Welcome to Mr. J’s Channel. This site is all about the projects happening in the workshop.
You will see a lot of laser engraving, but it’s not uncommon to find woodwork, metal fabrication and aviation-related projects like building an experimental aircraft in the workshop. You can expect encouragement and sometimes, entertainment. The goal is to encourage you to create and venture out to grow your own business or hobby.

Have a great time! ❣️
Love the info about Osh Kosh and the info on the customized bugs there! I don’t remember hearing about those before. Looks like they have a lot going on there. I knew about the camping under airplane wings but wow, it looks like an airplane trailer park! Have a great time and be safe!
Wow! I had no idea they did the awesome fireworks show! Amazing, thank you for sharing this! Hope you guys are having a great time! ✈️
Have a nice time in Oshkosh I hope you find many parts for your 701 👍
Thanks
Wow, this would be a great 15 minute video on how to create wood lettering. Very nice work! ❣️
@@karoleenascottage thanks Johni, This year the signs have been very popular for different designs for kids bedrooms personal gifts, housewarming gifts and special occasions. I am thinking about making a sign here for the shop using a lot of your crafty tips that you have on your UA-cam channel. I will be cheating and using my laser. I really love your hand craft items. Thank you for your kind words. Can’t wait to see your next crafty UA-cam episode,
This is amazing! It’s fun to watch that get created!
Glad I watched the infamous blob episode! Not funny to have this happen, but I did chuckle thinking of your face when you walked in your workshop and saw the blob being formed. Very good demo and explanation of how you cleaned the nozzle and got it working again. I think your videos are great and are probably a great resource for the 3-D printer community.
Hi Jaime, love your videos! Could you do a video demonstrating a “how to” for making a dip stick knob on the Bambu? I think there might an interest in that kind of video if you have the time. 👍
@@karoleenascottage it’s a good idea. I’ll work on it.
Hi Jaime, nice to see how your 701 is coming along. Great video with good closeups of the details. ❣️
@@karoleenascottage thank you
I’m missing something here. For the letters you are engraving away all the acrylic but leaving the protective coating? The laser doesn’t affect the clear layer? Or is this material have 2 layers - one clear and one opaque?
On color lettering, I use a airbrush to color lettering or use a acrylic paint to do different colors with the lettering
@@MRJSWORKSHOP is that material solid gray or is there a transparent layer?
Yes there is a transparent layer
Thank you very much for the update. Hope your Rotax Motor is running soon!
Thanks
I like your visual height demonstration! Keep pressing forward you will get it mounted.
Yes Sir! One step at a time will get her done!
Looks´like you´re 90% done and have 90% to go 👍. Don't compare yourself to him, the 750s all already have the "match drilled holes" kit, which makes it a lot faster. My wife and I also work on an "old" 701 kit and often wait for orders. But you are already much further along than we are.
Thanks for the encouragement
Really like that flag scheme for the panel! Cool idea!
Thanks
Thank you sir for the tip!
promo sm ☺️
How do you backlight gray? I thought you had to use something like translucent white, then a coat of paint, then engrave. Im really curious about this as Im new but wanting to have a better understanding before some trial runs
Backlighting reversible acrylic I basically just engraved the lettering with no color filling and then you can apply in LED to the back of the panel
Is this supposed to work with IR laser over metal surface? I tried it and it did not cut through the tape. it just dyed my surface blue with the project instead of actually engraving.
So the laser can’t cut out the placard?
No I manually cut the placards
We had such a fun time. We can't wait to fly in to the next one. Thank you, Bill and Dr. Mark for hosting. Bridget had a blast. Build was so fast She left a loose rivet inside!
Always Great seeing guys!! 👍🏻🤠
Great video! Thanks for your hospitality!
Thank you Sebastien you guys are the best.
Co2 laser?
Yes Co2 Laser Epilog 50w fusion
Did you mount the blob on the wall as a reminder? Johni is still laughing. She has a weird sense of humor that way.
Hey good idea, I will mount on the Plaque to remind me of my first adventure in 3-D printing 😂
I haven't had a blob that bad on any of my Bambu printers, but the few times I had any nozzle issues was always PETG and using bad settings for my print or in one case some sketchy wet filament I didn't want to take the time to dry. That said beyond heating it up to melt it off the best method of keeping the nozzle clean I've found is the printable mod which lets you use the A1 nozzle cleaner instead of the little wiper or in combination with the wiper. Ever since I did that I haven't had any trouble with the nozzle not being perfectly clean. Now my elegoo printers had this problem all the damn time, as such I found using my solder station with helping hands to hold the iron and nozzle together so I could use both my hands to use pliers and needles to properly clean was the best method.
Thank you for commenting. This is very helpful to know. I am keeping a close eye on it now to see if there's something I didn't see so far it's working perfectly.
I have no idea what you are doing wrong. I have thousands of hours printing with my x1c p1s and p1p and never had thst happen
Thanks for your comment. I’m happy to hear that you haven’t had this problem. I’ve seen others have the same problem and I thought this would be helpful. There’s many reasons why this could’ve happened. I just hope this is helpful for others that it has happened to.
Great Job! Mr J has done projects for me in the past. Always high quality results. Highly recommend his shop!
Thank you! I was very pleased It is a beautiful finish panel. Keep an eye out I have another Panel in the works.
Nice to see an update from your 701 again. Wish you much success and fun at your workshop in February.
Thank you Jorg
Looking good!
Hey Stan, see you in February!
Enjoyed.
We will be there. If I fly my CH601 in are they going to charge us a landing fee?
Most likely they’re going to charge you I think $35 unless you fill up. 😞
Looking forward to seeing both of you in February!
Looking forward to seeing you also we had so much fun last year building and meeting everyone.
i've seen a video about this foodcoloring lines problem. there are different kind of paints and different kind of masking tapes. If I remember it correctly there is a dry paint that works very wel with masking tape to colour in without the lines. Now finding that dry paint that is also foodsafe is going to be the quest of the day.
Yes you are correct. There’s a lot of products now that allow you to color bamboo little bit more friendlier
Hi! Does this work for single color AND multicolor objects??
Once you have selected the object, it will remove it from the program that is Presley running. So you could continue with the other projects that are still remaining on the plate.
I do not think this is ideal for aircraft panels. You are adding significant thickness to the panel which usually causes trouble for switches etc. for fitment
So far have not had any problem or complaints. Appreciate your input and thoughts.
This the "a-ha!" moment video, great job!
If you seal the bamboo with spray lacquer it will seal the grain and keep the colors from running.
Thanks for idea, I was concerned for food grade if that’s OK
Its printing so good.
Very impressive!!
I purchased a p1p version when it comes to the glue on my plate. I just put the plate under hot water and melt off the glue. and wipe it dry.
will try out sometime@@talkingcrow5316
Very very cool printer yet it is really to small and you may want to look into other larger printers like the QIDI Max 3. I'm in my second year of 3d printing and am loving it! fyi just play around with the printer more and you will find you don't need the glue. I have never used glue to this day and printing is fine you just need to adjust the printer head just right. Also be sure to keep the plate as clean as you can. I always wash the plate off before printing.
Thank you for the comment very helpful 👍🏻🤠
The Aircraft data plate looks really great! 👍
Thank you they come out well.
Do you fill in the data plate with customer information?
Hello, yes I use a stamp machine and place the information in the spaces
The panel looks good and so does the idea of changing the position of your laser often. Will there be a video of the construction of your 701 soon?
Yes, there will be a video on the 701 it has been slow going. Thanks for your comment. Have a great day.
@@MRJSWORKSHOP OK thank you! I'm already looking forward to your next 701 video. My wife Catrin and I are currently building a 701. Yes, things are progressing slowly for us too, but we also took a break for almost 3 months because it was just too hot here in southern Italy. We've been building again for two weeks now. I wish you a nice day too
@@jorgmichalowski7954 that is so encouraging! today i work little on the 701 video and little bit on the 701. Also today I got the material for the instrument panel for project 701. I will try to do one thing everyday. Have a great day.
I'm wondering why you didn't cut the perimeters using the laser instead of all that manual cutting and sanding.
So my laser will not cut metal but I have tried laser cutting the material with other vendors, what are the biggest problem my material has is the coating that melt on the edges went the laser cuts the material. Also try CNC milling but it’s a project on making fixture to hold the material for cutting so basically just stay using the manual tools.
What material are you using? It it painted white first then black over the top?
Material is call DuraBlack. It provided by most engravers suppliers. It’s very similar to your description.
Wow ... I'm glad I stumbled across this video ... I've been searching for ideas on how to re-label the switches and breakers on my vintage Mooney. Is that something you've done before?
I have done a couple of Mooney panels, they were full make overs on the panel. I engrave stencil so I could airbrushed all the lettering. For more ideas on re- label you can check out my website texasprecisionengraving.com and look at the gallery at overlay switches and breakers I have done on other aircraft’s.
Wish you a lot of of luck and success in your new workshop 👍 Hope you will find soon time for your CH 701 project.
Thank you
🥂🌼 Buena Suerte , cuidate mucho, 🌼
Muchas Gracias👍🏻🤠
You can always do a garage paint or epoxy coating for the floor
Thank you for your comment. Yes that is one of the options I really like the epoxy floors but there is a lot of prep work expense and time. Also would like something that is easier to stand on.
Gotcha! I'm trying to figure out the same thing for my basement. I'll probably paint, then use some commercial rubber mats where needed. Good luck! Nice seeing a familiar face from the past. Hope you're doing well.
I’ve been looking at rubberfloors.com also for that idea
Oh, and Steve Wukovitz also says hi!
Give him my regards 👍🏻🤠
Between my 3D printers and laser engraver I basically should own stock in blue painter's tape at this point.
Me also, I have use for all projects 👍🏻
Great video Jaime! And nice demo of the quiet air compressor! We tried to take it home with us too!
😂nice compressor on my list for tools this year👍🏻🤠 thank you !
