I like your version Ed, that tune is like Tony Rices Church Street Blues, noone could learn it the way Tony played it so I took several months learning it and made a video explaining it as best I could and now everyone and their brother plays it very close to the way Tony did. I'd have to do major pracitce to play it now but my video must have helped a lot of folks.

I think you're doing a great job of Classical Gas.I know what you mean about those overly simplistic videos of a song that you just want to know the chords and main riff of. Keep havin' fun, Ed.

I hope I never stop learning! I understand what you mean by people teaching on UA-cam. And maybe there's a place for that, but it's not for me either. I totally understand what you mean by pushing yourself out of the box.... I have learned more from trying certain country songs than I learn from the stuff I like. And it allows me to throw licks into the stuff I like. Also, this amplifier repair and building thing has taken me way out of my comfort zone and I'm loving it. Please tell me. How does that guitar feel? The nylon string one.... what's the neck like? I like the fact it's thin. I have been on the lookout for a nylon string guitar.

    • @EdDanaGuitar
      @EdDanaGuitar День тому

The neck is wider that say a Strat, but it's not thicker. It has to be wider because the trebble strings are thicker. The action is excellent for an acoustic and it fretts like butter. Really easy on the fretting hand. The fact that it's shaped ike a tele makes it real comfortable and it's super light. They are less that 5 pounds. Getting into amp building and repair is a good business to be in because techs are SUPER hard to find!

Most lesson videos make me wanna bust a guitar over the dude's head too... I be like, "I know how to make a D chord, get on with it dammit!"... or they show you four notes and "let's review what we've done so far", then they add one note and "let's review what we've done so far"... or you get Scott Grove "lessons", which are like the teacher who writes on the blackboard with one hand as he's erasing with the other... 🤣

You did better than I would on classical gas. Getting out of my comfort zone is the bass. If I can find a decent used 5 string bass that is in my price range might upgrade this year. Move up from the free one I got. That and I want to play bass like Peter Steele (Type O Negative) and he tuned 3 1/2 steps down on a 4 string. Figured I'll just get a 5 string getting out of your safe space is a good thing.

Well, fortunately, there are domestically-made guitars to be had along with an over-supplied used market. I'm Canadian so I won't have to worry about Chinese tariffs but who knows what else might happen? I have all the guitars I want for the foreseeable future so I'll be alright. I have two acoustic dreadnoughts, two Strat-types, one LP-type, an SG and a Thinline (Semi-Hollow) Tele-type. I also have a new Yamaha Line-6 Catalyst 200W (2×12") modelling amp and wireless plug setup. I'll be ok for a long time to come.

When it comes to this overseas stuff. It REALLY depends on what factory they are coming out of. Samick, World, Cort, all great factories who take pride in their work. I understand Samick now has a factory in China. This REALLY cheap stuff is not coming out of those factories, obviously. Your mono price amp is almost certainly a champ circuit. Which is why you like how it sounds. We can now produce that circuit for next to nothing and then sell it at $200 or whatever. There's certainly some great craftsmanship in China. Unfortunately, it seems for every great China factory, there's 10 terrible factories. But if I don't have a guitar and I need to go on stage tonight. I will not be on stage with a temu guitar. Should have been a lawyer.

I didn't know that this was turning into a debate. Going back on videos of made in China guitars. It is a lot of mixed reactions. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don't. I have been lucky a few times, but that can change in a few more years. You would have much better luck with buying a brand name guitar and being able to play it right out of the box, it may need a little help with a set up. The China guitars are really not playable out of the box. They are not even close. I have not bought a guitar off of Amazon. For guitars, I have stuck with Zzounds, Sweetwater, and eBay. Mostly used guitars on eBay. For the Chibson guitars, I stuck with eBay. I might have gotten a good guitar with the Jimmy Page Chibson, but it was not always like that. I have had to put a lot of work into mine in order to get them playable. I'm not a good guitars player, but I have felt what a bad set up feels like. Even with a beginner player, the biggest reason why they don't get into guitars and give up playing/learning is because the guitar is hard to play out of the box. My Gibson blueberry burst is the only guitar that I have that I didn't have to do anything to. The rest of the brand names were close, but not to my liking and could be played out of the box. Give a kid a Chinese guitar for $200. You maybe looking at sharp fret ends, bad wiring, twisted neck, crappy tuners, binding nuts... and no one likes their nuts binding lol. Oh, and not to forget the guitar folding in half. By the time you get the work done to it, now you paid what it would be for a midgrade Epiphone or Squier. Some guitar shops won't even touch a Chibson because of their poor quality build. Yes... a chines guitar can be good, depending on the manufacture and a simple set up is required. But.... you are also taking a gamble on what you are getting. They may look nice and look like the real thing, but they are far from it. You know by watching my older videos and from my deleted channel. I have had a lot of the no named brands of guitars. Every one of them needed some work done. Not everyone knows how to work on guitars and have to take them to a shop. Shops are not cheap. I would say, save your money till you can buy something that is more of the middle end of a brand name. Maybe not even a new middle end guitar, save a little money that way. To be honest... After putting all the work into my Chibson guitars. I'll pick up my Chibson for practicing rather than my higher end guitars. If I bump it, I'll be less pissed off.

ESP guitars electric sound products yes that's really what it means is a Japanese Company. At one point they were the dejour rock/metal guitars to own. I have two myself I wanted a M-II they discontinued them. A friend said get a Kirk Hammett signature. I told him I wanted an M-II he said that is what it was an ESP M-II. Well a reverse head stock ESP M-II. My other is the law suit exploerer always liked the shapes. Every guitar company puts out some duds I played 12 SG's before I found my SG played at least 10 acoustic 12-strings before I found the guild. You got to find the guitar that speaks to you its point of origin is not relevant in most cases.

Speaking of Ibanez, I was playing with the older guys I was jamming with and one of them (not really much older than me) looked at my guitar and condescendingly said, “You know my first guitar was an Ibanez”. He was referring to the old days in the 70’s when they were knock offs. I however was playing an RG with a Floyd Rose and a set of Dimarzio Evolution pickups. This guy must have missed the late 80’s when Ibanez ruled the world. lol I was a teenager in the 70’s but love my 80’s guitars! Point being is these somewhat older guys still live in the Fender Gibson and nothing else days.

I bought a Vintage R52 telecaster made in Vietnam used for $299. I changed the wiring for a premium 4 way switch and the Fender Vintera 50's pickups and it sounds so nice, better than anything I could tell. I dont think it's fair to compare a concert instrument to electric guitars. You may have a point on acoustic guitars.

They are following trends I say quality over quantity is more important. It's partly why I decided not to do youtube. I don't dance on demand. These youtubers get these cheap guitars for a discount or free and can't tell the truth. If they do the company will cut them off from their cash cow. Like right now there is a Chinese made $1500 or $11,000 (if you want an autographed one) guitar Lee Greenwood is griftin (had to misspell a word youtube censorship add a g to the end). It's a Chibson being advertised as 'made in the USA and overpriced 7 to 10 times what it should be. The very same youtubers bought one and surprise surprise surprise some claim it's just as good or better than a Gibson. Our epiphone Les Paul specials are 1,000,000,00p times better than the fore mentioned guitar guitar but hey anything to keep from getting a real job right?

speaking from experience... you can take a cheap guitar and make it amazing. Replace all the parts etc. But when you try to sell it, none of those upgrades matter and folks still just want to pay the original price. You are not upgrading the value of the guitar... just its value to YOU

Back in the day on UA-cam we used to talk about making our cheap guitars, better, as cheap as possible. I watched a guy last night talking about everything he was doing to his Squier including a Fender stucker on the headstock. Now he's in for like $800 plus the cost of guitar and he could have bought the Fender with all of that in it and still had a better guitar. Question EVERYTHING that comes out of China. Especially the stuff you are wearing on your body or anything your absorbing into your skin. There's no regulation over there when it comes to this stuff. So, I'm guessing there is zero regulation over there when it comes to electronics and guitars. If the product cost next to nothing monetarily. You should probably ask at what cost to your health or life. I'm still all about "sleeper guitars" which Scott got me into. The old Yamaha, Aria Pro, and many more. Most of them being Japanese made where they put QC above everything else way back in the 70's. We could talk on and on about it.... But this $50 stuff that's coming out now and claiming to be great. If it's great, great.

Edlington bro!! I agree with you specifically related to Donner and a few other Temu brands labelled by whoever buys bulk and sells them. But, I don't agree with Fire Fly. In the beginning, yes, they were absolutely issues, but the Chinese are a proud industrial people, not the "CCP Government) They've worked exceedingly hard reaching out to some of the big guitar demo channels and now they're putting out superior guitars which are flawless. We're in a "Golden Age" of cheap, quality guitars, and of course we'll see some real crap, but you can no longer put FireFly in that category bro. Buy one of their LP deluxe and I assure you that, you'll be shocked at the detail, flawless body and finish, quality tiger stripe and or birds eye tops. Everything they do is top quality at low cheap labour Chinese price points. For under $200 you can have an axe that you can take on any gigs and will hold its own against the multi thousand dollar guitars. Selling guitars for over three grand is criminal! Who legitimises the outrageous price tags, what kind of cork sniffer do you have to be to pay North of $4,000 and up in the tens of thousands for a guitar. You simply cannot justify that kind of ass skinning! Now you two crazy kids have a very happy, prosperous New Year Edlington & Linda!! Jack ~'()'~

I have worked on a lot of guitars, you know I have. I have come a long way from what I was to now. I don't know who you are talking about, but they are very wrong. You can make a guitar better than what it was, but the over all quality will never be as of a higher end guitar. You can change everything that is removable, but the body and neck is still not the same. Wood is dried different and they types of wood used from one manufacture to another. I have, or had 3 body blanks that I have sat on for 3 years till I started using them. I have made guitars better than what they were, also custom painting and still I don't sell them for big bucks. I was using Epiphone, ESP LTD, and Squier bodies and some necks to customize. I get a few dollars back on them, but not like if they were Gibson, Fender, or Marten. I might have said in the past that I made something as good as.... But I don't think I ever said it is like the real thing. You can always make something better, but you can never make it exactly the same as the real thing.

I hear you Eric. My bench mark for modding is a MIM Fender or an Inspired by Gibson Epiphone. If the overall cost approaches one of those it’s too much. Those are reasonable quality expectations to achieve by modding so if I can get away with roughly 2/3 the price of one of those I’ll do it. IE good as a MIM Strat for $400 - $500 it’s worth doing. Over that just spend the money and get the real thing. MIM Fenders only get personalization mods, not upgrades. Inspired by Gibson Epiphones get strap locks.

Your Harley Benton strat sounds every bit as good as any Fender I've ever had or heard and actually better than some. I realize that is not all in the guitar itself, but that just proves the point. If a person can play at least halfway decent and has the amp dialed in right, it is gonna sound awesome. No one can tell how much the guitar cost. As you say, no one cares. It seems you and I have the same opinion about the temu situation. I've lost a lot of respect for a couple of very popular youtubers over the temu guitar is just as good crap. Hope you and miss Lynda are having a good Christmas and New Years! 👍
