I try it yesterday YS 475II, ATER YAS 23 9 YEARS AND YTS 62 6YEARS, about one hour a week, it is easy to play by ear es other saxaphons and it is emazing experience of tone qualiety. I am psychiatrist in Šibenik, Croatia and play saxophones from my 54.y to 63y , and soprano is something wich you realy need to try....playing by ear is the easy way to learn to play, avoid sheet for music if you love thevstructure of you brain!
Thanks this is really helpful!
Use bari souds better
im getting a flute and soprano saxaphone but i wanted clarinet but i found out clarinet is harder then a soprano saxaphone
Gee I'm so grateful to you for telling me all of this. You cured me out of the soprano! Thank you!
Nice video brother!! 🤘🤘
you are amazing! Thank you so much
I couldn't play quieter at my apartment but after watching this video neither
Long ago I played tenor, alto, & soprano professionally in r & b, rock, and jazz groups. I didn't have the discipline to develop my proficiency or sound. Today, many years later, I wanted to try my hand again at the soprano and your video was very helpful and inspiring. I subscribed and will be checking out everything you have to offer, including your music. Thank you for sharing your experience and tips, Nathan. BTW, back in the day - 1970s, I used to jam out constantly to Grover, among others - Mr. Magic was a constant companion. 😊
Kenny G mouthpiece is a vintage model and it totally different from new Dukoff the vintage one with cost you over $1000 usd but new models is only $200 I assume it different material the old one has alot of Tin in to it🥰 So very bright sound
You right
The hyperbolic soundproofing chamber you’re in is so cool 😂
For me I play clarinet normally so I’m thinking to do alto saxophone and this really helps for me!
Preferred the B by a long way, fuller fat sound!
Thank you
Have you tried the new Dukoffs d8 for soprano? They are just awesome. I tried 2 old dukoffs and found the new ones to be much more in tune than the old ones. Even my teacher liked the new ones better. Give it a shot, you might like it.
I'm a multi-instrumentalist I'm thinking about adding saxophone to the list of instruments I play. My only issue is the fact that the instrument is pretty loud. So when I practice I know the neighbors may be bothered by it. Any suggestions?
Yes! This video should help: ua-cam.com/video/ckdK1LKOijI/v-deo.html
Whether Julius Malema is a Pan Africanist or shall be seen as time goes by. In politics all compromised politicians are self exposed as to their change of direction . Whether he is or not and all that l can say he is not like Ebrahim Traore for now. He is rich and getting richer whilst claiming to speak for the poor who getting poorer as he speaks. Traore is fighting and changing lives of the poor whilst his salary is stable and his condition financially is the same. Maybe there are degrees in Pan Africanism. But Malema has played his role to invigorate Pan Africanism in the African youth. .
Totally agree with you on your favorite soprano saxophone players. Another one that has a great tone to immulate is Walter Beasley. It took me a long time to stumble on to him and he sings great too.
"Some saxophone equipment has toxic materials in it...". What are the toxic materials?
Saxophone is not that easy to play. I don't know why everyone thinks it is. It takes a lot of time getting use to dealing with just the reed. Finger control and the list goes on and on. Not to say It's impossible but get ready to put a lot of time into the instrument and by all means, take professional lessons.
excellent excellent advise
I’ve tried all these but my fave has to be Black label from Boston sax shop!
or is it tamber?
not worth the bother changing unless it feels better to you the player. Sound timber is pretty much the same.
Make sure you wet the reeds and be mindful that some reeds come alive after a few days of playing.
Thanks for the video. Do You have a reed geek? it greatly improves every reed, especially at the beginning. Also Try Rico Royal and Rigotti Gold Reeds.
I have a reed geek and it’s great! I’m looking for a reed that works well out of the box though. I’ve been liking Rigotti Gold reeds lately.
@@AllenMusicTalk Thanks for this video. I'm a fan of the Rigotti Gold too but recently I have tried out the Boston Sax Black and Silver boxes. I love the 2.5 in the Silver for tenor and 2 in the Silver for alto. After trying tons of different reeds, I think I have found "the one." The Silver is a bit brighter than the Black box. For tenor, I play on a Jody Jazz Custom Dark 8 mouthpiece and I really like both the darkness and brightness that the Silver gives me. BTW: Love your backing tracks. Did you make them yourself or buy them from somewhere?

I’m a saxophone noob about 7 months in at the tender age of 59 playing tenor. When friends and acquaintances found out that I was pursuing sax, a plethora of their kids altos came out of the closets to offer me a new path.😅 So, by month 3, I added alto to my journey and I enjoy playing both. I am attracted to playing 80s/70s pop and it’s coming along well. I can memorize songs in 3-7 days so I spend most of my time working on rhythm and technique. Although my original idea was to add a bari in a year or two, I have swerved into wanting a soprano…It arrives tomorrow. 😂 I will be following you for more information to help me along my journey. Thank you for providing great and diverse information Allen!
Straight or curved?
I wanna learn the golden clarinet so badly
Saxmute one is good. I have the Japanese brand of that with a line out plug that can be connected to tuner. It’s few hundred dollars, better than to renovate the room to be soundproof
Thanks for sharing! What is the brand name of the one that you have?
@@AllenMusicTalk Best Brass - e-Sax Mute. Cheaper than to make my room soundproof.
I've been watchin this video many times now,,,,,, I still don't get it, I wanna have a ear monitoring earphone, I have a sax mic that I connect to Bose S1Pro+ speaker with my laptop, it wokrs wonderful,,, the thing is I wanna connect my ear monitoring earphone, , how would this audio interface work with it? I would appreciate if you can make another vidoe that s more elaborative.
Between alto sax and soprano sax, which one is easier? Coz i realize that many people under the comment section plays the alto,so what's the difference between a alto sax and a soprano sax thanks.
Thanks for the Video!
You’re welcome!
Here is another video that you can watch after this one! ua-cam.com/video/_W4N-NaCc2k/v-deo.html
And what can I use for a soprano saxophone?
It's a lot harder with soprano saxophone. Other than a vocal booth, I haven't seen a good solution yet.
The strongest point you made here is the mouthpiece does more for you than the actual sax itself and that makes perfect sense
Both sound just as good but B sounds smoother
2:22 okay i understand my sax in in eb but wdym im not playing the same note as everyone ?
you are so good dont stop
Thanks. I just started and from what you say I am blowing too hard. Thanks for the tips. I am going to get your beginner course if i can find it
1998 - I mastered alto sax for 25 years. 2015 - I mastered tenor sax for 9 years. 2015 - I mastered soprano sax after two months with the tenor.
I really think that the pro sax sounded just slightly smoother.
Keep up the good work my young brutha!!!
@Allen, I agree that it’s a fine video; at about 2:15, when talking about posture with a straight neck, you say that your head will have to come forward, but you’re head is pointing down. I’ve heard Joe G at Soprano Planet say that’s where he aims his airstream, but to my eye, you state the opposite of what you’re actually doing. Thanks!
Pointing the head down only restricts the airflow. Thinking of it as moving the head forward does not.
Thanks so much for your video, priceless advises! I have a straight one, find it very smooth compared to my oboe but feels soooo heavy 😝. What is your opinion pls: in the film “Jean Michel Basquiat - Downtown 81” he is waving something like a VERY THIN soprano. Is it a soprano or something called differently? If you Google the name,e of the film you’ll see the instrument on the poster right away. Cheers!
So to start?… doesn’t matter?
As an old tenor and baritone player these are excellent guides. Thoughtfullness aaaaah
Straight talking and I like that. Short and Sharp and no going round and round to say one idea. Keep it up. Its great!
Listen to more Grover! BEST TIP EVER!!!!
I kinda like to sing, but I suck at it and no way I would ever want to have someone listen to my voice. but mostly: singing takes words and one can't really improvise with singing because of it. That's why I'm checking out the sax. I play a little piano and I just jumped into learning music theory and improvising - mostly blues scales since those are (or seem to be) fairly easy. call me odd, but I don't really care that much to play songs. I want to 'just play', ideally. Anyway. nice video. bit of a (small) downer that the notes aren't called the same on the two instruments.
