Oh please, old trek has Scotty's infamous "I know this ship like the back of my hand..." line. And TNG has Captains day, Picard doing smilie faces in smoke, etc. DS9 has a entire episode which is about a baseball game. Voyageur, the black and white holodeck episode thats a spoof on the likes of Flash Gordon. SNW isn't doing anything old Trek wouldn't have done in the past... =_=
@ None of those involve an entire episode dedicated to a mediocre musical and makes klingons look like absolute idiots from an early 2000s boyband to appeal to prepubescent teens though. It went from Q'plah to patakh real quick
@@AngelEmfrblI guarantee you the exact same group of people complaining about this now would be complaining too if DS9 had a musical episode and SNW a baseball episode instead lmao these people are just incredibly silly
@@ubiquitousphilanthropistv281 The story explained the Klingons were trying to prevent the very thing they ended up doing. The musical was based upon Earth musical culture, and they were suffering from their warriors making dishonourable dances and songs. They wanted the event ended any way possible to avoid further humiliation. And to be fair, the song wasn't their fault - Pike opened a channel and got them hooked in. the other songs were meant to sound awkward, characters were being pulled against their will to do things they didn't want to do. the entire thing is set up on purpose to be cringey, because they wanted the audience to feel what the characters were going through. A lot of this is explained on the series discs. The Klingon's song was "we have 30 seconds, can only do it once, we need people to remember it". The episode is just a one-off they did for fun, but they applied a lot of in-universe logic to it. They knew there would be characters like Pike not being happy with the event and in-universe would want the entire thing over and done with. Compare it to "The Trouble with Tribbles" where kirk was getting more and more fed up with the Tribbles by the end of the episode. And to be fair, when the Klingons are singing, watch the expressions of the crew on board the Enterprise, Pike's slow turn to the audience... Thats what the audience is thinking at the time.
Yeah, it's exactly something that fits in with Star Trek, if you haven't been paying attention. Trek has always had fun with it's concept, it's honestly amazing it's taken *this long* to have a musical episode
@@VegetaLF7Yeah but it's not star trek. It's just people in costumes singing mediocrely. If you want musicals and ponies pooping rainbows, go watch disney
They had no control over what they were left singing. In fact, the point of the Klingons in this episode is the event going on is causing their race to experience dishonour via singing. Their singing genres that are to them Unklingon-like. They stated in the episode. Meanwhile out of universe, the creators stated they said they'd only get away with this once in the franchise and wanted it to be rememberable. If they had sung Klingon Opera we'd not remember it.
@@tomascernak6112 The behind the scenes stuff on the net and DVD commentary helps understand. To be fair, look at the Enterprise crews reactions; thats a reflection of what the audience feels. That pause with Pike looking a the camera? Thats a reaction done on purpose to say "yeah, that just happened". they were pretty self-aware about the entire episode. Edit: Also, the clip cuts the bits out important to this scene. The crew was getting fed up with breaking into song just over expressing any personnel feelings towards anyone else. They were all tired of tiptoeing around that no one on board wanted to keep singing. They figured out that the only way to get the universe event going on to end... Was to to start what every musical has; a Grand Finale. They managed to get everyone on the Enterprise involved, but it wasn't quite enough. Seeing the Klingons were close by, they hailed them. This meant they had 3 Klingon ships now trapped in their Grand Finale. So not only was everyone on the Enterprise involved on every deck (though we don't see that sadly), the Klingons were doing the Grand finale on their ships too. The Klingons were totally not wanting to sing and dance Earth-like songs (it was based on Earth's musical style afterall) anymore. In short... Pike did a stinker to them. By the end of the song, the Enterprise was actually "dancing" with 3 Klingon ships, which was cool, thats how far the Grand Finale went. But it worked and the event ended. Without context of the episode, a lot of people won't get this scene and why it exists. They were trapped in a alternative realities "laws" where everyone broke into a song and dance if they so much felt/expressed any emotions.
@@VegetaLF7I know just replied to you on someone else's comment, but maybe only with nu-trek. Star Trek just isn't THIS goofy and childish and never has been
This is a one off event in a one off episode that they stated they did because they knew they'd get away with it only once. It does not define ST anymore then the DS9 episode with a baseball or VOY episode based on a parody of Flash Gordon, nor the Captains Day of TNG, etc, etc.
Funny enough, the crew on the Enterprise's reactions are what the audience is thinking! XD Also, the cringe is why they were trying to end the thing causing everyone to sing, Pike especially had had enough of it. They realised they needed one last big finale to end it. Which not everyone was on board with.
Funny thing is despite the hard exterior that they display before the feds, the Klingons probably rather enjoyed that. Its canon that the Klingons have a love for music.
The crew of the USS Enterprise encountered a space anomality that forced them to break out into songs, here you can see it spread to some nearby Klingons.

Star trek is truly dead
If they just didn't do this one episode, I would've said SNW was the best in nu-trek 😢

This was largest BS in that episode. Klingons would definitely sing Klingon opera, not some boyband pop.

Different director, writers, etc.
they should be singing opera
It’s not the singing but rather the choreography that had me on the floor
The reactions from the Enterprise folks just add that extra bit of fun, especially Sam getting into it.
