A quick view of my Lovely RED BMW. Great bike , sorry to be parting with her.
I owned the same bike in Brisbane Queensland Australia back in the early 90s i did a trip around Australia on the bike without any major issues my only issue was with the very soft mag's especially the front wheel the Australian outback roads bent the front wheel rim i had to get the rim rolled in the suburbs
I had one of those in my old Catalina 27. Oh, how I remember that sound - and the vibration. Would rattle everything on the boat including the fillings in your teeth. I eventually repowered with a 2 cylinder Universal. Parts for the Petter were getting hard to find, and that was back in 1995. Before I repowered, however, I did develop a fresh water cooling system for the Petter that used an off engine heat exchanger, a second positive displacement pump and a thermostat. It worked well.

That one needs to be tuned down low. Holy crab you were slamming that into gear again a high rpm. I’m guessing because it wouldn’t idle.

How have you got your wet exhaust set up?
I have one of these engines in my sailboat and the head has corroded from the raw water. Do you know if I can purchase replacement head and gasket for this engine?
No- Petters have never sold a replacement head. The castings are available on ebay etc. , but do not include the air-cell that was originally cast in with the head. I don't know if its possible to retrofit a cell. If you do decide to get a casting, and fit the valve guides etc. yourself- then I do have an old air cell that I chopped out of an old head that may assist- however it is often not worth the expense

hii can you explain the fuel system, where it runs and is there a diesel return to the tank. I need to run a new tank temporarily as the old one has bad diesel in it. Can you give me some hints and tips?
