Respect sir i am following your art for one month since i noticed, and my question is how did you laying the paint on wet with vibrantly and what is secret of oil medium! Thank you
Thanks for your interest. Answers as follows: Laying on paint wet-on-wet depends on keeping previous layers thin enough also applying thicker paint on top. This leads on the purpose of oil medium which is to use more medium in the beginning to make the paint flow more easily and less or none later so ithe paint is applied more thickly. Another factor with laying paint down wet-on-wet is brush control - the angle at which the brush is applied - a low angle will allow more easily lay on successive layers even when wet.

I loved flowers and was a wedding consultant and floral designer. Drawing and painting them beautifully is a challenge! In fact oil painting is a challenge. Color is a challenge and great art that is mostly figurative is hard! People will eventually develop automatic approach after a lot of hours tons of hours…..then they get bored and want to change up I guess. I draw and paint and it’s work. A person must have discipline and strong work ethic to progress….not so much ‘talent” but that helps

Alex can you help me with something. I enjoy painting on wood, and for the time being have been ordering from Zecchi in Florence..I know pricey..but I love them…I live in Salzburg so shipping isn’t bad. They come primmed,,,, Should I want to make on my own, I believe the wood is Birch and I could go to hardware store to have cut. BUT, What is the best way to prepare the Panel for Gesso or primer….Im confused about the wood sealing process..any help???
Any primer, be it acrylic gesso, acrylic primer, or oil primer, works well on birch. For oil primer, there's no need to seal the wood with a size, unlike raw canvas, as wood doesn't rot like canvas would. With acrylic primers, this isn't a concern either. Depending on the thickness of the wood, you might encounter warping. To address this, prime thinly on both sides initially, let it dry, and then apply subsequent coats as necessary. Personally, I use oil primer and lightly sand between coats.
Just stumbled across this. I miss school and this felt like school to me (school was awesome for me as a painter), watching processing, seeing the thinking behind the way you are processing color and value and working from general to specific in a traditional manner. I learned a lot from this and have subscribed so I don’t miss any new demo’s. Thanks for sharing this. Much valued and much appreciated. Beautifully done.
