Both are great, I have Noble on order
Have you by chance owned a Khan VTDI and compared it to the noble? The noble seems to be a bit more responsive which is what I’m missing with the Khan. Great video thanks!
@@Gnarledlowend I have not but I have a friend who did. He did sell it though so I’ll ask why.
@@sharnoldpapa7339 thank you!
to my ears, slap sounds better with mids scooped a little bit but with finger style, I like my mids centered or just a bump or two up from center. So, I guess it depends on what you're playing.
@@eknight101 definitely agree. I’ve always struggled with scooping mids just for a slap solo because of the volume change. I’d almost have to have a parametric EQ pedal with another gain stage to even it out so I’ve not fussed with it.
Bass-ically
Thanks

I’m newish to EQ (or just bad at it) and play in a psych metal (ish) band. I’ve been using a DI pedal with an easy little “Color” button on it. After getting the pedal I had about 3 months of people telling me my tone was incredible until suddenly I started to worry that it was too thin and pingy, and got a couple of comments about it. With my eq set to the middle, I turn my treble down a bit and my bass down a bit more and then click the color button (which I think is a mid scoop). Often I’ll click on a distortion and try to turn the bass up a bit to adjust. Not sure how to proceed. I’m afraid to see how things would go if I turned off my beloved color button for a whole show. I know I should form my own opinions but it was the feedback I’d received. One sec my tone was incredible and suddenly I’m worried I’m just bold facing a super weird tone. I think the mid scoop brings out the click clack from my fingers, which is also not great, but we’re pretty rowdy and messy I play a ton of sabbathy lead parts.
@@Eggnog96 best advice I can give is record your gigs and listen back to the mix and adjust. Mids can get harsh too but it takes some trial and error to get it right with a full band.
got the same bass, 2 things that are slightly annoying: strings sound very much differently compared to non-fanned basses. 2nd thing: the stickers do fall apart.. :D Love the bass though. :)
I ordered the Noble for my bday. I just loved the sound. Thank you.
capo is much quieter, please do a loudness normalisation on both units. And because the noble is higly clean unit you shouldn´t compare apples with zucchinis. You tested the capo only in distortion mode, less in the first and much more in the B-side example. So, your comparison is more or less uesless. But the idea is great. Perhaps you decide to do a better made vid?
I’m sure some folks are using the Capo without saturation but likely not many which is why I chose not to go there. The two certainly are apples vs zucchinis but as most of the online community pits these in the “which is the best” contest, I tried to show they are vastly different for that reason, each with a unique place. I’m sure someone more capable will eventually do the in depth A/B. I’m keeping my day job in the meantime lol.
Both are amazing. I think recording I'd take the Noble, for live I'd take the Capo.
Great story about Roger... Love that kind of thing....
The CAPO is great but the Noble just has that harmonic thing going.
I have the dark Rey 4 and have a 5 on order. I love the one I have but the biggest complaint (If you want to call it that) is that having the distortion on board doesn’t afford you the ability to really switch it on/off with precision, mid-song. With a pedal you can accurately switch over but with it on-board, it’s nearly impossible to switch it mid-song while you’re playing.
Disagree
same, mids suck, remove mids from bass and guitar and youve got a good hollow space for the vocals to fit in.
@@ChaseThePinballWizard bro thinks he's in Pantera 💀
@@hiroshikitsun7585 sweet.
Alder/rosewood is a perfect formula, can’t go wrong with that
Great video. The thumb with gold mec are not passive. Is a preamp bypass to get just the natural pickup sound. But you'll need the battery always
whenever i think of the thumb bass, the first player that comes to mind is ryan martinie. the bass part of “death blooms” by mudvayne is insane, and the bass part on “march of the cephalopods” by soften the glare is just nuts. edit: ironically enough, he’s a fodera player now
I have learned over the years playing at different venues is to have a EQ pedal as an always on pedal and make adjustments accordingly. For me 400hz-800hz (low mids) is that sweet spot to make adjustments and anything past 1k frequencies are scooped.
Dude, thanks for this VERY informative video!!!
God bless you bass brother. Amen. We need the mids.
I’ve always been one to have everything in the middle, but here’s my experience: in the church setting, we got 2 large studio amps (anything can run through it, but they’re not geared for anything specially), and neither of them could handle bass or treble alone very well. For a while I’ve been having my middle range knob turned all the way up with bass and treble at 50% and that seems to workout.
Tnx for the demonstration. Around what freq is your mids centered?
800htz
I got my MetroLine three days ago. The bass does have flawless fit and finish if anyone has concerns about the instrument being made in Germany. I like the warmer tonal balance of nickel round wound strings so putting a set of DR Sunbeams on was the only significant change that I made.
Nice
Thank you for the video. This gives a lot better perspective of its versatility. Would love to hear a preamp comparison between your regular EBMM Special and the DarkRay!
I actually sold it because I loved this one so much but I did do this on this one and showed the difference for the single H sound: ua-cam.com/video/iZwO_AmQlxk/v-deo.html
Thanks. I checked out the ending of that video. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that the Dark Glass has more attack and is a bit more bright/transparent than the Special. The special seems to be more round. Would you agree with that assessment? Did you use any of the other pickup positions on the Special or did you generally run it in the bridge? Is there anything you miss about the Special?
great deal. I need luck like that to find one
awesome bass. crisp attach and growls. this bass would be on my list of wannas'

It does!
If you pop the cover open you'll find two trim pots for the drives too. I ended up lowering both drives to level out the volumes between the clean and drives
Darkglass developed the pre amp it's likely a tweaked version of thier tone capsule
Really nice 👍🏻
Valid audio comments. I’m figuring it out a little at a time. I am a weekend warrior so I’m just branching out into videos and strongly believe getting out content (for experience, practice and improvement) far outweighs getting all the bugs worked out from day one. Besides, I’d prefer buying basses to audio interfaces. A room mic won’t capture all the angles for sure but it ain’t horrible either.
Using a room mic instead of direct or a cabinet mic? This does not help know what the bass sounds like at all.
Cant hear a word you are saying.
Very nice demo. Thanks. I am so curious to hear this slapped or with a pick. Would be great to hear if you have time.
Great review. I'm going to get one...
I’m waiting for them to release the black 5ers love all my stingrays!! I just wish the darkyay still had a 3 band instead of the 2 band
I do miss the mid knob but I will say that it still cuts without it.
@@sharnoldpapa7339 oh yea for sure. I’ve never played a classic but they say the 2 band is actually better
Thank you for the review. Thinking about getting one. There better not be any dead spots for $2900. I know that includes tax and shipping, but does it also come with a case?
Yep comes with the EB hard shell case.
Soon all new USA EBMM basses and guitars will included a nice MONO gigbag. The Darkray is a fun bass and very well made. Highly recommend checking them out. If they would make a B7k version, I think it would be an even bigger hit.
@@jacksonvillejared I like that move. My mono gig bag is one of the pieces of gear I’d replace in a heartbeat. It’s a good collaboration.
@@sharnoldpapa7339 They look like nice cases. My mono gig bag gets used the most.
Well I bought one. I got number 64. It had the mm hard case.
Thank you for the video. I am also in Texas. Thinking about getting the darkray 5. God, $2900 is a lot of bread, but I really can't think of anything better to spend it on.
Cool demo! Love my Special 5's. Will definitely try one of these if I ever see one
