Shredded the RS5T at midnight. This particular horn is an ex-Seaboard/CSX RS5T-RRO which I've upgraded to full orifice. Happy New Year!!!
3D Printed Old Cast P5, A Major 6th (M5/K5LA Chord)
Переглядів 2,1 тис.28 днів тому
Here is another recording of my 3d Printed Old Cast P5 replica train horn, this time tuned to the classic major 6th chord shared by the M5 and K5LA. This was done by increasing the bore depth of the #3 bell to change the note from a G natural to F#. You might notice the low manifold as opposed to the gull wing from my previous videos. That's part of a new project I'm working on, but all the bel...
Leslie RS-4T Horn (SL-4T reproduction with RS Power Chambers!)
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Місяць тому
The SL4T was used by Amtrak before the K5LA and very few real ones exist today. I temporarily converted my RS5T into an SL4T replica, composed of bells 31, 37, 48, and 55 (basically a S3K with a 55 bell added). A very unique and recognizable sound for sure. The 48 bell in this example was 3d printed.
Killer Leslie RS5T-RF Horn

This is my ex-SBD/CSX Leslie RS5T-RRO which I currently have set up with full orifice dowel pins, and arranged in the R31, 55 configuration to mimic the classic N&W sound. This is the same bell arrangement found on the remaining Norfolk Southern RS5T horns in service.
3D Printed Old Cast P5, Minor Chord
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Місяць тому
Here is my 3d printed Nathan P5 horn tuned to an eerie F# Minor 6th chord. I got the inspiration for this from an old Lionel Legacy horn that plays the same notes: C#, D#, F#, A, C# (which can be seen in this video at the 1:18 mark. ua-cam.com/video/F-RaV6Tj94Y/v-deo.html) Each bell was printed in PETG with removable spacers so I could adjust the fine tuning myself. This particular chord requir...
Nighttime Train Horn Runbys w/Crazy Echoes
Переглядів 1 тис.3 місяці тому
Here's a few train horn recordings I took took back in winter near Duncannon, PA. The valley ridges made for some stellar echoes alongside the NS Pittsburgh line. All of the horns belong to a friend except the CSX K5LA. The horns are in order as follows- -Chessie System Big Bore K5LA. 1977, big tag, cork foot gaskets.Very rare early production. This recording was taken before remachining of the...
1977 Chessie Corker K5LA - Big Tag, Big Bore 5
Переглядів 2,6 тис.4 місяці тому
This is a very rare, early production Nathan K5LA, that a friend of mine recently scored on facebook marketplace in very rough shape. It has cork foot gaskets which are only present on 1977 K5LAs, hence the name “corker.” Also present are the signature big tag manifold and big bore #5 bell with a factory restricted inlet. The C&O stamp on the bottom of the manifold indicates Chessie System heri...
Leslie RS5T-RRO Full Orifice, Ex Seaboard/CSX
Переглядів 3,6 тис.5 місяців тому
My latest acquisition, a Leslie RS5T-RRO. This horn is of Seaboard origin, though the surface layer of gray is not the original SBD gray. DF stamp on the manifold dates it to 4th quarter 1979 and shows signs of CSX blue and traces of the original gray underneath. The Parsippany power chambers were very worn when I received the horn and had trouble sounding properly, so I had all 5 remachined by...
CSX Tagless K5LA Ripping Through the Pocono Mountains
Переглядів 18 тис.6 місяців тому
Here is my CSX YN3 K5LA after sending it to Mike Muha for minor thread repairs and retuning. He increased the bore depths of the 2, 3a, and 4a to help bring them perfectly in-tune with the 1 and 5 bells. This horn originally came from CSX #2235, a scrapped GP35 road slug. Has 80s bells with narrow font backcaps which dates it to late 1989 to early 1990 (transition era).
Leslie RS3K Parts Horn (3D Printed 48 Bell)
Переглядів 4,8 тис.6 місяців тому
Me and a friend decided to piece together an RS3K using various parts from our existing horns... We took the manifold, power chambers, and 31 bell from his RS3L, and the 37 bell from my RS5T. I was able to 3d print a working 48 bell from a set of Leslie models I found online, and here's the result. I can say for sure I was not expecting it to sound this good
WORKING 3D Printed Old Cast P5 Train Horn
Переглядів 10 тис.9 місяців тому
Here's a project I've been working on the past few months... A Fully Functional, 3D printed Old Cast P5. After seeing the video of @TheHornKing 's example, I decided to try making my own from the same models. 6 rolls of filament later, here it is. I intend to make a P0 bell as well as a 4a for more experimenting in the future. Each bell was printed in PETG with removable spacers so I could adju...

Blasting 90s K5LA Train Horn on New Years Eve!!
I bet you are giggling like child while making this video! I know I am 😂
I was the one at the valve 🤣
Amtrak has these on their GE P30CH (pooch) locomotives i'm not sure if they were running at the same time as the F40PH though i think those came out a few years later as well as the K5LA but some had p5 old cast and one had a RS5T (AMPK 292) and one had a M5 (AMPK 345)
This might be the best K5LA I've ever heard. What a beautiful corker.
That is a beautiful K5LA !! Love the sound of it . The K5LA is one of my favorites.
I'm a big fan of amtrack I love other horns too😊
Insane
This is near BC Rail levels of perfect. And having studied numerous Sandcast K5Hs I can say this little hack of yours makes this Tagless sound impeccable.
Sheesh
oh my
Geez that timbre is amazing! Super smooth. You running a longer airline that’s more regulated or is it just that good?
It's just that good. Same exact air setup as every other video on my channel, but the cold temperature does help mellow it out. I'm still trying to figure out why it sounds so damn smooth lol
This is one of the best K5LA's i've heard in awhile. Corker K5's are the goat
What a beautiful voice! Very nice to hear her singing again!
Fantastic! Was it rebuilt? It sounds good
Yeah, needed extensive remachining and new backcaps because the previous owner trashed it
that’s unfortunate. It now has a lovely voice. Sounds like amtraks glory days
The beginning half is a summary of why love static horn tests in colder temperatures.
Older K5LA’s are the best…
Hello
Hello
Avarge mbta train sim Roblox Doppler effect be like💀
Awesome k3LA
Now you gotta 3D print a K5LA with the same chord lol
Going to be testing the viability of a 3D printed 4a prototype soon
I’m looking forward too it 🫡🙌🏿
What would be the RS5T soundalike?
S3L, but simplified. Not my words, the words from the guy that made the “Locomotive Horns In Ten Words Or Less” video.
Happy New year! Can’t wait to hear more horns from you. Keep it up!
Happy New Year 2025, that kicks ass!!!! All aboard!!!!
Woahhhhh love that horn
Heavenly sound! 😮
Very nice!
That leslie RS4T is a beautiful sounding horn. The first 3 bells of it is the leslie S3K with #55 bell added. I guess that the chord is a D minor 7th .
yeah that'd scare the piss out of other drivers
think my neighbors would object?
Man That's why horn testing should be done in remote locations
Would 3d printing the diffuser rings work? I have been trying to make my own but cutting them perfect is the difficult part. This Leslie sounds perfect! I have a RS5T but doesn’t sound anything like this! Sounds terrible lol.
It might be possible although I’ve never messed with them so I’m not sure how they go in lol. Do you have a video of it?
Sounds great I also like the K1L13 sounds similar.
Any more horn ideas for the 3d printer? How did the longest bells fit inside the printer when being created? Sounds awesome and looks just like an old cast p5.
I have a bunch of ideas that I want to make eventually. The longer bells had to be printed in multiple pieces and epoxied together, if you look close you can see the rings of glue around some of the bell midsections. The power chambers were also printed separately because they had to be printed in the opposite orientation of the bells
@ Nice work 👍🏼
Sounds really nice and musical. What part is 3d printed?
The whole thing is 3d printed, minus the bolts and diaphragms
@ That’s insane, I remember asking someone if they could make some 3d printed back caps or parts for the horn but the person said it would break from air vibration and pressure. What type of 3d printer did you use?
@@TracksideTyson Bambu lab P1S. And nope, handles the vibrations just fine. Bells are all 100% infill, manifold is 50% infill with 7 wall loops.
Would putting double diaphragms in the power chambers eliminate the squeak? I ask because if so, I wouldn’t be able to tell the sound of this horn apart from an actual M5! I really wish Nathan Airchime made the P5s like this, it’s officially become my favorite P horn.
In my experience running double diaphragms slightly increases the squeakiness. But thank you! It’s one of my new favorite configurations now
@@SuperTyfonator Im printing the Open Tone 5 horn 3d model. Please what material are you using for diaphragms? Thanks.
@@mikeoc5763 I'm using actual Nathan P diaphragms, I don't think plastic diaphragms would work very well. I'm honestly not sure what the open tone uses.
@@SuperTyfonator The Open Tone power section is a different design, tuneable but very low power output. I used a TPU diaphragm. It works but....... I'm looking for a prototype chime to model and print. Cool stuff, thanks for posting.
It sounds like a lowered K5LA
It pretty much is. I can confirm that because I play around with a synthesizer app on my phone. I made a K5LA, then played with the pitch, and when I lowered the pitch, I noticed it sounded EXACTLY like a Nathan M5.
You are correct! The notes/intervals are all exactly the same but transposed down a couple half steps similar to an M5.
What a harsh sounding chord, man I love the RS5T. Without question the greatest train horn ever.
Wow! That’s beautiful! I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to distinguish between this and a Nathan Airchime horn.
It has a very mellow sound🚂
Honestly, I think that we could use the 3D printed parts to make a mold and then cast the parts in metal like the OGs.
It's definitely possible, just waiting for someone with the equipment and know-how to get on that, lol
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Glad there's still horn honking nowadays. Most of the videos that I saw were 10 to 15 years old.
Lo mejor de lo mejor 👍
Awesome sounding horn! Ive got a question, do you still have the exact CAD file you used for that? Im a machinist with limited 3d programs and would kinda like to give this a try in actual aluminum.
That would be awesome to see! I do have it although the position of the dowel pin is incorrect. I'll see if I can change that since I've been meaning to do it anyway. I got the original file here: grabcad.com/library/leslie-controls-supertyfon-series-1
YOOOO that RS5T effen _vaporizes_ the air!!
Lovely sounding horn! Pretty cool that you were able to 3D print a bell. Are the Leslie bells able to be printed by anyone now that they don’t really exist anymore aside from Hornblasters?
If you have the models then I can’t see anyone stopping you. I got that model off grabcad
@@SuperTyfonatorCool! I hope we can get models of the Nathan bells eventually. I remember you saying the P horn designs were taken down by the creator for legal issues.
This is one badass RS5T! Nice work!
This is such a cool project! Can’t wait to see more 3D printed experiments!
More in the works, stay tuned!
That sounds incredible!
Thanks dude!
So this is what it would've sounded like if the LV never discontinued their passenger trains...
They probably would’ve gotten K5LA’s if they were around today
