@@leeah8419 Thanks for being honest again. The film is no less complex than the book. Harold Pinter, the famous British playwright, split Sarah’s character right down the middle to create the Victorian Sarah Woodruff and the modern star Ms Ruffwood. Mark the play with the surnames which sets the tone to visually narrate the psychological drama of Fowles. Not many would have the insight into the film medium to truly appreciate the movie.

I haven't read anything by Colleen Hoover yet but I have It Ends With Us on my Goodreads TBR. Maybe it's time to give one of her books a go. I've been meaning to read thrillers at some point soon and Verity might just be the perfect candidate! Thanks for the rec! 😊

@@leeah8419 this is the only thriller book she wrote, and it was good. I have read it ends with us and liked it too. The only complain i had with it ends with us that the girl fell in love with the guy too easily. Unless its just me who needs actual conversations to fall in love with someone lol

Sounds like Verity would be the best starting point for me! I don't like books in which the characters fall in love from one moment to another either 😊

Yes to sometimes a bunch of romances! 😁 like a periodic fix! They take me back to my early 20s when I used to read a lot more of them 😊 I would be curious to see what you think of Borges! He's such a complex author 😊

Romance is like that, I read a few of them back to back in Dec/Jan and I was mostly let down, especially by the most popular ones, like Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation. So I'm pausing on romance books for a while, otherwise I was also considering Get a Life Chloe Brown

@@leeah8419 the only romance book i liked was “one to watch” but that’s about it. But i agree, most romance books seem to be cringy and the characters seem to fall in love without having any real reasons to fall in love. I like the books you review/like cause they actually have meaningful stories and experiences.

Romances are good when I'm in the mood for something light and easy, which I need if I read a lot of heavier books. But yeah, nothing compares to a well written book about stories that feel real 😊

This has been a goal of mine for some years now but I think 2021 was the year when I nailed it. I thought I read pretty diversely also prior to 2021 but not according to my 2020 stats. At least not when it comes to countries. Are you doing stats this year?

@@leeah8419 Yes, I'm doing stats! They should be up tomorrow. I forgot to include my numbers on international reading, though! I ended up reading 22% non-US/UK/Canadian books.

I am still 8 books behind but I was surprised that it's not more. Overall the project slowed my reading but I discovered so many good books. I don't have so much time either but classics are worth it. 😊

@@leeah8419 The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson was my most recent fiction 5- start read. I also read a lot more non- fiction this year. Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann also excellent. Also I really liked Greenwood by Michael Christie.

@@leeah8419 house of spirits is good if you like magical realism. I also like Paula, but that is more of a sort of memoir of when allendes daughter died

@@leeah8419 Not yet, the one's I've read have been 3 or 4 stars, but I have quite a few on my list that I hope to get to next year. The Nesting Dolls by Alina Adams was relatable to me in some aspects since my parents immigrated to the US in 1989 from Ukraine. I found some similarities and enjoyed that story.

Yea, and there are so many written this way! I just can't connect to the story nor the characters when there's a dual timeline. Every time I'm starting to get immersed I'm yanked out and by the time I settle into the other timeline it happens all over again...oh well.. I'm happy it's not just me who feels this way! 😊

You did! 😁 Yes, I think that maybe the authors feel like speeding up the pace as well...I don't know but now I also realize that blending genres is not my thing either 😂 This is the time for revelations! I ended up loving Atonement despite the slow start and now I kind of want to read everything the author wrote. Now that I am about to finish with Ishiguro's novels, I need another 'author project'. I just hope that it doesn't go downhill with Ian McEwan like it more or less did with Ishiguro...oops!

Wow...sounds like quite the book! How long is it? Somehow I feel like it's long. I've never heard of such a story before but I think that this might actually work because of the clear connection between the characters and the plot.

Hi Laurie, I normally don't read books set in the season we're in either, but this year I just seem to be in the mood to read them. Or maybe it's the influence of Booktube 😊 I hope it will go well with reading my own books. I attempted to do this before but maybe 2022 will be the year for me...basically something has to happen as I now have way too many unread ones on my shelves.
