      Composer uses many LIVE metrics and indicators to rebalance my portfolio on a daily basis. These include rsi (Relative Strength Index), moving-average-price, exponential-moving-average-price, cumulative-return, current-price, and more. Backtesting is only a means to come up with algorithms that have a higher likelihood of doing well in the future (as in, greater than 50%).

      Yes, I agree that backtesting does not predict the future and using historical data can lead to issues of an algorithm being overfit. That's why it is important to backtest as far back as possible to lessen this risk. On Composer I often backtest to 2008 or earlier. Also, a good point about today's news. That's why my channel also includes videos about how to wire up AI to news feeds to use news sentiment in trading decisions.

      I don't want to give advice and say that you should do one thing or another. But I can share how I got started. I got started by creating a Robinhood account. Then I learned what swing trading is and how that's different from day trading. And I learned how to use limit orders to purchase stocks at the price that I wanted. How to set a stop loss to make sure I lost at most 4% on any trade. How to use limit orders to set a take profit % and cash out. I wrote down my strategy so that I keep emotion out of it. I learned what support and resistance means. I just searched UA-cam videos and tried to learn as much as possible. I started out with a small amount of money like $100. I just tested things out and learned as I went. Hope that helps.

      Holy VGT is a good one to study. It has what is called a "frontrunner" which looks at various signals and goes to safety in BIL or PSQ when needed. You can find the latest version here: app.composer.trade/symphony/EUR6fv3w7jTqTgQxC4ZL/details At least $200 per symphony is recommended for some of the more complex stuff... not all tickers allow fractional shares. Although with Holy VGT $50 is fine.

    UPDATE: In the video I mention the OOS (out of sample) date being old as only a negative thing. However, there is a situation not shown in the video where an algorithm has performed well beyond the OOS date. And if an algorithm can do that then it is presenting a stronger case that the algorithm is not overfit. An overfit algorithm means that it was tuned only for historical conditions--it was tuned only to maximize performance in a backtest. But if it CONTINUES to perform well beyond the OOS date then this is a very positive sign.

      Yes, you can roll over an investment to another algorithm. But you can only do that once per day, at the end of the trading day, in the last 15 minutes. Also, on a related note, you can liquidate at any time during the trading period. Meaning you can sell everything at any time. With Composer, generally speaking it is an automated rebalancer, so all of my money is "in play" at any given time. Although sometimes it could be in "safety" like BIL. BUT, I do have the ability to manually pull it out into cash that is just sitting in Composer or manually put the money back into play-- I can do this manual operation in three ways: A) sell a part or liquidate all of any symphonies at the end of the trading day, during the "trading period". The trading period meaning the last 15 minutes of the trading day. B) Liquidate symphonies mid-day at any point that the market is open. Liquidations take effect within 5-10 minutes. C) Buy into symphonies at the end of the trading day, again during the trading period.

    This is a very useful way to figure out what’s going on with the AI prompt built in, I like this platform as short term strategy with coding better the I could make/execute myself, surprised you don’t hear about this platform more

    • @trading-smarter-with-ai
      @trading-smarter-with-ai Місяць тому

      I suspect that there are a several reasons we don't hear about this platform more... One is that there are a lot of bad algorithms. So if someone chooses the wrong one(s), they they will have an initial bad taste about this platform. That's why I made this video: ua-cam.com/video/FWP43zjmOHE/v-deo.html Two, while the owners/operators of Composer have great intentions, it does not seem they have marketed the platform super well. Their marketing and specifically their social media presence is sparse. Three, some people see the 900% annualized return that some of these overfit algos have in their backtesting and so it sets an unrealistic expectation. A more realistic target for the Composer platform would be 50% AR. And if we can get 50% AR, remember that there are 252 trading days in a year. So, I'm only going to average about 0.20% per trading day in order to get to my 50% AR. And I'm going to have some green days and red days. But if it averages out to at least 0.20% per trading day then I'll hit my 50%. So, people can become disillusioned at what seems like small daily gains and not see the bigger picture of what it is adding up to. This is why I created a spreadsheet trading journal to track my daily gains/losses so that I can have an eye towards my trending AR.

      @trading-smarter-with-ai Місяць тому

      What do you mean by "custom exposures"? Can you link to the symphonies you are talking about? If the annualized return seems too good to be true, it probably is. In general, the video focuses on some key areas to look at: 1) max drawdown, 2) annualized return 3) backtest as far back as possible 4) look for smooth lines (a lower standard deviation number, which is a metric in the backtest results).

    • @trading-smarter-with-ai
      @trading-smarter-with-ai Місяць тому

    • @trading-smarter-with-ai
      @trading-smarter-with-ai 3 місяці тому

      Yes, it is legit. Check out their LinkedIn page, and posts. Search for news articles. There is also a Discord group with active members. I've emailed their customer service a number of times and they got back to me promptly. I have wondered why it is not more popular. My theory about some of the bad reviews is that people don't know which algorithms to choose... then they choose the wrong ones that are not backtested far enough. Or algorithms that have high max drawdowns that they ultimately are not comfortable with (I made that mistake when I started). Many of the "community" symphonies are not great. As for your other question: Yes, it is possible to let a bot trade automatically with signals. But, it is not perfect. Expect to have 51-60% green days and 40-49% red days. But, some of the green days are REALLY good because the system can read hundreds or thousands of signals in a span of 5 minutes and then rebalance my portfolio. Currently, I am still testing the waters with 8K in cash. I'm 30 days in and so far, so good. I made about $800 off of these bots. So, that's about 10%. And, if that can continue... 10% per month, compounded is a nice annual cumulative return. Much more than I could do if I was trying to read these signals manually and make trades in Robinhood.

    How long before AI trading pushes out manual traders out of the market completely?

    • @trading-smarter-with-ai
      @trading-smarter-with-ai 3 місяці тому

      In my opinion, AI will not push manual traders out of the market. However, not using AI or any kind of automated system or automated strategy will equate to lost opportunity for manual traders. So, maybe a skilled manual trader can still do 40-50% per year in annualized returns. But leveraging AI and automated trading in smart ways will potentially boost those returns double or triple.

      Never!. Ai is using past data. If stock went up 5% on each earnings report in the last 4 years, backtesting will give you positive assurance. But try it today only to find out that today the stock was -17% and the entire U S. Stock market is in panic"!!! Does NVDA ring a bell?

    Oh, fantastic! Another self-proclaimed trading guru ready to unveil the secrets of the universe through ChatGPT 4o and o1-preview. I mean, who knew that algorithms could be so easy to optimize with just a sprinkle of AI magic? 🎩✨ So, you scored a 4.4% increase in annualized return-congratulations! What’s next, a Nobel Prize in finance? And a 0.2% reduction in max drawdown? Wow, groundbreaking stuff! At this rate, you’ll be walking on Wall Street like a god among mere mortals. But wait, there's more! Not only will you learn how to prompt ChatGPT like a pro, but you’ll also be blessed with the ability to adjust algorithm code in real-time. Because clearly, all those years of education and experience are just overrated when you can play coder with an AI assistant. 🎉 And let’s not forget the oh-so-important disclaimer about not taking financial advice from you. How humble! If I had a dollar for every “educational” video that ends up costing people real money, I could probably invest in a real stock trading course. But hey, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for your dose of AI-powered trading wisdom! Because nothing screams "trustworthy advice" like a referral code for a discount. 🙄💰

    In the video I mention getting started with only $50. While this is true, there is a caveat. Some algorithms trade in tickers that do not allow fractional shares. So, in a Discord discussion with other Composer investors it was mentioned that $200-500 per algorithm is better. After reaching out to Composer support, they said the following: I recommend reading our "Minimum to Invest" (help.composer.trade/article/74-minimum-to-invest) article in our Help Center. Composer will alert you if a symphony fails to rebalance due to this or other issues.

      @@trading-smarter-with-ai Yes, I signed up on Composer and spent quite a bit of time on some of the strategies you shared. They were all really good but I wanted to fine tune them further and I wanted to be able to use more indicators than what Composer provided. So, being a SWE, I actually built my own version of Composer on a existing platform that I had. I was able to test probably hundreds of different parameters and many more indicators and came up with several strategies to use. I have been running them live with actual money in several of my accounts for the past month or so. So far things are looking really good. Unfortunately, some of the indicators that I use are not available in Composer - so, I can't provide a link to a strategy there but my core strategy is based on the strategies you shared on here. So, thanks a lot for that.

    Thanks for posting the video. It was fascinating to see that chat gpt could give helpful suggestions from the code and very little information provided by you. What do you think about overfitting the algorithm to the most recent events? How likely is repeat of the same event happening again I.e. 10-point in TQQQ causing future downside?

    • @trading-smarter-with-ai
      @trading-smarter-with-ai 4 місяці тому

      Yes, I do have concerns about overfitting. Although the more time tested and battle tested it is the better. Composer shows an "OOS" date on all the backtested algorithms, meaning out of sample. That's the date that the algorithm last changed. So any events past this date have some risk. In other words, the algorithm by nature is overfitted to prior to OOS. I think it needs to be a continual process of refining and responding to current market conditions. I don't want to go into it blindly and risk a lot of money. I'm not sure how likely it is that we'll have another large spike in the VIX. I do think it is interesting that when I look at VIXY for 1yr the August spike sticks out like a sore thumb. But when I look at the 5yr all I see is the COVID spike. This year's spike looks tiny compared to that. I asked Chat GPT "What is the vix in the stock market? What is it a measure of? What do traders use it for?" and received some very interesting information back!

      @@trading-smarter-with-ai I signed up for Composer and was playing with your TCCC algo. It is interesting that the strategy was not doing well for the first half of 2023. I played around with the reason why and it seems to be due to the SPY crossover (210d EMA over 360d) logic. I modified it a bit and that "fixed" the 2023 issue. However, testing it back to 2020, my updates make the overall returns lower then. I will keep playing with it. It would be cool to have a Discord where we can discuss these things. Let me know if you create one.

      I can't give you any advice on how to get started but I can tell you what I did. What I personally did was set up a Robinhood account, and a composer.trade free trial, and just start experimenting with small dollar amounts. Then I just tried to learn from others and learn from my mistakes.
