She had me fearing for the dog. I’m thinking to myself you are man handling the poor dog. But I realize you know exactly what you’re doing. I’m getting ready for my really first real and complete groom on my four month old standard all black poodle puppy. I tried grooming with my wife our first poodle and we really sucked at it. Then my wife passed away three years ago this coming December. And my best buddy bosco died on me last thanksgiving from bloat. I didn’t think I was gonna get another dog because how devastating it was. But it was so quiet I called the same breeder and lucked out. Now I figure after six months all the money I spent on the grooming gear will pay for it self by grooming him myself. I’ve been watching as much as I can to get ready, and I’m ready but just nervous. Thanks so much for sharing and helping us out here. Wouldn’t be doing it , if it wasn’t for you pros showing us your skills. ✌️👍🇺🇸

My pom had a very course undercoat and the blades wont even go through it so I have to use no blade and try to get it even by hand. I keep it about 1 inch long so i dont take it down to the skin.

I have a Pomeranian, watching you cut his hair I thought you very quite rough, & twisting his tail the way you did looked painful, & pulling his hair I thought you were quite rough, he didn't look happy, IV watched a few Pomeranian trimmers, they were much gentler than you. Don't think I would like you trimming my dog. You may be good cutting & shaving. But your a bit rough for my liking!

Always start grooming pets young! Nail clipping, baths, brushing their fur, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, and desensitzing to clippers and scissors should be done at a young age.

@pattywirth2518 How about use your brain and use a comb as a guard close to the skin and catch the hair with it, and then cut the hair above the comb to protect skin? Now scissors are not more dangerous than clippers anymore right? Yeah I get it... You just wanna tell people go to a groomer so you can drain their money... It's also better to shorten the matted hair with scissors before clipping so that your electric clipper's expensive blades don't get clogged and dull easily. You're welcome.

Great video! I have a high energy 3-year old F1B Labradoodle that most groomers don't have the patience to deal with. Been grooming her myself since she was 1--got tired of the incomplete cuts. We prefer the teddybear face with a short-cut body and a little longer hair the legs. Haven't been able to get the body and legs quite right though. We've got an Andis AGC2 clipper with 10 and 30 blades, and a set of Wahl stainless guide combs. Gonna look into some 3, 4, and 7 blades to see if they work any better than the combs though. Extremely helpful video. Thanks!

This is not a healthy pomeranian. My poms had great coats after being shaved for the hot summer. My poms had a wool undercoat and the finer, long fur on top. I did it every year for fifteen + years.

Thank you for taking the time to share this process and to give fair warning about the "squirt"...although I wouldn't have my face in the line of fire. 😀 Seriously, my pup has occasional issues with her anal glands and I would prefer to express them for her because I would be gentle. I had to use scissors to cut mats out of my cats when I was a kid. We always had animals but my parents didnt really take care of them. Dogs never got trained or walked. Cats were declawed. And no one ever got brushed. So i learned how to cut the bad mats out. I started from the top and slowly made my way down, cutting as little as possible and gently pulling the mats apart until I could get under them safely. I'm pretty sure it was torture for my cats, but I didn't know any better and just wanted to help them. This was the late 1990s and early 2000s before information was so easily available.

Wonderful videos. I try to cut my dogs hair but no matter what guard I use seems that I can't cut much. So I end up cutting her hair with scissors and the trim with the electric trimmer but never comes out good. Maybe the type of trimmer is not the best. Can you tell me what kind of trimmers you use?
