After all these years, Quake remains the cream of the crop when it comes to the FPS genre as it demands the highest caliber of skill to play and win.
That being said, the game does not follow the tried and true formula for driving growth: easy to learn, hard to master.
Quake is hard to learn and even harder to master.
However this does not mean that the game isn't interesting for beginners. With a proper introduction, Quake can become anyone's go-to game for casual enjoyment or serious commitment.
That's why I love to use Quake as a medium for demonstrating ideas and concepts related to gaming. Ranging from hardware to the theoretical. If you're a beginning, I hope to help you understand the game, how to play it, how to win at it, and most of all, how to enjoy it.

when we get a gaming router do we need to also get a gaming modem as well? Like i dont understand how that works
It's a good question. With some ISPs you can use your own router as the modem, others will make you use their provided modem and then you would have to bridge your router to it. The ISP in this video allowed me to use this router as the modem no problem. I've since moved cities and now I have to use the ISP-provided router and bridge the Netgear to it.
@@evmadic So my ISP (spectrum) provides the router and modem separately. Do you think i wont reap any benefits of the gaming router if i dont change the modem as well?.... And as you were saying could i call them and ask to make my router BOTH in 1 or is that a router feature. All of this is so confusing
I think this character would make for some phenomenal play by pros! Perhaps the devs could be persuaded to add him as the QC swan song. Or, we remake QC in Q3... ;-]

I really like the ideas you have for this map especially with the stairs up at that two timeshard point connecting to the reopened area behind shotgun jump pad. Ruins is one of the most boring maps to play in duels and this alone would give it some more variations in gameplay. Would love to see some of the mentioned changes of you but we all know this won't happen.
tbh no one wants to spend hours or days bunnyhoppying through empty maps just to be an entry level player. they ought to just get rid of the bunny hopping speed boost once and for all, put everyones special ability on a basic universal timer, and add in eternals double jumps, dashes, and grapple hook. wow suddenly the game is fun for the majority of people.
the game is already overly complex, hence why kids are playing epics game instead.
Did you know that Xaero does not shoot at you when you have command/chat console opened?
Good stuff, I was thinking taking screenshots and add some drawing overlay on top of it, or overlay your suggestions of new brushwork into the video for better readability of your suggestions.
Leave my favorite map alone. Its best in the game.
I fully agree with you on these ideas. the changes you are suggesting cever almost exactly with my thoughts on this map. it just feels to constricted to be fully enjoyable.

2:57 it's bullshit, this command just clear value of "useplatformclock"! You set it to Yes it will use platformclock (if hpet is enabled in bios) and You will have huge stutters because it's using HPET only. If You will disable HPET in bios and set useplatformclock as YES - IT WILL USE WHOLE DIFFERENT TIMER THAT IS AVAILIBLE AFTER HPET. THIS COMMAND IS A SWITCH BETWEEN DIFFERENT TIMERS BASED ON AVAILIBILITY ONLY correct way is to disable it through bios, sometimes You have to do it through GRUB with exported bios commands.
Xaero is such an awesomely designed character, he'd sure feel awesome to have in QC.

I wholeheartedly agree, despite me being too noob of a player to actually use these changes to their fullest potential (here's to my weak RG aim)! I always felt there was something off with the flow of RoS in general, and when you began to describe the stuff around the Tribolt room it just clicked with me immediately. Excellent video man, straight to the point and very well-explained!

Considering you yourself constitue for 30% of this game's playerbase, you can find or 2 more players agreeing with you... now you have an overwhelming majority vote. All is left is contacting ID TECH and asking them to change the map :D

but still on Sarnath the Heavy is to close with Mega, and you like to change them to be easer to access from one side, I know there is a level or 2 higher to get access from one to another but I believe they should be more spread on the map horizontally, mega on place of RL and heavy switch with LG on the higher area near wall The RAIL is in wrong place agrre, RL like you suggest move ok, but the map still missing items it feels like now

Agreed on everything you said. Also maybe rail should do 80 dmg, and HMG should just keep it's 100% accuracy when zoomed in which is already massive and remove the DPS buff. Maps are also filled with weapon and player clip randomness which makes plasma climbing very random unless you test every centimiters of every wall and train on it (weapon clip is an invisible wall that block the weapon shots, player clip is colison clipping).

Sorry to hear that, the game's lag compensation isn't bad. If you're determined, you can queue in other regions with higher ping and still have a decent experience

I am waaaaay to nooby to understand your point of view but it all sounds like You put a lot of effort into preparing this video.
"Move RG to Tribolt" - Arg: RG is most oppressive weapon. Its spawn is critical to map balance. If in easily blocked areas, the entire map can become untraversable (e.g. old-Insomnia). - imo, this change would drastically break flow, and slow map even more than it is. - The huge LoS areas (top-mid, bottom-mid, new-tribolt-opening) opponent is now forced to take, prevents easy movement & pickup. The strength of this would be the primary strat every game -> deny rail. And bc major items are on top of each other, you'd barely have to move. This blocks >70% of map. Also there's no defense against it bc railer has cover, and opponent has to be in open to pickup. Not to mention the current vulnerability of forced spawns on Sarnath. - If rail is on end-of-map, that's also extra time spent collecting trinity (on already big map). - imo, current center-rail (and trinity) are already in the best spots. Nice thing about center-rail is quck & easy pickup on spawn, and gives you options to move out on map....HMG can use a different placement tho. "Heavy Armor Area too strong defensively" - Arg: Agree this could be reworked. But adding more TP/Pads/Chokes - which are inherently defensive - will create even stronger +B bc of additional risk taking each one. Opening or eliminating those elements would be better. - The reason this area is defensively strong is bc of risks to Attacker: risk exiting TP, risk top-1st-pad, risk dropping, risk reaching bottom, risk fighting at bottom - then new risks - @ bottom-2nd-newPad, risk @ taking 2nd-newPad, risk @ top-2nd-newPad. This would be a 1-frag-gg layout :o - The trickjump suggestion could work, but eg of Deep Embrace box-jump works bc you know you're safe (enemy on ground). But in +B scenario, rampjumps become liabilities (easy LG pin). - Suggestion: Keep stairs, but just have it || or L, instead of U-shape choke. This opens it up, and gives better play from coming from MH. Also as sidenote, I think it would be better if the Eye-Pad to RL was on ground-level instead of mid-level. Would make more interesting skirmishes fighting around MH, and improve flow horizontally and vertically. Ground-to-top interplay is lackluster as is -> At most, wait to fire 1 rocket on pickup, for 4dmg, and run :/ "Tribolt Area too strong defensively" - 1 area to camp out-of-ctrl seems ok to me. - and please, no more ring outs. We have plenty of areas to drown in the current pool. QC is starting to feel like a sidescroller. 👍for your design discussions.
Its cool you guys are still discussing changes related to vanilla duel specifically. For those that cannot time/camp major items, duel has been gate kept by that aspect forever now, I'd stil like to see a couple other Duel modes added, namely, Instagib as it has a long history of being a top gamemode for duels in Quake 3 arena, usually on dm17. Another duel mode that would make sense is Clan Arena, as you have absolute balance (aside from champion ability imbalances that are still rampant, athena) both of those modes would be more accessible to other players especially ones that cant mentally time major items and control the map that way, some players like myself have this problem, a non map-control duel mode would be pivotal to us being able to finally enjoy duels. These changes to Ruins might be great, I dont really know as I dont get to play duel due to the item timed camping/hoarding, and the weapon changes would affect the duel modes I've suggested as you spawn with the same weapons every spawn, which to me makes the game more balanced and fair, partly why I played Excessiveplus and Instaunlagged for 20 years or so and couldnt stand vanilla Quake Live when it came out.
