I just got WeChat to work for me and not require a QR code verification after a while of trying - the only thing I did differently was to Sign up using my phone number directly and not Gmail. Also make sure you’re using your first and last name and not a single username. The only thing I had to do after this was the captcha and then I got a verification message to my number without the QR code hassle this time. Hope this helps

to clarify the confusion for what I know, you have to use WeChat from your phone, after following this video instructions, which is very helpful, you will be able to play it. I also have it installed on my iPad, but the WeChat icon does not pop up, nor does it work for the QR scan that part, I’m not too sure why it does that but if you want to still play the game, you must use it from your phone as far as I know. it seems like if you want to play the game on your tablet the only option I see is the QQ account. My only tip to you is to use Google Translate and start taking pictures of the text to Translate to get a better understanding on how to make the account to play the game on tablets.
