Finnish Listening Practice: What Is Politics? What do we need it for?
Kiitos!
Kiitos! Joo mä laitoin toiseen kommenttiin linkkejä suomalaisiin true crime -kanaviin. 👍 Toivottavasti niistä on hyötyä.
Thank you! In my opinion, learning a language through true crime videos is a great idea. Can you recommend one or more Finnish True Crime-UA-cam channels?
Hi! Thanks for the comment. First I have to recommend true crime videos of Yle Areena because they have real human made subtitles at least in "Rikostarinoita Suomesta” and "Rikostarinoita historiasta”. Not sure if they are watchable outside of Finland. I think Ville Mäkipelto makes nice videos, although they are mostly about other topics. He speaks clearly (with a pleasant voice and high quality videos) and is highly educated. His latest book is about serial killers which I can recommend. It seems that he deletes the automatic subtitles though. I’ve watched the true crime youtube channel KAAMOS a bit. Maybe he uses quite advanced vocabulary. On the other hand it has automatic subtitles. Also he seems to talk quite slowly and clearly. 👍 Anyone else have recommendations?
More Finnish language true crime UA-cam channels; Pinjamari Jirout, Annukka Lascelles, Qoya true crime and the aforementioned Kaamos.
How do you feel about true crime? Do you like to use it in your language studies? What other content do you like to consume?
thank youu, I love the videos

Hyvää juttu! This is like me talking with my son. He always has "would you rather..." questions for me.
😀Do you wanna share some questions that your son has asked you?
Moi, olen laiska opiskelija. Kiitos, sinun video auttaa minua paljon ❤
Onneksi olkoon! 👍 Tervetuloa Suomeen. 🤝
I completely agree with all you have to say, though I wouldn't call it laiskus, rather a differently segmented method of learning. I am a native English speaker who is fluent in Spanish (university major), but I also taught myself Finnish and Italian informally through self-directed study and italki, and the other things you mention I do too. Watching TV series is the only thing I don't do enough of, but I did watch both the Deadwind and the Hautlehto: kylmä syli series in Finnish; and I Hate Christmas, an Italian comedy series on Netflix. It is a bit of romantic fluff, but it has realistic daily dialogue and a surprise ending. I hate video games (I'm too old for them).
That’s interesting to know. 👍 Thanks for the Italian show recommendation.
Kiitti videosta!
What kind of job do you do? Just curious
I work in a daycare center so taking care of kids. 😮💨 Hopefully other stuff soon.
Hi Max. You are doing a very useful job.I'm a very lazy guy, I procrastinate and watch a lot if videos in Finnish 😁
Hi Ivan! Thank you for the comments. 😀 I think watching a lot of videos can be very useful. Of course it’s good to combine it with some active language production as well.
I also like languages, I've been learning Finnish for 3 years and it is neverending processes.the more I learn the more I realize I don't know it😅
Perhaps it is nice to know/remember that there are some grammar rules that are not used in spoken Finnish that even many native speakers struggle with. I guess the main thing is to be understood and understand. To be able to talk about a variety of topics. To know the most important collocations. Only spies need perfect grammar and pronounciation. 😀
I liked your video, you look like a really nice person. How many friends you have and how you met them?
Nice to know that you liked my videos. 🙂 It’s a difficult question because I don’t have strict rules on how you can be my friend, for example on how often we have to meet. I consider quite a few of my previous colleagues as friends even though I haven’t been in contact with them in years. I feel I should contact old friends more. I met many people through my language learning hobby but many other places too, such as student restaurants where I used to go often and start talking with people. 😀 Some other places too.
Mahtavaa
Kiitos!
Kiitos oikein paljon!
I couldn't learn German because I coulnd't feel the attraction to the language, I thought there are too much "RkhkrR" sounds, like French. But I could learn Finnish more easily and I felt the emotional attraction because some of its grammatical rules very resembled to my native language Turkish. I even say that Turkish also secretly sounds like %5 percent Finnish :D Every Turkish knows some Finnish word even from the birth. Possession suffix "-n"is same in both of them: minun benim, sinun senin. Origins of some verbs is same, Unohtaa(FI) Unustama(EE) Unutmak(TR), Unartakh(Mongol). Onnea ongun... the only dissapointing thing about Finnish is; the usage rules of negativeness indicator Ei, Estonian is much simplier.
That’s interesting to know. I don’t know very much about Turkish or Türkiye, so it’s nice to know that there are some connections there. 🤝 I know it’s quite a unique culture between Europe and Asia and in a very strategic location. 🫡
Mahtavaa! 👍 Olet varmasti oppinut siitä paljon uusia sanoja.
Terve ja kiitos videosta!
Kiitos kiitoksesta. 🙂

I acquire tons of vocabs by just spamming anki everyday and only study little grammar. I write down words that I am not familiar with yet. Also, thanks for the video, I learned a lot.
Interesting. 👍 At the moment I’m using Anki only for learning kanji but I’ve used it a lot for memorizing phrases too in the past. Some decks have audio too, as you probably know.
@@FinnishLanguageNuggets Yes, some do have audio but those are quite rare as I could not find a few quality one. Although I have one with Ai generated audio with example sentence. Would be nice if you could recommend me one with actual human audio, if not, it's ok. Thanks in advance. By the way, I'm studying Finnish.

Kiitos oikein paljon! Oli hyödyllinen ja mielenkiintoinen video
