How does IVF with egg donation in Toronto, Canada compare to the UK?
Переглядів 1614 годин тому
“In the UK, one of the most frustrating parts for patients is a significant lack of egg donors - whereas access in Toronto, Canada is much easier. Another big difference I've seen is the positive impact of using PGT-A. It’s used vastly in clinics here, and I see the difference that it makes in pregnancy outcomes, however, it's not a technology that’s commonly employed in the NHS. .” If you’re j...

    I'm considering getting pregnant with donor sperm as a single mom by choice. My husband passed away suddenly over a year ago about a month before we were going to try for more children. He was only 37 years old. I'm now a widow and a single mom- and like this caller I don't want nor feel I have the time to find a suitable new partner. I'm not dating and don't have a desire to. But I'd like to continue growing our family as my husband and I were planning to do. My youngest is 2 and this would be a good time for the age difference also. So I'm saving and planning to get pregnant as a single mom by choice - hopefully in a couple months now. And I've really studied all the research- it's fathers who abandon their failures resulting in an abandoned child and poverty that causes unhealthy consequences for the child. But Children who lose their parent through passing or who were conceived by a donor (and the mother was honest with their child and the donor is not anonymous so they do have the choice to contact him as an adult if they want) do very well in life raised in a loving single mother home.

    I dont understand why mothers that have egg donation just accept that child can get look from them. Let me explain, the kid is created combining two sets of genes at the end the child will have around 20,000 genes. WHAT will be active and turn on depends also from various epigenetic influences in uterus, some of the genes WILL be activated only in certain mother uterus but not in another women uterus. And influence of epigenetics to donor eggs are just starting to be researched. So when someone say "Maybe this kid got this from you." answer should be "Maybe".

    I recently went thru a termination for medical reasons due to Edward´s Syndrome and I feel awful, sadly I had to go thru al the process on my own. I have ADHD and also depression. All the process put me on a masive depresive episode (I think is the hardest one I ever experience). I´m from Mexico and I never thought my baby would be that 1 in 6,000 babys that suffer Edward´s Syndrome. It´s been two months since the procedure and I´m still struggling with the fact that I was a mom, because people don´t recognize you as a parent just because your baby it´s not alive. I´m sorry that this happen to you. I understand how you felt at that moment and I hope you got lucky with the IVF.

    I won't tell anybody,not even the child/children who where conceived. In the end it's your child,and yours alone. I think it creates uncertainty for your children if they know that they were donor conceived

      They've done research on this and if children grow up with the knowledge they accept it well, however if they learn later in life it can create an identity crisis and also a huge trust issue in your relationship. It's naive to think that in the era of dna tests they would never find out.

    • @luxconcept
      @luxconcept Рік тому

      actually it does the opposite and can damage them further because the secret it what makes it seem bad. using donor gametes isn't bad or wrong so why hide it? usually the kid doesn't care anyways and they're more just curious about the dna aspect

    I am very happy for Keeley becoming a mum. I think egg, sperm and embryo donation should never be anonymous. I think Keeley hasn’t thought deeply enough about how her little boy will feel growing up. Also with ancestry gene testing sites anonymity will be a thing of the past anyway. Openness and honesty is the best way, no doubt.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. We really need to make a big change in society I think. Young women spend their most fertile years working, travelling, and often not taking relationships seriously (as do males). How do we change this? I see this as the unintended consequence of feminism / equality, sex education (strong messaging for not getting pregnant) and sexual liberation. It’s a cruel fact that fertility for women drops drastically after 35 years of age. Women especially need to talk to younger females more about this. We are also stopping children from having grandparents and great grandparents because first time mothers are much older than they were in previous generations. This all seems like a big societal loss to me. Too many traumatic fertility stories out there. Wish all women out there trying to become mothers well.

    How is it possible to contact Jennifer to discuss her experience?

  • @MsChitterchat
    @MsChitterchat Рік тому

    People hardly ever talk about how the donor conceived children will feel later in life (I know you do on this channel). My understanding is to tell the child in very simple language how they were conceived before they are 3 years old but don’t make a fuss about it - so don’t keep bringing it up all the time and don’t make it too much about the science. Some people use books to tell the child their story but there is a view that this makes a child feel objectified and like they are being told how to feel. Keep it open and simple, and acknowledge the child’s fears and worries. The child’s feelings are the most important thing, not making the parents feel better. It is preferable if identity release donors are used so the child can make contact after they are 18 years old. Most importantly be confident with your child, don’t show any doubt about how you feel and how they were created. Making them feel loved and special is so so important. You need to be their rock! All the best to future parents out there ❤
