Having lived in Melbourne, Adelaide and now Brisbane they all have their unique charm, I certainly think Adelaide is under funded at number 5. Queensland is by far the best State we have lived in for the weather with 300 days of sunshine.

Best places to live in Australia? Anywhere north, south, west of Sydney that's not a city. Better still an hour south of Sydney between the Pacific ocean and subtropical rainforest covered mountains in Wollongong. No suburb is more than 10 minutes from long surf beaches or 20 minutes up the mountain for mountain and trail bike riding or just getting yourself lost in another world in the bush or rainforest. Close enough to Sydney to be just up the road but far enough from Sydney to be far enough away from Sydney. What you see of Sydney on videos is definitely not Sydney you see when you live there. Most of the time you'll be stuck in endless traffic ques or have to work 4 jobs to pay for the toll cost of saving 10 minutes on the most expensive toll fares on the most poorly planned toll road system in the world. To get from the western suburbs into the Sydney seen in videos is about 4 or 5 different toll roads/charges at around $18 each (4×$18 one way, 8×$18 return minimum). Or you can always avoid the tolls and take 3 hours to drive 40k's if you like.
