    I can't get the bags to keep a seal for more than three days in the refrigerator. And I got the better bags. Both won't keep a seal. It's so disappointing. It ruined all my kale because when the air came in, so did the condensation, making it wet and soggy. I'm currently trying to dry it all out, but I don't think it's going to work.

    • @homeright

      For us, we notice sealing issues seem to occur on bags that we have used a lot. Also when we first got them, I was not always completely zip locking the top and found that I needed to rezip and make sure it was closed. We find them to be working well, but I have read some of their product reviews that share similar issues like you mentioned. Thank you for your feedback

    3:47 that's really strange, i have the same veikous greenhouse and my oldest one, a 6x8 that's on year 4 has eaves that cover that area after you put the panels in. I just bought 2 more 8x20 because i was so impressed how well that cheap little greenhouse has performed. Even with all the modifications, those are things that have to be done in most of the more expensive greenhouses as well that aren't part of the unit cost so i definitely think these are worth it if you take the time to assemble them well and do the extras to secure it and deal with ventilation etc. Just revisiting videos like yours to see if i forgot any good ideas before we assemble the new units.

    • @homeright
      @homeright 19 днів тому

      That's interesting to hear the older models had that. Please let me know when the new ones arrive if eaves are included. I debated on putting up a gutter system that I could incorporate a way to protect that area, but have not gotten around to that. In either case, it has held up well. Please let me know how the extra width from 6 to 8 feet works out. That is something I wish I had done to give a little more space. Thanks so much for watching

    I'm part of research scientist in Laguna Agri here in the Phil. Just don't put fertilizer on sweet potatoes. You end up just hairy roots. Farmers here grow sweet potatoes along sandy areas and the yields is good. Sweet potatoes produce well on poor soil. If you give fertilizer on them all you see are green healthy leaves but came harvest time all yer got mostly are fat healthy roots with small tubers. I can't speak English well, but you can check The Millenial Gardener UA-cam, he can break it to yer well. Good day man and madam.

      I have been seeing a lot about staying away from any fertilizers and poor soil. This is the first year with a few different varieties, but soil and organic fertilizer was the same as it has been for the past few years with good success. Also curious as to why okinawan variety did much worse than the others under the same conditions. Will try again next year without any fertilizer. Thanks for watching

    Hey- few questions for you all. Love the vids. 1) do you have a weed barrier underneath the mulch you have down for the walking areas? 2) do you all have a tractor or did you build the beds out by hand? 3) did you design the garden from the first or did you just have a few beds and it morphed into this long term? 4) how do you get your jalapeno plants so big? I have two and they haven’t exceeded 2ft tall. Do you leave the roots in and just cut back the stalk? I’ve replanted 6in plants each year 5) do you start everything from seeds? So far I haven’t ventured into starting from seeds but it seems like the most economical approach?

    • @homeright
      @homeright 2 місяці тому

      Thanks so much for watching. 1- We put a layer of cardboard down beneath the mulch. We get a few weeds, but very little. The mulch thickness was about 5 inches to start, and then we just top dress each year. 2- Wish we had a tractor. Everything done by hand and pushing wheel barrels. 3- Garden design is probably our biggest flaw. At first we just wanted a small garden and when we planned it out late fall, the sun was best in the first area we made, which was 4 raised beds. Our love for gardening and desire for fruit trees, berries, etc created the expansion. We moved fence lines, water lines, and beds. A lot more work than if I had a solid plan, but enjoying the journey. Even this year, we will be replacing wood beds with metal ones and adding more fruit trees. 4- Our jalapeno's are new plants from seed each year. 5- 99% of our plants are from seed. Initial investment for seed trays, lights and racks were higher than buying plants from the nursery, but we now save a ton starting from seed. Also starting from seed allows us to buy different varieties and more disease resistant plants that work better in our growing zone. Thanks again for watching and hope these answers were of help

      @@homeright Awesome, thanks for all the responses! I just have 4 raised beds (here in atlanta) that i planted this past late-spring. it was my first time gardening, and given my preference for fruit over veggies, i mainly tried to grow easy fruit. that is actually how i found your channel - from the navaho blackberry video. I got that from my nursery and it yielded me a few cups of blue berries this first year. Very cool to hear about the seeds, i think that i will dive into that this year. i am not in a pinch for money so its no problem for me to buy plants at the store, but i think seeds would just make more sense and are the natural next step for me here. I went through your video and saw you have quite a few, so i will spend time watching those. Last question: Do you have a preferred place you buy seeds from? and how have you all learned all your garden knowledge? books or just the internet?

    • @homeright
      @homeright 2 місяці тому

      Seeds are from a variety of places, pending on what were looking for. Some main suppliers are Hoss, jung seed, and true leaf for specific varieties. Basic ones are purchased at either seed geeks or at big box stores. We also harvest seeds from some of the flowers and vegetables we grow to use the following year. We are constantly learning as we go. Many things were trial and error in the beginning, but we have found what works for us in our environment. The internet, mostly youtube, has been a great source for us. Feel free to reach out to us with any further questions.

    would you recommend using insulation for colder regions, for the floor platform and all lower walls?

      @homeright 3 місяці тому

      Thanks so much for watching. I have seen people use greenhouse bubble insulation, and seem to be happy with the results. As far as the floor, maybe try red bricks or pavers. They will heat up with the sun during the day

    So many of those are not ripe, meaning in large quantities they are toxic and can cause stomach upset.

    Those don't even look ripe. Wouldn't they be sweeter raisins if you let them ripen more? I've my harvested cherries sitting in a box in a cool space and they get sweeter every day.

    • @homeright
      @homeright 4 місяці тому

      I agree some are more ripe than others. We keep them on the counter and over the course of a week some are sweeter than others. We will batch dehydrate once the bowl is full. Pending the season, that can be anywhere from 2 days to over a week. As raisins, we find all levels of ripeness create a very sweet taste, but when eating them fresh, there is a huge difference in the taste between fully ripe and still slightly green. Thanks so much for watching

    Many thanks for the demo! Do you adjust the shelf maximum temperature or times when doing basil? tip: Basils turn black from an enzyme. To preserve color when adding to recipes, add the dried/freeze dried basil to very hot, simmering sauces, etc. Heat denatures the enzymes,

    • @homeright
      @homeright 4 місяці тому

      Hi, thanks for sharing the tip. We do not need to adjust the temperature or times in the freeze dryer. Before we load the trays of basil, the freeze dryer takes 15 minutes to start the freezing process in the chamber, and then we load the trays with the fresh basil. Our basil has never turned black from using the freeze dryer. The basil has always maintained a nice color, it maintains a better color then when we used a dehydrator. We have experienced the basil turning black when we make our basil tea, if you do not cover the basil completely with the hot water (immediately)...those leaves turn black.

    Hello. New subscriber here enjoying your channel. I use the Barinna lights to start my seeds. I continually have a problem with my brassicas. They all seem to sprout really well but later on all slowly die. Not a soil or watering issue. The only thing left are the lights. Could it be that my lights are too close to the new seedlings? Discouraged. Thank you for feedback and recommendations.

      @homeright 4 місяці тому

      Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. Greatly appreciated. Our struggle with brassicas is that we have to allow about 2-3 more weeks of indoor growth over what the seed packets suggest. We keep our lights about 2-3 inches away from the plants ( closer to 2" when they first start to keep them from getting leggy). These lights are on for about 12-14 hours/day. Since you have eliminated it being a soil or water issue, my only other thought would be temperature being too warm. Also not sure what your humidity levels are. Ours fluctuate pending the season, but typically around 45%. Final thought might be to add a small fan to the young plants just to move air around.
