    Can you grow hoya in straight TFF permanently in a nursery pot (free draining) in regular house conditions (we have good light/sunblasters and 65% humidity) for years and years? How do you know when to water? Do you let it dry out and change color to light brown (like how you find TFF in the bag when you first buy it and it is dry), or do you keep it moist, but no standing water? I have hoya in 3"pots and let them dry out too much I think and lost a few of the roots on the outer edges of the pot... Thank you for your videos :)

    I think there are better differences rather than leaf patterns: Monstera Thai Cons has tight internodal spacing, Borsigianas (albos, aureas, etc...) has longer internodal spacing. Thais can get huge, Borsigianas are smaller in leaf size. Thais as Deliciosas have ruffles where the leaf attaches to the stems, Borsigianas wont show this trait (some might show in its mature state though). Bosigianas are climbers, Thai Cons they can go either way, climb or crawl.

      It does indeed :) Hence why I added in the text to the video as I didnt realise they had come out with a chunkier version till I edited the video 💚

    Do you let your reservoir dry out before watering again?

    • @GrowingGreenNZ
      @GrowingGreenNZ 4 місяці тому

      Not completely, I usually change the water every 3-4 weeks and it takes a little longer than that for it to dry up :)

    PON (and/or LECA) is the only way I can have Alocasias with more than 1 leaf at a time. I have slowly switched many other plants (Hoya, Schismatoglottis, Homalomena, Monstera, vining Philodendron, Maranta, Calatheas, Stromanthe, Peperomia, and even a few of my snake plants) to semi-hydro, mostly because I find rocky substrates easier to maintain. I really love the product you presented, especially in that it comes in different "pebble" sizes.

      I'm exactly the same as you! I avoided alocasia like the plague until I tried them in Pon!

    I intend to grow my alocasias in pon. They are babies right now in stratum. I have had no luck with alocasias but these have made it over a week 😮 maybe I am onto something. Thanks for the tips 😊

    Hi Rachel. I've recently started using Pon and was fortunate to get a large bag of Lechusa. I decided to add some jumbo perlite as well as small leca just to lighten the weight of the larger pots. Also, I've put wicks in the pots to ensure my mix is taking up the water. So far it's working brilliantly for me, I love not having to deal with the mess that I make with soil and being able to reuse the Pon. I do wish we could get a coarser one in Australia, it may be out there but I haven't found it yet. Thank you so much for sharing your very informative video on Pon, I'm definitely a convert to semi hydro with Pon and even intend to switch a lot of my plants from leca to Pon.

      I love hearing how different people do things! Proves there isn’t a one size fits all approach which a lot of people think there is 💚

    Brilliant! Thanks so much, this is very helpful & confirms what I am doing. I’ve only used pon once & would like to expand my use, especially with Alocasia. I did transfer my Jacquline into pon when it started going dormant, all the leaves have come back miniature? Probably only 5cm high? Has this happened to you?

      Yippie! I'm so glad that this was helpful for you! Surely you're a pro by now... 😂 I have experienced that before and it did take some time for the leaves to grow back larger, maybe this coming spring will help it out a little!

    I started using clear nursery pots and they are a game changer. I still put the nursery pots in my decorative ceramic planters, but I can able to lift the nursery pots out and check on roots and water levels. I can also rotate my decorative pots when I get bored.
