I totally agree, nothing fancy about it. I am not judging at all, women are beautiful and they can do whatever they want with their hair. Seems flat though. Can you put naturals products in relaxed hair? Not sure.

It really comes down to preference with any form of hairstyle or texture. I personally enjoy it more when I’d like to take a break from my natural hair as it can be quite a tedious process to get ready in the morning or to even get it in to a simple style such as a ponytail.

Then go be her hairstylist so thats one less this she has to worry about.

The boards were left over pvc ceiling boards, you could opt to use ply wood or recycled wooden pallets. Hope this helps.

I have heard lots of horror stories about african hairdressers so it's no wonder she did it herself. I'm gona do my own too because hairdressers here in Jamaica aren't much better.

This is so true. Except where I live there aren’t a lot of professional hair stylists that offer this service at a reasonable price. The ones I could actually go to usually cost an arm and a leg. I’ve had the privilege of getting my hair treated by a professional on special occasions, and because I’m very inquisitive I got to pick up a few pointers for when I DIY coupled with my track record of doing my hair from grade school got me where I am now.

@@swisdom9117 the horror stories are endless and I’m so glad I’ve only ever heard of them and not witnessed them myself, probably one of the reasons why I chose to DIY where I can.

@@diyhomeprojectssouthafrica6916 facts! What relaxer do you use tho? Do you ever burn? Do you use a scalp base? My mom refuses to help me do mine so I'm gonna have to do it on my own. I has d an appointment with a hair stylist but I asked her if she is gonna apply my virgin relaxer from the roots or ends of the hair (because I burn easily) and she said all hair must start from the root, even natural. I said nope and cancelled right away. I will be responsible for the outcome of my hair. The last time I let an amateur do it I lost all my bsl hair. Sigh

@@swisdom9117 I have used dark&lovely, sof’n’free and revlon but after trying the ORS I’m sold on it. Not that the other ones were the worst or anything like that but I found that my hair remains straightened for longer with the ORS and much healthier looking. With regards to getting my scalped burnt I have experienced that and it was caused by relaxing my hair immediately after taking braids down or not basing my scalp. So to relax my hair immediately after braiding I make sure to apply some conditioning spray the night before(sort of like pre-pooing) this has definitely made sure I don’t get any irritation during and after the process. I always,always make sure to base my scalp even though I only apply the relaxer to my scalp last.

Hey Diamond, I think no more than 15-20 mins. The instructions are on the boxes given the kind you get. I got the “coarse” option because my hair is more dense and thick in it’s natural state. Hope this helps 😉

Hey mommy. Thank you so for the lovely compliments. The plastic is for when I condition my hair, it helps to trap heat from the scalp which in turn helps open up the hair follicles to allow the conditioner to penetrate them and "condition" (strengthen) the hair. Straightening your hair a lot and passing the straightener more than once on each section does weaken the hair and could in turn make it prone to damage. I personally only straighten it after I've conditioned it cause my hair is much stronger and can handle the heat with a low chance of causing serious damage. Using a heat protectant before straightening your hair will help reduce the damage caused over time. 🤗😍
