Thank you learnt so much, first time I heard of Hong Kong currency devaluation in the 1966~1967, and that our light industry driven out some uk local. Time to time I’d also imagine what world it would be if British pickup china instead of India, maybe American isn’t a thing now, or maybe British got colonised from far end continent again. 😂

Thanks for the information. She can tell the bank teller that if one was born in HK then one automatically become a British Subject. If one is a British Subject you can come and go into UK as you wish till about the early seventies then UK put a restriction on Hong Kong residents that they are subjected to UK Immigration law that means from then on HK people will need a visa to go to UK.

Darling, you are completely off the mark. Back in the 1930s, the British political culture was very different. That was a period when working class people were still struggling with their employment right and it wasn't that long ago since women were given the right to vote and to be MP. There was no universal health care like the NHS then. Like any societies, it took time and through various global and domestic events to legislate new laws as well as change in public opinion. The UK is a progressive society and has become more liberal over the years, especially since the mid 1980s but also like every other societies, there are bias and prejudice embedded in its culture. Brexit in 2016 unfortunately reignited some of these prejudice but all in all, British society is open, liberal, democratic and tolerable comparing to many other countries even in Europe. You can't really judge the attitude, culture and belief of the 1930s with modern eyes !

但我在香港八十年代嘅Hong Kong Passport 內頁個人資料係寫明，持證人係英國屬土公民，自83年後護照就改咗字眼， 本身香港人在97前在香港出生本應就係英藉，尤其1983年前出生嘅一批，83年前未改國籍法。
