@rickm9607 that may be true in recent presidential elections, however we currently have a Republican governor, and historically, have had republican majority house and state senate, though both right now are held just barely by the Democrats. So I'd say politics in Virginia are a lot more purple than they might seem from the outside looking in

If you just want land, like a few acres or more, options are very limited in Hampton, but they do exist!

That's a great question! My experience is that mosquitos in the area are active later in the spring and through summer. They're mostly gone now. I haven't found them to interfere with outdoor activities other than as the sun is setting they come out en masse and make relaxing outside, or anything where you're standing still, very difficult.

I really tend to agree with you on this. We could probably dissolve half the HOAs in Hampton Roads and the neighborhoods wouldn't change a bit. At a certain point, pride of ownership takes over!

Thank you for your comment! I really love a lot about Hampton, I just think there's so much untapped potential. I genuinely believe Hampton should be one of the premier mid-sized cities on the east coast. Downtown Hampton should be filled with people and shopping and waterfront dining, but there's very little activity there outside of the small strip of restaurants and Bull Island. There should be at least two restaurants similar to YROC in Gloucester, but the only place close is Surf Rider. It's like Hampton forgot it was surrounded by water. Neighborhoods like Phoebus should look like Cape Cod towns, but haven't raised their quality to match the greatness of East Mellon St. But even there, the best little lot right before the bridge has been and empty concrete slab for at least 15 years. There's just so much untapped greatness in Hampton and my disappointment comes from that.

@@movingtohamptonroads I'm planning to move back. It's just that things currently aren't going in my favor. I didn't realize how much I loved growing up in Virginia until after I moved out. When I was growing up in Virginia, I had an anxious desire to move out. My plan was to move out after graduating from high school. As I stated beforehand, I graduated from Bethel High School in 2013. Then, less than a month later, my mom moved the family to Buffalo, New York, where we lived for a few months and then in early 2014, we moved Greensboro, North Carolina and have been living here since. As I said before, my plan was to move out of Virginia after graduating from high school. I'm glad I graduated just in time; I just did not expect it to happen so fast. Upon realizing that, the more I think about it, I never wanted to move out of Virginia. And in the years since I moved out of Virginia, I learned two things: 1. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get your wish; you just never know when and how you'll get it. 2. Appreciate what you have now because you don't know what you have until it's gone and when it's gone, it's gone and you might not get it back.

We cover taxes and stuff like that in other videos. The research I've done on the subject (not that I'm a professional in the field) does show that Newport News is fairly average, to slightly above average, for taxes when compared to other mid-sized cities across the U.S.

Thank you for your comment! One of the great aspects of a VA loan is that they're assumable by non-military as well! So if you're selling your home with that amazing 2.25%, as long as the buyer meets the lenders qualifications and can make up the gap between the sales price and the mortgage amount, they can assume your loan regardless of military status!

If there's a shooting every day, then the gun owners of Hampton are very bad shots! From Google: As of August 13, 2024, Hampton, Virginia had nine homicides, which is a 73% drop from 2023 when the city had 22 homicides. This is part of a 27% overall drop in homicides across the seven cities in Hampton Roads, which includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Newport News, Chesapeake, and Suffolk.
