Yellowfan555: Apparently you are uneducated about elephants! Please do yourself and all the elephants a favor and do some research! They are not fine! Ruth has been constantly sick because of the conditions there and Emily will continue to be aggressive. Not because she is evil or hates Ruth but because she is frustrated with the cruelty of the situation that stupid people like you think are okay to be in. Elephants should not sleep on concrete floors, kept in rooms almost too small for them to turn around in and kept enclosed for 16 plus hours a day. Veterinarians should be available all hours of the day, should give the animals proper medicine when they are sick and should not be denied follow up exams. The list is long on how this zoo has failed both of these elephants. There is proof that the two elephants have been seriously mistreated. You should not call yourself someone who cares about animals in general because you clearly do not! The zoo states it is unsafe for them to travel and that is wrong! They do not want to lose any money. They have a chance to live out the rest of their lives in a proper habitat and with proper veterinarian care. Is that too much to ask for? Do you not want to live free to roam and be given proper medical help when you need it?

How selfish you are to not think about the pain that an animal goes thru for human entertainment! The pain and suffering they go thru from not being in the proper surroundings and given the best care that they deserve! You are heartless!

hiking adventures101 Okay Listen I don’t work at the zoo and I’m not selfish I’m just trying to throw my honest opinion. I love going to zoos and I think this whole retiring thing is wrong because the elephants had recovered, but I get why you guys want that to happen. All I want to say is that I’m sorry if I offended you all.

@@Yellowfan555 There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion and you did not offend me; your statement is confusing. I am sorry but in my opinion you are selfish. You said that retiring them is wrong because the elephants had recovered? Do you think that its okay to use a bull hook on any elephant? A sick, lame, elderly one at that, just because you want it to do tricks for the "guests?" That is called "greed. selfish and extremely cruel." Its okay that they are denied veterinarian care? There is proof that there is abuse against Ruth and Emily and you say its okay for them to stay there? Because of these conditions Ruth and Emily will continue to be at risk and that is okay with you? Elephants life span is shorted by 20 years when they are kept in captivity. These two elephants have given more than 30 years, for human entertainment and they have a right to live their life free! Free to roam and graze in a place where they will be properly looked after 24 hours a day and will receive the love and attention they deserve. Most importantly medical attention! I do apologize for calling you stupid, that was rude. I understand you want the elephants to stay because they are very intelligent and fun to watch. We need better education for our children and for the adults. I was lied to most of my life but decided it was time I re educated myself and learn more about animals that I said I loved and cared about. It is not all about us, it is about them and better treatment to all animals that are in captivity. Zoos should be held accountable for their cruelty towards the animals that they say they love and care about. Zoos only care about making a profit and so the suffering will continue, unless we start demanding otherwise. People need to stop and realize that all is not always what it seems. This is out right cruelty and you are okay with that? We are supposed to look out for one another; for the voiceless, the injured; are animals not included because they are just "animals?" I apologize for this being so long but again, we need better education and it is NOT all about what we, humans, want! It is 100% about doing what is right for everybody and every living creature on this planet! Every living creature on this planet has a purpose and should be treated with respect and love! Do you not want those things?
