You're absolutely right about the gain being particularly sensitive. I tend to find that that's generally the case with Boss amp modellers but not with other brands that I've tried. Another thing to get the hang of, although you may well have already noticed this by now is that generally with the majority of moddelers from any brand, the treble control can be a bit tricky too. Go easy on the high end or you'll start to get some fizzy sounding frequencies coming through. In fact, I find that if you have a graphic EQ at hand then setting up a filter to cut some of those very high frequencies can really tame your overall sound and make it a lot more natural sounding. But if you don't already have one then maybe try doing it in a DAW before going out to spend more money. But you seem to know what you're doing already so you probably knew that you could do that without me telling you.

If you put some heavier strings on this guitar, drop it to C, I guess you are more then good to go for some heavy QOTSA sounds! ;-) Also the SD mini HB in the bridge position you have, makes a vast difference soundwise as it has a much wider frequency range then the stock Wilkinson Pu's, which tend to be a tad darker. If your Modena came with this pricy upgrade, it's quiet a score imho.

I've had one of these for a few years and I love it. A well constructed, very playable 12 string and all for under a grand. Excellent craftsmanship, finish. A built in compressor & boost AND a 12 string saddle! Full disclosure: I did modify the chrome plate with the lights. Too bright. I just cut a plexiglass oval, painted it and the lighst aren't nearly as distracting. Seriously, if you see one of these, grab it. And God bless Jeff, wonderful musician who will be missed.
