Making Winter Birch Soap with Black Sea Salt & Mixing Fragrance Oils
Today I’m making Winter Birch Soap - a mix of Fireside, Crackling Birch, and Roasted Pinecone make this soap a winter favorite.
Recipe below.
***Test batching: I recommend doing a test batch if you're using a new recipe, fragrance oil, or special additives. You don't want to ruin a large batch if things don't go as planned! This is my test batch size. You can adjust yours to suit your needs.

Recipe:
Lard 70%
Coconut Oil 25%
Castor Oil 5%
SF: 5%
Water: I'm using a 1.5:1 Water to Lye Ratio
Additives:
I added Sea Salt to my Lye/Water solution before pouring into oils.
I added Black Sea Salt to half of my batter. This is salt with added activated charcoal. You can find it at Wholesales Supplies Plus.
I soaped this batch at 90 degrees F
I forced gel for this batch in the oven. Preheat oven to 170F turn off and then put soap in. I only left it in for about an hour.
I was able to cut a few hours later.
*****IMPORTANT: Please run this recipe through a soap calculator for your batch size. This will give you your water/lye ratio once you input your desired ratio and batch size. You can also adjust your hard to soft oil ratio to meet your preferences. ***
Fragrance: Midwest Fragrance - Roasted Pinecone & Crackling Birch (this combination accelerates as you can see in the video- so work fast :)
Crafters Choice: Fireside
I only used fireside for all batter and then added the others to only the batter with salt since this fragrance discolors.
Colors: TD & Black Sea Salt
Mad Micas: Zero Gravity added to black salt for a deeper black and added sparkle.

Today I’m making Pineapple Sage Sea Salt Soap. A wonderful soap recipe that saves money on oils and yields more soap due to the added volume of salt. Today I'm making Taro Milk Tea Boba Soap. I used a previously untested fragrance oil (for me) and also added taro tea powder just to test the results and to add enhanced lather. The Boba holes were made using a round metal file while the soap was soft enough to punch through. I then used Melt and Pour soap to fill the holes. Afterwards I planed the soap to be smooth again. Making Orange Cranberry Spice Soap: Kaleidoscope Design Technique - With Recipe

Today I'm making Orange Cranberry Spice Soap for the Holidays using my kaleidoscope tools. I’m still learning this method and continue to learn what works best. This time I poured quickly because I had two molds to alternate filling. The batter for the first mold was slightly too fluid and the second was perfect. The trick is to use squeeze bottles with long spouts to get down in the mold so yo...

Today I'm making Home on the Ranch Soap using Goat Milk Powder. This method takes away the struggle with fresh milk worries of scorching. Inspired by the vistas of Ranch Life (At least my dream of it). Goat milk contributes to a nourishing and gentle lather in soap. Kaleidoscope Soap Making - Peppercorn Pomander for the Holidays

Today I am making Peppercorn Pomander Soap using Kaleidoscope Soap Embeds. Full recipe below. Lessons learned: I didn’t calculate my white batter correctly and had to quickly make more. I wish I had put the quarter kaleidoscope embed on the bottom. It looks a bit awkward floating towards the top. I used my leftover batter in a second column mold for extra embeds. As for the kaleidoscope design…...

So cool
How much black sea salt are you adding?
I added 4 tablespoons along with a hefty teaspoon of the added mica. My batch was 2300grams. I added that to half my batter.
The water is stunning, can I ask what colors you used please?
I believe Crazy Eyes, Preppy Blue and Bermuda Triangle from Mad Micas. Cocoa Powder for sand and TD for white. ❤
@@Hudsonvalleysoapery Thank you so much!!!
Salt adds volume to your batter. This recipe was only calculated for my 5lb soap mold but yields an extra 2.6lb of soap. This helps when oils such as olive and butters such as cocoa are currently too expensive to use. Read the full description for my full recipe. You won’t be disappointed.
Love the punch nail file technique. Very smart. Can you provide a link for it? Also, love your logo. Do you have any rabbits? I ask because, I do as well. I love your videos. I feel like we have some things in common. Rabbits, soap making and my entire family lives in the Hudson Valley. I love it there. Plan to move back there in the next 5 years.
@@AMusingFarms Hi. I actually don’t have rabbits but I’ve collected all things rabbit my entire adult life (50 now). Where about in HV are you from? I’m in Milton/Marlboro. Thanks so much for watching. The tool is from my husbands toolbox LOL 😂 But similar to this one: a.co/d/0pjAF3t

Hi - It’s a tool from Folk Art found at Michael’s. It’s sold for acrylic pouring.

Gorgeous ❣️❣️❣️
Nice! Thank you for sharing!
I feel really dumb! 🤣 What is “ASMR” and what do you do with all of the flakes?
@@dianehedricks7860 haha It’s a sensory type video on UA-cam. Some are sound related like whispering and some are sound and visual like cutting soap 🧼 Auditory: Whispering, low volume sounds, fingernail tapping, crinkling sounds, or the sound of someone eating food Visual: Seeing someone's gentle movements, kind facial expressions, or watching them do something like unbox an item or play with kinetic sand Tactile: Lightly touching someone's hair, hand, arm, or back We will use the flakes here and there. It was mainly for the experience.
@@Hudsonvalleysoapery ohhhhhh! Thank you so much for explaining that SO WELL! It is much appreciated!!!
