Cycle of flam rudiments
This is a warm-up exercise containing four of the standard flam rudiments that cycle from the "open" character of the flam paradiddle to the "dense" single flams. It is meant to be played in a cycle like a mantra. The 5/16 bar alternates the lead sticking from one hand to the other. The exercise can be counted in quarter notes with the exception of the 5/16 bars that can be counted as one beat of five 16th notes. In this example the counting consists of one syllable and the using of pitch to outline the character of each beat in a given measure. By using a mirror or camera you can observe how the arm movements get faster going from the flam paradiddle to the single flams in each cycle.
