Headshots in Colorado | Goose Hunt With @PlatteBasinOutdoors
Hunt geese and ducks in Colorado with Wingmen's Todd Helms and the Platte Basin Outdoors outfit. It's a late season hunt with early season temperatures. The hunt starts by closing duck season on a warm water pond loaded with mallards. Then the guys hop into the pit blinds to hammer honkers during two days of field hunting.

I have the core lightweight for top and bottom for next to skin. Would it be practical to wear 330 merino top and bottom on top of the core lights or would that be kind of redundant?

Great review! Question for you, just picked this up in a large and it seems like it’s just a tad tight in the chest to layer under and the sleeves seem a half inch too short. Do these run smaller? Would you recommend sizing up to an XL or Large Tall? (5’11 and 175 for reference) I plan on using this as my outer layer out west.

Have you ever tried to reverse sear ? It’s my favourite way to do steak to make sure the internal temp is perfect before sear, also adds all that smoke flavour. Have the exact same traeger as you and find the sear is hard to get good on it also.

What gauge metal is the big cabinet (Agile 52) made of? Thanks

    • @EastmansHuntingJournals

12 gauge... it’s cold rolled carbon steel which is stronger than standard. Their Fastboxes are 14 gauge.

I’m a new Gundog owner. I love your videos. My Black Lab is 9 weeks old and I’m just observing hunting with a dog. I purchased cornerstone 52+. For my education, why is it okay for your black lab to retrieve the ducks before you give him the command to do so? And is that typical?

What about a seat pad? That is one of the items on a turkey vest that I use every time I go out turkey hunting. I'm looking to switch to a backpack and will probably just attach a seat pad to the pack with some carabineers. Call access is also a bit more convenient with a vest but even then I often just put my pot call in my pocket and diaphragm call in my mouth. Like you, I prefer the backpack for carrying all the gear I use; it just works better than the vest in that regard. Finally, I just end up taking my vest off and detaching my seat pad when I sit down anyway 😁.

In the situation you were in, I wouldn’t have called to them at all until they flew down. But in other situations, I have had no problem calling to a turkey on the roost, not when it is pitch black. Then again, I can think of a couple of times when one was gobbling very early that made a soft yelp, which brought him down too early, and I missed him.
