What gives riders a scare when they get the bike up to the balance point is what the suspension does. When you're sitting on the bike it presses it down. When nearing the balance point the bike is no longer being pressed down- the shock then pushes the back wheel forward. Which gives us 'going to go over backwards feeling'. And rightly so it's physics. You've got to get to that point and train your brain to lightly press the rear brake. You're doing some good wheelies!!! Work on steadying the throttle and a quick flick of the wrist closing the throttle a tab and click up another gear. You're doing great !!!

Which gear are you using? Bring the clutch lever in close enough to use only your index finger to 'bark' the bike up.

Tip from a nearly 65 year old guy who has taught a lot of others to ride wheelies. You're doing the fast ''on off -on off' throttle input thing- which maxes out your brain. Reach inward on the grip a bit and lightly hold onto the throttle assembly with your thumb and index finger. This will steady your throttle hand giving your brain time to think more clearly. Practice until you get a feel for rolling/controlling the throttle with your middle/ring/pinky/palm. I slowly gravitated to using only my thumb to steady my hand. You will see immediate improvement with this more smooth throttle input. Practice keeping the throttle open and using the rear brake- practice the light touch to push the front down. Very light touch with the rear brake is all you need. Mentally train yourself that no matter what -even if the wheelie is so grinding your back fender off you're going to close the throttle and push the rear brake. Bailing off is not an option. After 2-3 practice attempts stop and mentally review what you think is going on. Doing one wheelie after another after another without reflecting -wears you out mentally. Is there a reason you're practicing on gravel rather than grass/dirt? Best luck bro- hang in there- following along !!!!

Thanks for putting this video up mate. Brother in law was on the Gas Gas 700 that Sam ran against and I was on the other one. Was a fun event. That bloody gen set pissed us off as well!! Thanks to Sam for the yarns over a few beers too on Saturday night. Meant to give him a ride on my 700 on the Sunday but I guess we were all a bit busy. Next time... Cheers!

Well done, it’s 90% gating for sure. Great hole shot in the final. Just shows the difference in a $5k motor and $25k motor though doesn’t it, old mate must have an extra 20hp over the field.
