Glacier Express BEMO H0 - disappointing quality (not H0m) UPDATED review
Disappointing quality of cars. Here is the answer from the retailer in Germany after contacting BEMO. " The body of the coach is normal like this and it not a reason for a reclamation. If you don't want to keep the cars you can of course send them back" In short according to BEMO quality standards, the bulging of side walls is normal. Updated with an additional content review of Bemo Glacier Express for operation on H0 gauge tracks. Catalog numbers 16559161, 3689115, 3689126, 3689127, 3689128, 3689132

is possible for sale?
Hello, thank you for the great review of the 380 model. I decided to buy the given model in the audio version. It helped me decide on the given model. Greetings from Slovakia.
I wish they would do a new run of these
Very interesting review,I plan to buy this set...not easy
i open this lokmo and cut this clips u dont need this bicose u got a screw and bolts this is inaf and this why i can open this now easyli :)
Pozdrawiam ps. Gdzie mogę znaleźć filmik w którym Pan robi oświetlenie wnętrza wagonu sterowniczego.
😎
Grande bel convoglio e bella la livrea 👍
Thank you for sharing this video. Incredible qualitiy issues and low details, but wihout competition the only model to have on the market at the moment.
Bemo is getting worse with de “New” owners, more profits and less quality imho
Just letting you know Kato N Scale has the TGV Sud Est version and all the other versions.
I do understand your feelings, those situations are always very disappointing but, for me this is sold as it is for some reasons I’m going to explain better: I’ve seen It’s sold at St. Moritz Bahnhof and I’m induced to think that all others Glacier’s Bahnhöfe are reselling it. This package has been made for tourists, not real-modellers, and obviously this is , as far as I can imagine, a very “ toy souvenir for reach people “, and considering the ticket prices for train on panoramic cars, is it simply on the same spot. Just my 2 cents.
Also ich mag die hobbytrade koleje ich wünsche das auch Steuerwagen hätten
I think one of the main issues is that Bemo virtually hold a monopoly on the HOm market (and its derivatives like your HO gauge versions, along with HOe conversions) as far as Europe is concerned. *Some* of their stuff is okayish - about €75 for a passable coach (tending to be on the rather light side but I've not had issues derailing on my quite uneven trackwork). I should mention, I only really started to acquire Bemo because I'm joining in the Hornby TT:120 venture and HOm uses the same gauge track and I've got lots of Swiss HO and N standard gauge. I've got some pretty decent stuff second hand for the €35-€45/coach price mark (which is what they should cost new). I got what must be a pretty old Fürka-Ober alp loco that runs impressively well for €85. I'm sorry you have been so disappointed (so would I have been paying full price and getting what you got). That being said, depending on your set-up, if you're not 100% too bothered by what-should-go-with-what, you can have some fun in the gauge and not feel totally ripped-off by being patient with the second-hand market. As a potentially viable caveat, Bemo *may* argue that their target market is small compared to 16.5mm, etc. and that's why their stuff is so expensive/lower quality... But that would seem a pretty poor excuse...
These cars look good (4 out of 5 stars), run well, but for the price, they should put interior lights and resolve the problem with the figurines.

Fioletowy kabelek został określony jako "niewykorzystany". Dlaczego jest przylutowany? Jest to konieczne, czy nie trzeba go lutować? PS. Bardzo fajny filmik.
Excellent layout and demonstration of using IKEA IVAR systems. Can you show examples or details on maybe how you installed your wiring?
Merci pour la présentation. Ce modèle est rare aujourd'hui.
Hello Peter, you have made a super video of this train, congratiulations. Have a lot of fun with your train.

@@peters.5669 dziękuję za odpowiedź :)
Very interesting and disappointing indeed Peter! Great info though with the video!
Hi Peter, have you ever had one of the gearboxes apart on the axles? Andy.
No i have not i was tempted but this model is so complex and "different"... I reached out to the maker of this model and received new shafts and universal joints. Apparently the issue with the drive in my model was related to the old style of universal shafts between the gear box and buggies. Never installed them.
@@peters.5669 Thanks for your prompt reply, centre axle on one bogie is free wheeling. It's the most difficult to work on because it's covered by the guide bar. If a pinion has slid off it's splines it may be fixable, but is it worth the strip down without an exploded diagram? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Regards Andy.
@@peters.5669 I decided to have a go regardless, a half hours scrutiny meant the guide bar came off with minute levering being shaped in a half ball/socket arrangement. Gearbox has a proud tab on one side, moderate opposing pressure popped the gear cover off. It wasn't quite on properly anyhow which led to the gear mesh separating. Removed bogie by squeezing gently on the sides, it drops away on long pickup wires but capture the springs! Long propshaft detaches and now I had access to both top/bottom of bogie. Pressed gear cover with it's 4 prongs into it's opposite number now firmly together and reverse procedure...Phew. Andy.
Nice review! For the interior I was able to find a small business here in Hungary that produce 3D printed interiors and DCC lighting kits. In this video you can see the process of installing it and the final result: ua-cam.com/video/4OJQSYAMoFE/v-deo.html . Overall in daylight having the interior not really seen from outside, but in night conditions with turned on lighting, it can be a great addition.
as for the EOT marker lights, there is another thing: they're no longer prototypical for this paint scheme. When these cars were overhauled, minor modifications were made on the chassis, LCD displays were installed into the side of the car instead of the train destination sign holders, and the newly installed end of train lights are being receded into the wall almost seamlessly. NMJ didn't remade their injection molding tools for such minor changes. (In order to somewhat mimic the LCD display, they had to resort to simply painting the sign holders black.) Also, that one particular silly mistake with the stairs were not fixed with this newest batch either: When the doors are closed, the stairs should be in folded up position. in real life, they are mechanically coupled that way... (That is how the stairs work on all UIC Z1 cars in Europe, so it truly is a mistery how and why nmj messed this tiny detail up to begin with.) Compared with the ACME cars, maybe ACME gives a bit more bang for the buck. ACME eventually modified the mold too, so ACME cars come with the correct lights and side displays, that's a big plus. There the window tint is a bit less dark, arguably a bit less prototypical, either that or it's just simply a matter of taste (maybe ACME wanted to showcase the nicely made interior.) Steps are in correct position, also maybe the window frames and the doors have a bit better proportions... Tho, ACME came with downsides too: cars with this livery were only available in two different sets, three cars each... So actually, there is no such option as 75.- for a car. The only option os 210.- for a set. Meanwhile NMJ cars were available as singletons: eighteen(!) different variation of types and road numbers in total. Also, NMJ made couchettes too (overall 4 different road numbers) while ACME dropped none so far. Alos worth noting: earlier NMJ cars of new livery came with end doors incorrectly painted to blue. Newer ones (like in this video) came with the correct yellow color. (article numbers for the new ones with the correct painting look like xxx.105 and xxx.106. and 401.104 for the Apmz.) some extra info: the NMJ 1st class compartment (Amz) couch that comes in the box that has 402.103 written on it as article number has the very same road number (61 55 19-91 105-6) as the one you would find in your ACME 55259 set. So if you already have this set from ACME, you might want to especially avoid buying this particular car...
And here is the answer from the retailer in Germany after contacting BEMO. " The body of the coach is normal like this and it not a reason for a reclamation. If you don't want to keep the cars you can of course send them back" In short according to BEMO quality standards, the bulging of side walls is normal.
Shocking to be honest…
@@R1door ended, I received multiple parts from Bemo to replace included entire wall panels still these are $25 models in my opinion. Regards Peter
Peter, if you're being told that the bulging of the side walls is normal, then you have been lied to - either by the dealer or from Bemo if the dealer did really contact them. The bulging of the side walls is not normal Bemo quality! I have over 80 Bemo passenger cars and they do not have bulging side walls. This is a fault. Also, Bemo does not have working close coupling on any of it's models. That design you show of the couplings is exactly the same as the HOm models.
that's a crap model, the car's underbody details were just molded.
hello! Where did you buy them? I want to see the price
Hey, its been a while i had them pre ordered from madellbahn lippe
The entire consist was released in two seperat sets
Thank you for the video! It is difficult to find videos on ACME products. I am about to operate the Treno del Sole but none of the couplers or accessories are mounted. It says in the instructions that mounting certain parts will block the movement of the trucks. The problem is, they do not say which pieces will cause this problem. In your experience, have you discovered which parts they are referring to? Many thanks! Again, good work!
Wäre gut zu wissen welcher Hersteller das ist.
Hi there. The locomotives are from Broadway Limited with QSI sound decoders. Cars from Walthers.
I thought you died from COVID-19. I know it is a mean opening for a comment buy it's what I believed due to the sudden radio silence and the pandemic and knowing you a rather not young person. I am happy to see you back and cannot wait for more reviews. I am surprised that these cars have the intercommunicating doors painted yellow, last time I saw them they weren't yellow painted. And the fact that the transition plate lowers, that is also new. I would never buy these cars as the new ones in real life with this paint scheme do not have the lights at the ends in a square anymore, they look cheap and fast built - I say this mainly because the interior is not there even in a rough form. This is a massive deal breaker for me. The wheels are most probably china made and the sound is from the fact that the cars lack interior rather than their form. But also, that wobbling is unacceptable. Even for 40-50 EUR, this + lack of interior should drop these cars at 30 EUR price point. Nice to have you back and hoping to see more :D
Love it!!! :) and thanks for the additional info and perspective!... it will take more than Covid :) I had it... twice... wrong channel ... all best Peter
Wow that was quick. Thankyou Peter, that was really enjoyable.
thank you
Good to see you back, really enjoy your videos
Thank you Malcolm!
Enjoy your videos, hope to see more in the future. Cheers!
Thank you!
Very good video - thank you for being more activ on YT :) I decided for the MAV cars from ACME. They are a bit more expesive but I think I'm getting more for my money... Keep up the good work - a running session on you layout would be great to see too. Best regards from germany
I already have the ACME set, and I was thinking of getting these also, but the poor quality and lack of interior as seen in this video made me decide against it. I thought NMJ was on the same level as ACME and LS models, but it clearly isn't anywhere near. Thanks for the review!
@@ride279 I had the same expectation of quality from NJM unfortunately... best regards Peter
@@ride279 sometimes they are. in my opinion this set is offering a certain quality for visual effect on large dioramas. meaning that it will certanly look very nice on the run while the distance will not matter in terms of details. in the end how many times people (even collectors) are looking/using the inside details of the mini models? we all just know are inside but this is it... in comparative terms ACME and LS Models do not offer a guarantee of quality, but rather some peaks of quality clearly achieved but which you cannot necessarily count on to find in their next product. I also have extremely unpleasant things from these two brands in my collection. their only certainty remains the price, about twice as high as at NMJ... so when we look at them from a distance either on the diorama or in the display case, at what price and which will be seen with the impact of producing the real feeling? by the way, I am not fan of NMJ 😄
Your videos are always top notch, keep them coming! Also enjoy your reviews of Locos, detailed but not boring. Only thing I'd kindly ask is of a video dedicated to your entire layout, it's rationale, how you operate it, how you displaced vs your space limitations, etc. I mean, your layout is one of my benchmarks! Cheers!
may i know how dissamble the motor car ,i would like to add dcc and light
Hi Michael and sorry for not replying earlier. The power unit on this model is very difficult to open. There is a big clip at the back of the power unit holding the shell. The clip is deep so you will have to use a flat metal object to release the back wall at the bottom. Once you do you just lift the shell from the back up. Peter
Cool video! I would like to see a video with just sometrains running! Hope it is possible. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Love your videos, would really enjoy more rolling stock reviews.
thank you! Time ... the reviews are very time-consuming and with English being my 3rd language it is even more...
Amazing! I'm astonished. Great way to install light inside these cars. Did you think to install lights also inside nightjet sleeping cars yet? Could you make a video about it? A friend of mine would install them in his nightjet set, but we don't know what to do.
Thank you Alex!, like most of us i have a lot of models and projects but not enough time. I simply stopped posting the videos as they are very time-demanding. Peter
I would've wired it up to allow more pickup power for the locomotive, 6 cars, 4 axles each, is 24 extra power pickup axles.
Why do you have czech train? my country is irelevant and its trains suck.
@Ammopoint wanna know a little seacrit, all rail exept one railway corridor are 50years behind rest of Europe and 90% of the trains in service are left overs from the communist era
The PIKO models are good quality at the pricepoint. I would say that you get a little more than you feel you pay for. Very well done.
Super layout !!! What height are the Ikea IVAR ladders you used?
Great layout and trains !!! It looks like you used Ikea IVAR shelve units / elements, which I like a lot as I have them all around my basement. Can you share some more video or pictures of your layout's substructure or plan?
Gorgeous train. Beautiful layout. I really like your F7 locomotives. Are they Walthers models? I am looking to get a really nice matched set of F unit Warbonnets. Can't decide whether I want F3 or F7. Can't decide if I want the modernized version with the cut down side skirts and grab irons on the nose. Your set up looks awsome. I like the A-B-A consist with the 11 cars. Also... Are all 3 locos powered? I know this is an older video but I'm seeing for the first time today. CHEERS ' Steve
that s a very nice release of a train design. if I will think to a chart for ordering the nice modern train design, will be like this: 1) Railjet 2) tthis RZD set 3) Nighjet
