The SEA FM Hot 30 Countdown - Tuesday 30th December 1997
This video was recorded on Tuesday 30th December 1997 & The SEA FM Hot 30 Countdown was on the air. Little did I know that this night would become a cherished memory in my radio career.
At just 17, I was juggling multiple responsibilities. Between making pizzas at Eagle Boys Pizza in Umina & refereeing NRL matches across the Central Coast, I somehow found time to pursue my passion for radio.
Instead of enjoying my gap holiday, I'd be in the production studio late at night, learning the intricacies of reel-to-reel production and crafting sweepers for my brother Brenden's local night show. This was a time when radio promos were made on a 16 track tape. Pro Tools & desktop computer editing was five years away.
Thanks to Graeme Crouch, who recorded this in Ian's & David's studio. I was fortunate to have Estelle & her twin sister Danielle sound like hot coasties in the sweepers, adding that local touch I was aiming for.
Also hearing Guy Dobson's voice at the end of the promos. Little did I know then that Guy would become not just my Program Director at 2MMM, but a lifelong mentor.
Just 28 days after this recording, I had made the life changing decision to leave home & was working full-time at Eagle FM & GNFM Goulburn.
