Friday March 20th- What does your work space look like?
HI MR JANIK
My family took us kids there in the 60s Does anyone you recall a Gypsy Fortune Teller booth on the boardwalk? The woman would sit in front, with an intense facial expression. "Madame Pauline:Reader and Advisor" Does anyone remember this?
Thanks
This was just after the stock market crash.I find it odd that people would have any money for day tripping, buying cars, etc. This was supposedly the Great Depression. Most of those kids would be off to war in 10 years.
From the looks of the model cars this was probably just before the NY Stock Market Crash.Mid-late 20’s.All those kids would be marched off into another war in 11 years.
Just after posting i saw the baby parade and someone holding a sign saying 1930 bread line.
"Bert?"
Background music is inappropriate and way too loud
That girl entering the store at :52, she'd fit in anywhere today. I find her fascinating. I wonder who she was.
It's so different than it was when my family went in the sixties. How great it must have been to take a ship ride from Manhattan. We live in Elizabeth, spent a whole week. What great vacations those were. Disney world opened in Florida, then things changed. Hey 95 wasn't even finished yet. Keansburg was great 👍 . We are all in our sixties now . I'll share this with family members. Thanks.
Anyone know what year?
Boat was built in 26 so anything after that
Really boring music and it doesn’t match the video.
Ugh.... the background music is so loud and annoying I can't watch the video how ridiculous. We edit the video without the music or some better time period music much quieter in the background otherwise stop posting
I noticed no one overweight like it is today. Women in dresses even fishing, wow.
I love Keansburg even the way it is now, from the first time we went there summer 1957, moving from the Rockaway Beaches of Queens. I love the Keansburg amusement park still, in Rockaway Beach we had an amusement park called Playland. Went to some fine Irish bars in Keansburg St. Patrick's Day. To the guy who called us Bennies, we were proud Queens people and Long Islanders, not Bennies, pal. We moved to the Jersey Bayshore area in Old Bridge because we lived it here.
Great vintage footage but narration woukd have been better than that annoying music
the music for this video is horrible and now keansburg looks like a unflushed toilet
The Berg has been like that forever.
My home town my bother was the chief of fire Dep he is Retired and now works for the Barrel of Keansburg New Jersey
Not a person of color in sight.
Good video ,annoying music . Watched with sound turned off
Calendar says September 1930
The looks on the cops faces in that staged inspection are priceless
Really cool video. After this time, meth heads on welfare moved in
Somebody thought to put keansburg on the map. Ty for honoring my hometown.
Thank you started visiting in approximately 1965 moved permanently November 24th 1969 Bray Ave Port Monmouth, Bray ave runs straight from PT Mon beginning of Main St to Ideal beach. Many a day spent at the boardwalk during the summer. Back then we had The Belvider pool, and the Crystal was still going. I remember Bray Ave being a dirt road what a great place to grow up. I'm almost 62 and I live in Keansburg now, I love it!!!!! Thanks for the video!
I love keansburg so much I don’t know why but I lived in multiple other places and once I moved to keansburg it has just became home for me
What an adorable couple! I love the swimsuits, where can I get one?
8:19 when people could fit in tiny trains.
Remember the Bumper Car Psychos 😂
I took that ferry to Keansburg when I was very young, before it was destroyed by fire & hurricanes 😞
I was going to ask what happened to the pier. Long gone in my time
Absolutely fascinating! I also thought the background music was inappropriate and irritating, however on my second viewing I thought it was okay. Very soothing and retrospective and it bridges the gap between then and now. My grandparents from Brooklyn took this trip around this time (married in 1929) before my mother (may she rest in peace) was born in 1933. Thank you for posting this!
The music was over done. But the video was great!
This would be so much better with period music, still good as is but I had to watch it with no sound
The music doesn't match the video , but the film footage is great. Thank you for this post.
not one black.
It was paradise. Lmao 😂 poke in the ribs 🤣 giggle giggle 🤯
I agree. My first thought at seeing this. It was a different world. No Jews permitted at country clubs either. At least we have made progress since 1929 or 1930.
You shoukd see keansberg now on a weekend in the summer
I noiticed there were very few fa-- ... uh, obes-- ... um, very few weight-challenged people.
Who gives a crap. Everything is not about what color was there!!! Mayor Eric Adams of NYC stated he did not want white people from Ohio moving into Harlem. I guess to say that is OK!!
GREAT PLACE GREW UP THERE MISS IT
Look at all those Benny's.... ugh!!!
Looks like there's more ppl going to keansburg
These films are great. But the selected background music is really irritating (especially with those incessant digital drum beats). Should've used time -appropriate music.
It's absolutely Insidious. It's too loud an obnoxious. Whoever produces video has little experience and poor judgement
Nice to see these videos
The background music is driving me crazy + there is too much talk !
a fake intro with real footage, nicely done, possibly a college film project. i saw this ferry boat, rusting away, at City Island NY. in 1979. it was to have been converted into a restaurant and night spot - good luck with that idea !
Brian Janik - thanks for sharing your 4 videos of Keansburg. When were the films shot?
I knew Henny well. When I didn't have a dime he would give me a donat .If you notice he always had a towel over his left arm and hand . He showed me a wooden hand one time .i was only 7 but I remember how nice he was.
