meeh. It was written in the later years and it was a bit boring. I decided not to read anymore from her 🤷🏻♀️
@@BernasBookishAdventures Preaching to the choir! But some people love them! I guess it’s an acquired taste.
This section was spooky and intruguing for sure 😉 I would love to hear more from your works 🙋🏻♀️
@@BernasBookishAdventures Thank you 😊
Phillip is right! What fun to have a wonderfully spooky story read aloud to you. You really are a talented writer, Meg!!
@@jessicaw1839 Thank you, Jessica!
I'm intrigued...
That’s what I was hoping for 🤩
Love this!! Your words really painted a picture. I was totally engrossed. 👍🏼
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Ooh, interesting! I totally want to know what’s going to happen!
Just wait a little bit and you will find out, I promise!
Girl, you are good! You write with such depth. I can totally see the picture. I want to know more!
I am so glad you liked it! ❤️
Great fun - thank you.
Very enjoyable, thanks for sharing this. I must get into audio books, it's such treat to be read to, great fun - thank you.
Thank you for taking the time ❤️
@@booksoffthebeatenpath: it was a treat, Meg.
I really enjoyed this opening chapter. I must continue with my journey into the ghost story & Gothic - marvellous. And I did giggle when I heard my name mentioned, you don't often come across the name anymore. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for listening!
👍🏻
I've always enjoyed Carr as well. My first Carr was The Crooked Hinge. Mad Hatter sounds good.
@@KCRReads I loved the Crooked Hinge. It’s so nice to meet someone who has read Carr!❤️
@@booksoffthebeatenpath Sorry about the 2 comments! I have no button to Delete the ArtStories comment. Can you delete that one? Thx.
Yes, but it had a really cool cover! LOL!
I feel the same way about Marsh I know some people really enjoyed the author but I have not found a book of theirs yet I enjoyed.
That makes me feel better!❤️🩹
Cigarette case question answered! And never heard of 'I couldn't be parked'! Hope it's been easy to get back into the swing of things re work!
Your stories sound intriguing, lots of variety! Your hair looks really nice too, definitely suits you! (I'm amused and intrigued by the 'cigarette case to the head. Was it a slim silver one, the kind a gentleman would carry in his inside, suit-jacket, pocket? Was it stuck in his head? Was it more of a box for storing a large quantity and made of wood that caused a major head trauma?...
@@janerhodes5245 It was a slim one and they spent some time taking peoples cases from them to see if it would fit the dent on his head!🤣
@@booksoffthebeatenpath Oh My Word!😂😂😂
I was envious of the Three Investigators hidden head-quarters! I never gave a thought to who wrote them though. I wonder if the Guard your Daughters book will be frustrating in it's misunderstanding of 'female issues'!
@@janerhodes5245 I’m a little nervous about reading it now😱
@@booksoffthebeatenpath I look forward to hearing about it!
Finding time to write is tricky, but I think you should! I'm in the same sort of boat - things collecting dust! I wrote out a list of activities I enjoy doing, and want to do, and am trying to decide my priorities for them and how much time to spend on them. (I'm watching your films whilst ironing today so it's taking me longer than it should!) I would like hearing snippets of your writing! Also same with books, no ban but definite discernment!
Jane! We can both do this! I want to share with you also!
The person who watches television reads the odd Marsh novel. Will ask him if he knows what that phrase means
Thank you!
Thanks for the forthright, honest review. You are a breath of fresh air.
It’s funny how stuffed up the characters in those types of books sound. Very stiff upper lip and all that rot! Thanks for slogging through so we don’t have to 😊. Looking forward to the next tag!❤
Me too!
Pity it was a slog. I've never read Marsh. I suspect I cracked open a library book eons ago and found the first page a slog. I suspect our 'modern' slang will prove equally unintelligable to future generations. I often find myself wondering WTH does XYZ mean? :)
I have no idea what that means? 🤣
@@booksoffthebeatenpath As a middle aged woman I'm always coming across these capital letter short cuts that we're all supposed to understand. WTH for what the hell (as an example). There are so many (hence XYZ). :)
@ Ohh! Now I get it!
I have no idea what “I couldn’t be parked” means but looked it up. Someone said in a forum that it could mean “couldn’t be certain”. But yea seems overly dramatic of Roderick. Overall the book seems overly dramatic with the victim even blackmailing his own wife-geez! At least this book gave us a chance to see your acting. Well done portraying a character 😉. That would’ve inspired me to read it just to check out that character. 😊
Sarah! Always making me laugh! 🤣
Well, that's lousy, starting the new year off with a bad book. I'm thinking the poetry book will be an improvement.
I’m sure it will be ❤️
The author was from New Zealand!
Well, I don’t know what to say 😮

Elemental and the story of the woman rolling down the hill sound really interesting! Love the haircut, it really works for you! I've been experimenting with home haircuts...🤕

Fun video, happy reading in '25, love the new hairstyle too - terrific variety & very engaging.
