Littondale: from Cosh to Kilnsey
This bike ride starts at Cosh, a very remote hamlet in the Yorkshire Dales and proceeds down a farm track across The Great Pasture. The rest of the ride is on a narrow tarmac road alongside the River Skirfare in the bottom of a glaciated "U" shaped valley. The road passes through several attractive villages: Halton Gill, Litton, Arncliffe and Hawkswick in order to reach the famous village of Kilnsey.

Thank you Arthur for your video. Beautiful English countryside which I really love. Greetings from Ireland ☘️
Wonderful part of Yorkshire been up to grassington many a time will have a look at that walk thanks for sharing 😊
Littondale is wonderful on a bike at any time of year
Richard Knisely-Marpole has commented (via email) "I enjoyed your video very much and thanks for the photo credits. Only a couple of things to add - the “young woman fighting against the strong current” is my wife, Angela, who has just let the current carry her through and under the obstruction on our way back out, which was an interesting experience!!! The chap swimming is actually at the bottom of the main shaft but he seemed quite happy to go there!" The B&W photos were taken around 1979-82

I always thought that a ~6cwt bell in C would be middle C, so the 5th of Bow rather than the tenor.
Thank you for telling the story so well, and all the photos. This deserves 3x more views than the revelation videos out there. Maybe you should mention a metal page fell out of Neil’s pocket at the campfire ;)

I finally saw a videographer picture. Do you know anything about the filming?
At 20.40 I mention Tree Films of Glasgow whose documentary was later screened on UK national television.
Hmmmmmmmmm, all that expensive travel, equipment, big name explorers, military, and no video? No filming whatever? Seems odd. Great photos no doubt, I can’t get past only photos no video. Or was/is there?

A very complex topic harmonic tuning. I would like to know why prewar heavy Taylor tenors have a distinctive drone about them where as post war Taylor tenors don't.
Have you tried contacting Nigel Taylor directly? for example: www.ringing.info/nigel-taylor/
@@arthurchampion I can't find any contact details for Nigel. My dad was a bell hanger for Whitechapel till 1972 when we moved to Australia.
Taylors bells are now based on the prewar bells. So Taunton has that classic prewar sound.
@@RingerThomas Hello Thomas, where did you get this information from? I have had various discussions with people who like me think the prewar heavy bells sounded amazing, and I don't know why? The fact is tuning is a very complex matter that I do not or pretend to understand, also bell profiles how they affect the quality of sound. My dad had a saying, whitechapel for Trebles and Taylor's for tenors and I think he has a point. Whitechapel bells sound far more shrill than Taylor's,this may or may not be a good thing as sound is very subjective. The Taylor tenors however seem to have much more breath than a Whitechapel tenor of equivalent weight. It begs and interesting question a out bell profiles and is there an optimum profile depending on the sound you want. Here in Aus we have the 5 ton Anzac bell inthe bell tower in Perth,it was cast locally and tuned my Nigel Taylor, he may well have been consulted on the profile, but I think it just sounds so wonderful. I must admit, I do love the drone of those old Taylor tenors, and I think the penultimate example is Yotkminster, there are some videos of Bristol Maximus and I listen to it all the time,I think those 5 back bells are just the best I have ever heard.
@Steven_Rowe Hi Steve, Here's the information on when Taylor changed their tuning profiles and the rings of bells involved: 1. 1920s: Taylor started converting their strickles to true-harmonic tuning gradually. During this period, they worked on: - Sutton on Trent (1922) - Fairfield (1923) - Swindon and Melksham (1924) - Tavistock, Belper, and Norbury (1925) - Worcester (1928/9, replacements for the Grimthorpe bells) - Bideford (1929) 2. 1930s to early 2000s: There was a trend of flattening tierces due to strickle wear. Bells included are: - Boston (1932) - Albury (1935) - Shalford (1936) - Winchester (1937) - Manchester Town Hall (1937, replacements for another Grimthorpe peal) - Bradwell (1938) - Doncaster and St Brides Major (1939) - Valetta St Dominic (1948) - Evesham (1951) - Little Chart and Cambridge St Andrew (1956) - Wolvercote (1957) - Farnham (1959) - Tewkesbury and Northallerton (1962) - Newcastle carillon (1963) - East Retford (1968) - Houston (1971) - Chester (1973) - Durham St Oswald (1976/7) - New Castle Delaware (1981) - Tunstall (1995) - Dorking (1998) - Brielle carillon (1999) 3. 2000 to 2015: Taylors remade the worn strickles, leading to sharper tierces. Bells analyzed in this period include: - Chilcompton (2000-2008) - New York (2006) - Cambridge Great St Mary (2009) - Worcester Old St Martin and Cornhill (2011) - Guildford St Nicolas (2013) 4. 2017 and beyond: Recent peals show much sharper tierces as Taylors are now using designs from the early 1900s again. Examples include: - Bampton, Godalming, and Ypres (2017) - Grappenhall (2019) These changes in tuning profiles over the years explain the evolution in the sound of Taylor bells. Here is where I got this information from: www.hibberts.co.uk/a-history-of-taylors-in-bell-sounds/
Please let me know if you find anything factually incorrect in this video. “It’s a work in progress”
This is a rare treasure of the internet. The skills of Mr. Taylor are of extreme importance to keep alive, thank you for sharing this.
Hey Arthur, thank you so much for sharing your story about your expedition to la Cueva de los Tayos. It was incredibly interesting to hear about the expedition from someone who was there, especially given the mythos around all of this. My partner actually does caving expeditions in Ecuador and Brazil, she has made some pretty incredible discoveries doing these things. She is currently looking to get an expedition together to go to Cueva de los Tayos, and is currently working on securing funding. If possible is there a way we could set something up for her to be able to speak to you? I know that she would love the opportunity to talk to someone who has already been to the cave and especially someone who was on the expedition with Neil Armstong.

Hello Stefan, the 1976 expedition was hosted by Ecuador’s government. Logistical support was given by Ecuador’s military including special forces. Archeology was led by Ecuador’s own scientists. Why and how would these people allow anything of value to be removed??? Go on, please explain if you have any evidence...
@@arthurchampion there is always one fella
So did they find something?
Previously unexplored passages in an impressive cave system (completely natural). Many species of plants and insects that were new to science. Pottery and sea shells (at 30 mins) which were of sufficient interest for Neil Armstrong to fly down from Cincinnati for brief visit.
im from ecuador cuenca and im very dissatisfied about this whole video... i know for a fact its a very special place as sometimes i have dreams from my ancestors so you might as well just not disrespect them like this. very waste of time watching this i wish you would of made some more clear provisions but whatever the information will see the light soon i know it.

You have nothing
Champion . I don care if you don't know me but I have more information more than you because I was an investigator years before that expedition and since my visit to the cave in that date I got more knowledge about the truth more that the official comunication. I tell you only one thing you were working for the dark elite who are in control of all of this and you had to obey what they told you to do. When I was in the area of the cave and I tryied to do some questions to someone of the members of that group of important people of expedition they didn't tell me anything about my questions and they don't allow me to stay in their campament. All was under control. I know why and know there are more information about other caves all over the planet earth. Ok. I'l be contact to let you know. Good bye champion..
I' have evidences of my colaboration in the Tayos and enterviews with my coworkers archeologist and an anthropologist that is talking what real happened in this expedition
Sorry Champion. But I don't remember you neither. .
Hello. Well this is your story but there is an hidden truth. I was one of the witness of this expedition I was in the group of archeologists of the Catholic University that we were invited to the Tayos cave. We found the items of rests of ceramic and artefacts of nacar shell in the cave. You are saying our discovery it was our job . You are not telling the truth. This expedition was leading for the British and american elite . I spent 2 weeks in Santiago ecuadorian military base in an field work with the british archeologist Presley Norton. We were in the cave one more time. Only 100 meters inside . The British military were controled the entrance of the cave and we are not allow to go inside the cave. I have the testmonies of ecuadorian militaries other ecuadorian scientists natives of the tribe Shuar that they have seen big wood boxes and of metal loading in the helicopters from the cave..All this area was under military control. They found gold artefacts of an ancient civilization The secret is that the elite knows about the caves. Please don't say lies .
Thanks for your interest although I don’t remember you from 1976 or ever seeing your name listed anywhere. Just because you claim to have what you describe as “hidden truth” does not at all invalidate my own experience or description of what happened. These days lots of people claim to have “hidden truth” but they seldom provide any evidence to back it up. Just for the record, Dave Judson and I arrived at Los Tayos on 6th July and escorted Neil Armstrong around the cave on 2nd August. We had a holiday in and around Quito then the British cavers, scientists and military flew home on 14th August. By the way, I do remember Presley Norton the American/Ecuadorean archaeologist and entrepreneur. I understand he was author of “The cave of Los Tallos and science fiction" (1978) for the magazine Artes, Nos. 2-4 of Quito.
@@arthurchampion . Ok Champion . I live in Cuenca actually and I have been getting real information about the story of the Tayos and the famous priest friend of the native trivet od the Shuar community guardians of the Tayos cavern for centuries.. They gave him ancestral knowledge about the Tayos cave and a huge materials of objects of cooper and gold lamins crafted with designs and drawings babylonian and sumerian style . The priest crespi had a museum with all the staff of 5hese items located in the building behind the church of Maria Auxiliadora where he lived . Months later of the famous British Tayos expedition this museum was destroyed under an big fire that all the staff of items of the Tayos cave were lost. There are many information of testimonies of people that know the truth about this enigma of the Tayos cave. I hope to get some testimonies and evidences of what really happened and what was the international interest
Crespi
Is the name of the priest. Very known for the people of Cuenca . In the park of Maria Auxiliadora there is the statue of this priest Crespii.
@@fernandoproano3314 As you may know this video features Presley Norton (2 mins) and Fr Crespi (9 mins) ua-cam.com/video/nph3zgUrMkE/v-deo.html Erich von Daniken's book "The Gold of the Gods" (pages 21-33) also features Fr Crespi. One slight correction, Expedition Los Tayos in 1976 expedition was officially a joint venture between Ecuador and the British with both investing military personnel and scientists. This is the first I've heard about a fire. I have fond memories of the local indigenous people and wish them well.

Omg Arthur, you're such a relic of this planet. Thanks for sharing your account on the matter and for all the hard work you guys must have gone through just to reach the location. Nice to hear you're alive and kicking. First question, do you know who Randall Carlson is? If yes, do you think the Amazon could hold more secrets if it were to be properly explored? Thank you! Greetings from Brazil.
“Relic” has at least three different meanings. Randall Carlson is described here: grahamhancock.com/author/randall-carlson/ I agree the limestone areas of the Andes-Amazon region has potential for more caves to be discovered. However, I do hope future explorers will respect the rights of local people and cherish the natural environment.
