Without The Beatles
United Kingdom
Приєднався 4 вер 2024
This is the UA-cam home of the Without the Beatles podcast, presented monthly by Des Burkinshaw and Mark Hooper.
Here you'll find short films and excerpts from the main podcast.
We have been doing interviews for this for almost 10 years, and now, finally you get to see them - full length interviews with amazing names - from Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Neil Innes of Monty Python/The Rutles through to David Attenborough and Nancy Sinatra.
Season 1 begins on Sept 28 2024 with 2 episodes - an introduction to the series and a real rarity, our interview with the late, great, Lemmy from Motorhead. He discusses the 60s, fashion, and his lifelong love affair with the Fab Four. Recorded a couple of years before his passing, Lemmy was on top form and this may be the last chance to see a new, previously unbroadcast, interview with him.

The top 10 Beatles channels on YouTube
We've been slogging away creating our audio podcast, Without the Beatles, for some time. We're also on UA-cam.
We're Des Burkinshaw and Mark Hooper, the co-hosts. We've been watching UA-cam's Beatles' contents for many years now, and we had no problem coming up with a personal list of the best sites for Beatles fans.
Des takes you through it in this film.

Andy Partridge on how George Harrison impacted British youth by loving Indian culture
Переглядів 1,7 тис.9 годин тому
Andy Partridge wrote some of our favourite songs as one of the two writers of XTC. From Senses Working Overtime and The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead, he's also written for many other artists including The Monkees. He is surely one of Britain's greatest songwriters. As the main writer behind XTC and their psychedelic alter-ego, the Dukes of Stratosphear, he has been an incredible force since the ...

Andy Partridge is surely one of Britain's greatest songwriters. As the main writer behind XTC and their psychedelic alter-ego, the Dukes of Stratosphear, he has been an incredible force since the time of New Wave. As part of the abortive Without the Beatles documentary, we caught up with Andy a few years ago for this never-before seen interview on the impact The Beatles had on him, growing up i...

Best of luck with your new channel. There can never be enough Beatles' channels in the world
Andrew Dixon and Dinner With Greebo are worth checking out, as well as Something About The Beatles and They May Be Parted. Andrew at Parlogram and Matt (Pop Go The 60s) are excellent UA-camrs !
“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in”.
Bullshit. Plenty striving for greatness. Sure there’s 1000x more mediocre cretins around, but there’s still the same amount, of not more kids who play ‘real’ music and are having a go.
yeah, sure, but none of THEM are doing covers of the tambourine part of Tomorrow Never Knows! 😉
who is? 🤣

@@mschiano1 Taxed Man. Not the most sophisticated tambo part, but you nailed it.
Your comments on Fathom are spot on. If you love The Beatles... you will greatly enjoy watching Fathom take deep dives into their songs. It is brilliant.
Andrew from Parlogram is a must-watch. Two of my other favorites are Andrew Dixon and Beatley Tone's Beatles Channel.
Distracting with the green mug.
You cannot come between an Englishman and his tea.
Beatles Bible?
Thanks for the pointers! I'd add Elliot Robert's. @ElliotRobertsVideos
Thank you for including Fathom! She is amazing. Infectious is a perfect word for her.
Easiest one to pick tbh! x
the best prepared besides David Bennett is Parlogram! best Beatles channel because so much detail and media offered.
Thanks for the shoutout!!! 😊
Van Zandt talks about collaboration. But his boss Mr. Springsteen never gave him writing credits. Steve is a socialist living in a capitalist's world.
I never liked The Beach Boys as I found them too sugary and without depth. Of course, it's all personal, and I respect those that love them.
“It started with them, and just never stopped” 😊
Very good 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
There is an audio podcast which is astounding in its attention to detail, One Sweet Dream, done by a woman named Diana Ericsson. I agree about Fathom. I had had no idea she was from New Zealand.
Will check out One Sweet Dream / thanks Bob!
@WithoutTheBeatles indeed! Happy New Year!
John Heaton
Love AP, but his "American accent" needs work.
L0ved the bit in the Rutles film where the dude playing Ge0rge brings a sitar in the studi0 and is seen in the backgr0und trying t0 bl0w int0 it.
It's the mole from the ministry ...
Unfortunately Lennon’s humour could be quite sarcastic and cruel when the cameras and microphones were switched off. His occasional face gurning and foot stomping between songs on stage, which mimicked those with mental/physical difficulties, known in those days as spastics, was terrible! Not fab at all!
the beattles were just a over hyped boy band .......
At least you can sing or hum along to the BB's, not like this rap crap today.
In a thousand years the Beatles will be gods
Great records are made by an army of people? Maybe when there was massive budgets for recording, but if you think since those budgets have shrung, no great records have been made, you're full of it. Even before that, there were a lot of great records produced on a smaller budget, with the bands or performers co-producing.
Totally agree, Andy.....the 'comedy' of The Beatles is quite overlooked by most.
This is great. The power of humor can be underestimated. If Bill the Butcher taught us in "Gangs of New York" the power of violent acts, then it's fair to counter with the power of love and laughter.
Bob Dylan never did this.
When you're stuck in the fifties, that's the conclusion you might reach.
It was Help the movie with the sitar.
I was lucky enough to see XTC twice - once in Vancouver, once in London. Fab that Andy is a fan of Help! which unjustly is banished these days as some mistakenly insist it is racist simply because it deals with an Eastern cult. It is a frigging musical comedy, people!
You can see the influence in The Dukes Of Stratosphear's video for "The Mole From The Ministry".
He's such a great guest.
I got a transistor radio for my first Communion in fall 1962. I was seven years old. I immediately fell in love with it and listened assiduously to the likes of Elvis, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins, Nat King Cole, Bobby Vinton, Ray Charles, Buddy Holly, and so on. And then, less than a year later, they started playing songs by the Beatles in anticipation of their first US tour later that year. I was immediately hooked and, more importantly, I was prepared. Once they appeared on Ed Sullivan, the die was cast. But not only did I never lose touch with the music that preceded the Beatles, I immediately grasped the connection between them and their American predecessors as well as the distinct difference they represented, together with the British acts that followed. A mere three to four years later, my pubescent ears were graced with a popular music explosion the likes of which the world had never seen before and will probably never see again. I would even drift momentarily away from the Beatles, listening to new bands like the Doors, the Jefferson Airplane, Cream, and so on, but then the Fab Four would come out with another release and corrall us all back into their stable. And they all gave us hope for the future, with the Beatles leading the way. It was an extraordinary time in which to be an adolescent. It's almost as if everything else since has been a falling away from those magical moments when it seemed that music, poetry, and art could change the world for the better. Somehow, some way, the world has to get back to that place, or to a similar place. If not, we are lost.
XTC, such a great and underrated band! Swindon's greatest export for sure.
Ugghhh....
When the guys in the room were John, Paul, and George (Martin), it's a fair bet that the best ideas they came up with were pretty good ...
I wouldn't wipe my arse on The Stones.
The Bealtes had to write songs for The Stones because they weren't capable of finishing an album....Its worst debate ever.
Elvis did not write his own songs!
We see the decline evident every year when there are no new good Christmas songs. And every year the same refrain of “it’s because there are so many good songs already”- as if that wasn’t the case in the past too.
This is "literally" something else.
Fun, Fun, Fun was a great song. It was for me the ideal song to put on or hear when driving to the beach. In hindsight, I would think The Beatles were actually more punk rock friendly. As much as most who don't really know every song, they did rock rather hard or aggressively on some songs.
Absolutely pointless to make comparisons. Each band brought something different to the table. The real hard bastards were Eric Burdon and The Move.
Andy is so correct. Apart from the great music they were bloody funny. Look at any of their early films to plug a new single and they are always on the verge of cracking up laughing. I remember someone who worked on ‘ Pop Go The Beatles’ radio series saying they would be rolling around on the floor laughing their heads off. In the early days they were having a ball..
Joni Mitchell said in an interview, a few years ago, that the music business has always been run by crooks, but they used to be crooks that loved music.
What a charming, articulate man! Nice to hear this legend just talking. Nice!
This guy is an "expert" from when the Beatles first came to America, before that time, he has no idea of who the Beatles are. Just like America, in WW2. They entered the war 2 years after it started, and they became experts who knew all about war! Amazing. The world had started to change when the Beatles first came out of Liverpool, and I remember that well. It was all over the world, by then and the last to be affected by "Beatle-mania" was USA. God bless 'em.
I'd read where Paul kind of put down the "Rivalry" between The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He said the "Real Rivalry" was between The Beatles and The Beach Boys...they respected Brian Wilson that much.
Think of Eagles Hotel California, Moody Blues Nights in White Satin, Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven, Rush's Xanadu, Genesis Suppers Ready, etc. There are no songs like these today. There are quality musicians who cover these old bands, but nothing new is created unless it fits the autotuned back up dancer industry quick buck standard.
