      Hi Ruby, we would suggest speaking to a teacher or careers adviser at your school about this to offer you the best support in this decision. We would also recommend considering whether you are ready to enter the world of work, earning and learning at the same time if you were to do an apprenticeship. If you have a future career in mind, will A Levels or an apprenticeship be better suited to help you achieve this? We also recommend visiting the Next Steps platform which offers support specifically for year 11 students. Check it out here: nextsteps.aimhigherwm.ac.uk/

      Hi there, if you wish to study Law at university, your choices at A Level are quite broad. While you don't have to have studied Law at A Level, if your college/sixth form offers this, we would recommend Law as one of your choices. Other subjects which would be a good choice would be essay-based A Levels, such as History and English. For more help on this, check out this guide: www.theuniguide.co.uk/advice/a-level-choices/what-a-levels-do-you-need-to-study-law#essentialAlevelsforlaw

I was thinking of going to college to study graphics and design but they told me that you have to choose 3 subjects but I really dont know which others to choose that could help with graphic and design (or art). Also I was wondering, they told me to start doing requests to colleges now but I still havent done my GCSEs so I'm a bit confused, should I send them my last grades from year 10? I have so many questions and im trying to understand which one is best for me I hope I wont regret it

      Hi there, we would suggest speaking to a teacher at your school about this to receive the most accurate information. Usually, you will apply to further education (college or sixth form) in year 11. It is also true that when attending college or sixth form you can choose up to 3 A Levels. You could study other subjects which you enjoy or subjects which relate to Graphics and Design, such as Photography or Art. We hope this helps!

      @@user-hi2cj5mo5g Sixth form generally can offer more support from teachers, for example they may work more closely with you to help you reach your potential, make sure you are meeting deadlines and check in with you more regularly. In comparison, college can offer more independence and requires you to be more self motivated. Teachers will also expect you to hand in work on time without them checking in with you first. This is discussed at 1:50 in the video.

    I think college and university are the same. So I think we should go back to the old education system and keep college and university at 18 years old in the academic year and stay at sixth from 16 to 18 years old in the academic year. In England, students have the option to do sixth form or college, but in Ireland, students must do sixth form. Either they should make both countries do sixth form or give them both the option of sixth form or college.

      Ireland and the UK are two different countries, which explains why their education systems are different. Post-16 education in other European countries is different again. Having studied in four European countries, including the Republic of Ireland and the UK, I think there are many different ways to run post-16 education successfully, no need to make every country the same!

      @@patriciaprieto2917 you're right But since education is something that people are getting from different countries around the world so it would be easier to understand if every country's education system is the same. For me I think that the system in the UK is better where College comes in the middle of school and uni. Some other countries has the same system (16 year's in school then 2 year's in College then 4 year's in uni). In the US even if the college and university are the same thing, college is used more. And they call year 11 and 12th as school level only. I think this make's more sense to keep 11 and 12th as College since the education level changes after secondary school (10th grade). And the word's "College" and "university" are different so the meaning of it should be different too. That's just what I think. I'm not forcing my opinion

      Hi Ishleen, we're glad you've found this video helpful! To become a doctor, both sixth form and college would be suitable. However, what is important is the A Levels you choose to study. You must study A Level Biology and Chemistry to be accepted into medical school, as well as a third A Level of your choice. Hi Sshirzz, BTEC stands for Business and Technology Education Council. These are more specialist, work related qualifications, combining practical learning with subject and theory content as well. BTECs are usually assessed by coursework and practical assessments rather than examinations. BTECs can start at different levels depending on your skills and previous educational experience. A Level stands for advanced level qualifications. These are subject based qualifications that can lead to university, further study, training or work. You can usually study 3-4 A Levels over 2 years, and you are assessed through examinations and coursework. They involve independent study, classroom based teaching, and entry requirements normally include 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4. I’m moving to uk but I’m 16(it’s gonna be 17 the coming year) But my school results are not accepted by the college or sixth form cuz they want a gcse one I don’t know if I should take one year gcse or whatsoever I’m struggling

      I was in the exact same situation as you and because I didn't have anyone to guide me I ended up losing a whole year. If you want to stay in education and possibly go to uni, please do your gcses first. Anything else at this point is a waste of time (talking of experience of more than 20 immigrant friends) try to find a place which lets you do more than just English and maths gcse. (I found a college that did 5 and I got all 9s and for my a levels I stayed in the same college and they ley me do 1 more alongside my a levels) this is because some colleges want you to have at least 5 gcses. Good luck and feel free to message me if you have any more confusion

      Oh btw the number of gcses you nees also depends on the subject you wanna take for uni and the university itself

      @@yongmag3585 heyy first search thid on the Internet: GCSE program in college/for 16+. And the name of your city Then check the college websites and find the one that's most appropriate for you. They most probably have an online application form but if they don't just go to the college and apply in person (they deffo have the online thingie) Also for post 16 GCSE course is 99% likely to be 1 year. I did it for one year but I know someone who is doing more gcses (around 10) but should do it in 2 years. Also you're welcome I know how confusing it can be when you move to the uk at this age so feel free to message me more xx

    so, question. my school says they require a grade 4 for sixth form (entry requirement) but then for science/maths it says you require a grade 7. how does this work?

    • @laconic9575
      @laconic9575 3 роки тому

      Hi, The grade 4 in subjects is the minimum grade to actually get into sixth form and that’s the requirement for most subjects But some subjects like maths and science want you to get higher than that (as they are typically quite hard and more academically inclined I think) I hope that makes sense :)

    If you’re moving to the uk, is there one better than the other?

    • @AimhigherWM
      @AimhigherWM 3 роки тому

      Hi Katherine! Choosing college or sixth form is a personal choice based on each individual, rather than one option being 'better' than the other. The best option for you may not be the best option for someone else. Sixth form and college are of equal value here in the UK and one is not favoured over the other.
