Installing buttons using the laser and foot number 18 is a breeze! Bernina 790 PRO
Foot 18 holds the button from moving. The laser ensures the needle will go into the button hole and not strike the button itself. Having all the information on the screen and visible is so helpful when aligning the button to get it sewn. Remember to not use the scissors and use the long thread tails to form the post of the button at the end.

Automatic Buttonhole - without even measuring the button! Bernina B790 PRO
Переглядів 1163 місяці тому
With the automatic buttonhole, the length is determined by clicking the "i" and then the icon for length. A yellow circle appears, and you can then place the button on the circle and adjust the size with the knobs until the circle matches the button size.
I can use my 5mm presser feet on 9mm sewing machine. Kind of. Bernina 790 PRO

Bernina has been making presser feet for years and they work interchangeably with different models. There are some limitations on using 5mm feet on 9mm machines due to the width of the feed dogs. Having a 5mm plate would help, but only in making the needle hole a bit smaller, and not with the surface area contact with the feed dogs.
Turning ON your machine takes time. Bernina B790 PRO

The machine takes about forty seconds to fully boot up. Be patient and don't get scared!
Why doesn't my presser foot go all the way down?! Bernina 790 PRO

I have learned that the new Bernina machines don't uave a hand lever to lower the presser foot and instead use the foot up/down button. However, the foot stays a bit up before you start sewing.
The stars are not your favorite feet! Bernina 790 PRO

When I saw tutorials on the machine, I kept seeing small stars on the individual presser feet. For some reason I associated the star with something being a "favorite". Well, not for Bernina presser feet; the stars mean that those feet are recommended for the specific stitch.

Ensuring your stiches don't unravel is very important when sewing. I have found several options to do this on my sewing machine.

Thank you for sharing that. I was hoping I could mark my favourite feet or the feet that I own, then only see those when selecting a foot. Shame that you can't, but now I'll stop wasting time looking. 😂
Phenomenal tutorial! I can't WAIT to try this! Thank you so much for the thorough and thoughtful information. Did you use a special foot? Also, I don't think my serger has a knee lift, do you have any other recommendations on where to place the wire?
I'm glad you found it helpful.😊 No, I did not use a special foot. That's the foot that came with the machine. To hold the spool, I would recommend any holder that allows the finishing line to spin freely, could even be something as simple as the straw of a tumbler. Wish you the best when you try it, and I hope your project comes out wonderful!
Thank you for taking the time to share. Great video.
Thank you!! I was having this same issue and thought something was wrong with my machine. So frustrating! I’m so glad you solved the issue.
Great info.
Bernina's feed gods on 9mm machines are very bad. The feeding is very uneven, especially if sewing on the edge, resulting in a horrible-looking stitches. I don't understand why Bernina can not make the feed dogs as they are made on other (like, for example, PFAFF) machine, where the central part before foot also has the feeding. Bernina did not address this issue on their new flagship 990 either. All those narrower speciality feet are pretty much useless (they "kind" of do the job, but with the uneven stitching). The 5mm or single hole plate do not make any difference. Very dissapointed.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much.
Please keep doing more videos you are so great at this 🥰
Thank you so much you’re amazing this helped a lot 🥰
How would you do this with 2 ends that aren’t being sewn together???
I would probably make sure the fishing line is buried into a seam. If possible, perhaps burn the end a bit to melt it into the project.
