Приєднався 28 тра 2016
Welcome to the official UA-cam channel of the Children's Advocacy Center of Kent County. Here you'll find videos from our team, including interns & volunteers, on the services provided at the CAC and how you can be an advocate for children in your community.
17th Annual Believe the Child Luncheon
Did you know the average age of disclosure for child sexual abuse is 52 years old? People should not have to wait most of their lives before getting support.
Children should be able to play hide and seek, not hide and secrets.
One month ago today, our President & CEO, Leah Ortiz, delivered a powerful testimonial about her own experience, highlighting that no child should have to live most of their life before getting the support they need.
"I was in my thirties before I sought the support I needed for the abuse I lived through. I felt like I was alone, but I am not," remarked Ortiz.
At the Children's Advocacy Center, we work as a multidisciplinary team, including prosecutors, law enforcement, CPS, sexual assault nurse examiners, forensic interviewers, therapists, advocates, and prevention educators, all working together to respond to and treat child sexual abuse victims.
Children who come to the Center arrive as victims and leave as survivors. They are not alone.
Statistics of child sexual abuse are scattered because disclosures may never happen or are delayed for many years.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to support this vital work, which is provided at no-cost to the children and families impacted.
We cannot do this alone. 💙

When children have been repeatedly abused mentally and physically, they are already more than minimized, reduced and dehumanized. Just a suggestion, calling them kiddos may not be the best term. These children need to know that they are an individual and exist with a voice. At the beginning of this video, I thought this young woman was a teen child about to speak on her own experience. Children need genuinely strong and protective champions that fully acknowledge each child as an individual, and as a whole and fully human being that has a right to take up space and speak. Many of these children never get past the abuse that is done to them in childhood, often by those who should have loved and cherished them most. I wish I could convey the level of disorientation and powerlessness these children experience. They have been given no foundation in reality and what is right and how they deserve to be cared for and treated.
Thank you for your comment. This is really a video for adults, parents, and caregivers to view prior to a potential court date. We typically don't use the term kiddos with the child. We will typically call them by name, use their chosen pronouns, etc., as we do recognize that they are an individual and they are working to reclaim their youth. Our therapists are well-versed and trained in working with children and do everything they can to help them reclaim their childhood and feel safe to share their stories.
9:32 tears in my eyes as the brave little girl in the yellow dress led the way for what is now CAC… if all children could be that brave😂
Amazing video! First, thank you to the girl in the yellow dress for being bold enough to come forward. Her boldness paved the way for a great resource and thank you to Chief Hegarty for taking action. He was a great Chief for Grand Rapids.
This is EXCELLENT!!!! I learned about ACEs a few years ago but it was only today that I learned about BCEs. Then in researching BCEs, this was one of my favorite, most powerful finds!! Of course, most know some general info about happy and unhappy childhood experiences , but Lindsay's brief, very clear and easy-to-grasp approach in explaining about ACEs and BCEs, is very powerful. Thank you for making and sharing this!!!
Thank you this realy helped my sister
Could I have the link or a french version of the presentation?
Please reach out to our Prevention Program Manager, Andrea, for more information about the program. awoller@cac-kent.org
Thank you sir
Thank you for having the courage to listen to, believe, report, protect and work to repair the damage that happened to your children! Your voice of bravery is much needed in our world.
