I just randomly bought a bottle of Sailor Jerry and was 50/50 on whether I like it or not. I would usually go for say Captain Morgan or a Baron Samedi for a dark spiced rum and honestly, I don't think I've tried any other (I'm a Scotch drinker usually) anyway, everything you said rang true when I smelled and tasted Sailor Jerry rum, but adding the water was somewhat an eye opener as it went from that alcohol burn to an actual decent sipper once watered down and yes 100% creaming soda came to mind. Now this does lower the ABV% to say 20% if you add half water, but I actually don't mind giving me a bigger drink to sip on when i want more of a straight alcoholic drink from a change up from a cola / soda mixer type of thing. I just pour a double / triple shot, throw in some ice cubes and a splash of water, and off I go. I think what i'm trying to say here is, mixing spirits with water is something I have never dabbled in and given much thought to trying, but I can see the positives be it for taste, or even health not reaching for sugary soda for a mixer, so for that I say "CHEERS MATE!" 😁👍

How much different are these compared to Rossville Union Brl Prf Rye? That is a 7yr MGP.. There is a 7yr 117.36P Tumblin Dice in a 700mL bottle for $35 here. Try to decide if I should grab 1.

Actually they are around five years or more on the single barrel barrel proofs That's why I believe the barrel. Proofs are the best tasting as far as fry ranch

Thanks for this useful comparison of two of my favorite whiskies! From a purely quantitative technical perspective, the Ardbeg is the 'better' whisky - higher ABV, and unlike Laphroaig it's not chill-filtered and has no caramel coloring added (which is why it looks lighter). It has a phenyl ppm of 55 vs Laphroaig's 45 ppm so it's quite a bit more peaty than Laphroaig (ppm measures the phenyls in the barley after the drying process). But it's the qualitative that counts! For me, Laphroaig is a pre-dinner sip, Ardbeg is for kicking back late in the evening.

For the price point I love double black. Such a great “every day” / sharing whisky.

I am a fan of the Juice Force IPA Voodoo Ranger beer, from New Belgium out of Asheville NC with 9.5 percent alcohol. Also some of the bourbons in the $21 to $37 price range, along with 90 proof Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey out of Louisville KY for $31 here.

How does adding a few drops of water change the flavor? It’s already 60% water and lots of water (or tea) was added to proof it down.

Buffalo Trace refuses to give the grain percentages. Too high and mighty to share the info. Also so others do not copy. It seems very silly, but so far there is no law. They do have to state where it is distilled. Bottled in bond adds more requirements.

Just picked up a bottle in pa. Did side by side with the newer beam 7 year. It blows it out of the water. The reserve is much more complex with a soft finish. If didn't know better it could pass for a wheated bourbon.

Wasn’t a fan of the bourbon I will try the wheat and rye I mean why not it’s pretty inexpensive for what it is. I’m not sure I’ll get the full proof either seeing how I wasn’t a fan of their regular juice. I am a huge fan of Bardstown though so maybe they will make some adjustments. Enjoy!!🥃🥃🥃

I will say BEAM is the trendsetter. Bringing back age statements. They are also making proof higher for the casual drinker. Breaking free of 80 proof land. This may be my Nog mixer this season

Interesting take. I just tried this last night. I tasted a hot spicy spearmint/peppermint up front, Caramel/malt mid fade, and the finish was more in line of a peach/honey dew melon/cantaloupe on the back end. Mouthfeel was also similar to eating a cantaloupe melon. Crazy good!

Risky move going 100% wheat I believe you need the rye or barley to give a bit of contrast even if it’s 2%. I like wheaters but they all have other grains which helps with flavor.
