Brain Drain is here to stay || Saint Lucia
In this video I explore my personal reasons for returning to Saint Lucia after my studies and explore the downside to that decision. Saint Lucian and by extension Caribbean culture usually encourages young people to leave their Caribbean island if it is they want a "better" life. I explore the reasons behind this culture and why I agree to a certain extent.

I delve into each segment and what is missing from the segment, what is wrong or what could be better. This comes from my hope for a more female development centred show. Enjoy ! As a member of the Pageant Pinez community, I want to commend you for creating that video and sharing your truth. However, I would be remiss not to touch on a few points you made, offering some insights where I agree and disagree. 1-No offense intended, but you mentioned that you've only participated in one pageant-Miss SJC Princess. How long ago was that? I believe the quality of pageants has significantly improved since then. Additionally, while you may not have intended to sound boastful, the frequent use of "I" in your video could come across that way, depending on how viewers interpret it. 2-I agree with the fundamental points you made in the video. However, I believe that the girls don't necessarily need to be humanitarians to participate in the show. Humanitarianism doesn’t always equate to working with a charity; many of these girls are actively involved in their communities and have engaged in volunteerism in various ways. 3-Some of what you said seemed based on hearsay, with a lot of assumptions and opinions-which you are, of course, entitled to. However, the part where you mentioned reaching out to the carnival pageant committee and not receiving a response, leading to your video, sounded somewhat entitled and privileged. It's important to check that privilege. 4-Your comment about the pageant being a mockery of the girls, implying it’s the committee’s fault, stood out to me. The committee can't control or dictate how the public perceives or reacts. Memes have long been a part of carnival culture and will likely continue, especially with larger audiences and advances in technology. 5-Regarding the quality of women, there are established standards and requirements for the pageant. Each contestant must have at least five CSEC passes, including English and Math, so the girls are indeed educated. Additionally, I found it disrespectful to refer to some of the girls as "fillers." Every contestant auditioned and was fairly judged to earn their spot on coronation night. 6-I don't believe there are too many pageants on the island. These events are crucial for developing young ladies, providing them with experience, and better preparing them for nationals. Community pageants like Miss Teens and Miss District Highs offer valuable opportunities for growth. While there's always room for improvement in quality, these smaller steps are essential in developing our young women. Again, your choice of words-saying the girls are coming on stage to "give garbage"-was harsh. 7-I completely agree with you on the importance of good chaperones and teams for the contestants. A strong team can make or break a contestant's experience. I also share your concerns about favoritism and the need for qualified judges. However, there have been recent improvements in the judging process, with rotating judges for different segments to match their expertise. 8-You mentioned that you don't have experience organizing a show of such magnitude but criticized the lack of guidance for the girls. How many young ladies do you know who have participated in Queen Show and gone on to become prominent figures in society? Are you aware of the rigorous training and workshops these contestants undergo? 9-It's important to distinguish between runway modeling and pageant modeling, as they are not the same. While you may have experience in modeling, the techniques you teach for runway modeling differ from those needed for pageantry. While certain aspects like posture and poise can translate, the walk, for example, is different. 10-I agree that some of the costumes have become a bit mediocre, but I don't think we should eliminate the segment entirely. Instead, we should allocate more time to prepare something truly spectacular. 11-I don't believe the questions asked during the pageant are too generic. Perhaps they could be structured differently, but I don't think the content itself is the issue. For example, while you may think the queens might struggle with a question on crime, there have been instances where a queen's recommendations have influenced parliamentary discussions or led to policy changes. 12- In conclusion, I think it would benefit you to have conversations with those actively involved in pageantry to gain a better understanding of the criteria for each segment, rather than focusing solely on what you would like to see. Getting more involved in the pageant world, rather than just watching online or occasionally in person, could broaden your knowledge. Especially since your experience dates back to 2014/2015, a time when the pageant landscape has evolved considerably.

    • @jzvf_758
      @jzvf_758 14 днів тому

      The comment is an over exaggeration used to get a point across. The point being that the routines are fairly simple and don't showcase competent modeling skills you would get from participating in a pageant.

  • @lucianemperor
    @lucianemperor 14 днів тому

    I think it's a mix..while there are questions that may be better I don't think that asking a young person " how do you think we can curb crime?" is a stupid question or " if you were Prime Minister for 1 day what would you do or change?". The biggest issue with the interview segment is - the team taking time to understand the value that the interview segment adds to the contestant's ability and that is a struggle very often.

    • @jzvf_758
      @jzvf_758 14 днів тому

      The question " if you were prime minister for one day what would you do or change" is inherently structured badly and makes it a stupid question. It is impossible to do anything of value that is going to strike change in ONE day and that's what makes it an illogical question. " If given the opportunity to be the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia what is one thing you would hope to work on to improve the nation" is a better structured question. On the other hand , with the crime issue I believe it's too complex a social issue to be able to dissect answering one question. By no means am i saying it isn't something our young ladies should be thinking about, but the nature of answering these questions limits your ability to properly analyze the questions and give a well thought out response. Since we focus on giving concise responses in a pageant.

    thank you for sharing this video. i partciapted in the parade of the bands both this year and last year with two the major bands in saint lucia. i must say, that i enjoyed the parties more than the road experience! i believed that the quality of the costume wasnt the best, the food was good but that wait time was long and the drinks were not as good. also, i believe that the costumes are skimpy which reveals the genitals of women way too often if they dont cover up themselves properly beofre they head out on the road on carnival monday. but like i said to myself, that next year will be my last time participating in the parade of the bands because of the outcome of it over the years. the vibes this year was missing something, something was just off and i didn't get that "authentic lucian experience" this year.

    I can see how after being a part of carnival from a little kid it can get disheartening to hear and experience some of the things that you said! For me I love carnival as well and I haven't experienced stlucia carnival in a costume especially because growing up I heard the whole panty and bra on the road statement making the experience sound like it was such an indecent thing to do ! Yet here you describe it as being way more amazing in that time ! I have experienced carnival in America after I decided to put to bed the entire panty and bra thing in my head! I just believe that the experience varies based on the band that you chose(in stlucia) from my observation of carnival every year! It also varies based on the people you experience it with! I am married with daughters and I believe it's how you upbring your kids is how they will view these things! In carnival there are different choices based on the costume you can get! You don't have to get the string or skimpy panty or wire bra if you don't agree with the look ! There are many more decent options in costumes to chose from! I don't agree with the dry humping! That's one thing I don't like ! I attended a carnival convention and with the increase in materials and all the work that goes into construction of costumes I understand the reasons behind some of these prices ! Again it is based on the band you chose! I believe that carnival is the one time you can free up yourself and let all your stress out and revel together with people! For me carnival is such a spiritual experience! So I believe if you stop doing it based on all the reasons stated and people stopped as well , who will be left to try to influence in changing it back to the experience you once knew?

    • @jzvf_758
      @jzvf_758 Місяць тому

      As stated in the video, my intention is not to discourage anyone from jumping carnival. Everyone is surely entitled to their opinion and experience and as we have seen every year there will never be a lack of women who want to be part of the panty and bra experience. Persons tend to say " well just cover up" but you're covering up yourself to be part of something that is inherently not associated with the modesty that I value. And that begs the question why go to such lengths to then be associated with others who are doing what you are not comfortable with. Until our band leaders and government officials see it necessary to bring back culture into the experience, no amount of alterations persons do to their experience will change the broader picture.

    I jumped this year after a long hiatus and I honestly didn't feel the joy and excitement I once felt in the past. The djs were WACK, the road experience was lacking imagine, I felt more excitement watching last year than I did this year jumping. The band tells you the costumes are custom made so they can't offer refunds yet I received the wrong style and size bra and got a lame ass excuse as to why. Normally I would have a vaval tabanca after jumping but it was not there. You are on point with everything 👏 👌
