A big ‘ole catch up session in this vlog! Somehow managed to scrape something together with limited footage. And in classic Van fashion, only vlogging when I’m back at home and not when I’m out actually doing things and traveling. I’ve been going to the studio a lot lately, and it’s definitely ups and downs. This week I really captured the downs, which hopefully I’ll be glad I caught on video because there won’t be any more of that (right??). Anyways, enjoy my ceramics fails. Also, I went to the workout class again this week and I’m extremely sore. music 🎵 WABI SABI - snowflake - thmatc.co/?l=0202AB95 Naomi - Candy - thm...

Aoarashi is one of my favourite Matchas' from Marukyu. Glad to see no Matcha was wasted :P Looked good! I would suggest boiling the water and leaving it for 5-10 minutes as boiling water can make the matcha flavour more bitter than intended. The chasen naoshi (whisk holder) is also good for ensuring your chasen remains in the same shape. So very important to keep it on there to dry out!
i really loved this video <3
Really enjoyed this vlog! You all looked you had fun.. and the fooood OMG. It was a mistake watching this vlog while waiting for lunch. 😂
I have ummon from ippodo. Is that matcha better?
ummon is waaaay better but more expensive
I don't think I've tried ummon but have had some matcha from ippodo before - they're good! But like you said, pretty expensive so I have never bought regularly from them
FIND THE RING! THE ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL! THE ONE RING TO FIND THEM ALL AND IN THE DARKNESS BIND THEM (V+A).
@@chiminsu9400 LOL you are unhinged
Hi Van, Van here! Haha happy to have found your channel ❤
Hi Van!! Thanks for being here! (also, your embroidery is INSANE!)
I DO MATCHA EVERY MORNING LIKE 9AM AFTER BREAKFAST..2 TEASPOON OF MATCHA POWDER AND A HALF A CUP OF WATER..I STIR THEM THEN I DRINK😂..AM DOING RIGHT?
I would definitely get a whisk, (and do warm water) - but to each their own!
You are my new favorite UA-camr ❤
Thank you for the kind words & for being here!!
You have an amazing kitchen!
Thank you! It's been my favorite kitchen of anywhere I've lived so far 😝
a new sub here! i love your aura and how your videos are so raw and comforting :)
Omg hi welcome! And thank you!! 💕
Hello there i'm planning to go to Shanghai at June. How's the weather?will it be comfortable to stroll at day?
That's so exciting! Haha it will be HOT (and also humid!) -- some strolling is definitely doable, but probably not spending the entire day outside!
@@vanessachun1024 thankss
Have never cut Macha with milk or anything. I must try this.😮
It's so good! It's usually my preferred way of drinking it, but no milk is also delicious. Usually people new to matcha tend to cut it with milk or else the taste can be a bit strong -- but good either way!
I love my tea ceremony cups. I have one for each season.❤
Binge watching matcha videos 😂
Love ittt
Hi Van 🤍
Hi girl!!
That's so lovely that you're enjoying your work! It sounds so satisfying. Was that originally what you went to school for? I've been jumping between my career paths and trying to figure out ways to implement my photography with other interests (eco + interior design, styling) and recently been having too much fun building houses on Sims 4 LOL. Also, maybe the tile could be use as a backsplash in your kitchen? Or maybe somewhere you can see it right when you walk into your crib?
Thank you for sharing!!! 🤍 UX is...kind of what I went to school for? I studied communication in undergrad but did UX clubs and then actually studied it for grad school. I think your interests totally all fit together tho!
And for the tile suggestions, thank youuu - I want to put it in the kitchen/entrance but that area of my house is just so dark :( doesn't let the tile shine in the way it deserves, so likely it'll be by a window somewhere, I just haven't found the perfect spot yet!
just came across your channel and I LOVE your vibe <3 sending love through the internet!
Omg late response but THANK YOU! sending love right back atcha & gooo artists!
I recommend making your matcha with warm or cold water since boiling water makes it bitter 💗
Really! I haven't had an issue with things tasting bitter, but definitely have a lot of experimentation to do! Thanks for sharing :)
@@vanessachun1024 of course! Maybe ceremonial matcha is less bitter 💗
Yes, you should never use water over 175 degrees Fahrenheit, it burns the delicate leaves and makes it bitter.
That took forever
it's wild that your not know as you deserve cuz honestly im in love with the way this video is made its just perfectt
Thank you!!!
When I first began ceramics I was, like you, deep into the learning curve. I thought about it constantly. I'd get up to be at the studio at 5am and the go to work and then later often go back at night. I think that is how we all learn. BTW. I just changed how I trim. I bought a fiberglass bat from the potter Hsinchuen Lin--who you probably know. The bat never warps and I can place somewhat delicate pieces on it and not worry about picking the piece up off the bat--instead just flipping the bat over once I remove from the wheel head. Also bought his aluminum bat with inserts and that too I really like. Looking forward to seeing more of your work...
Omg super late reply but THANK YOU for this thoughtful comment and for sharing your experience! I've been traveling a ton lately and thus studio time has gone down, but I can't wait to get back in!
love your energy ❤❤❤
Thanks girl!! I just saw your photography and it's amazing!

I KNOW -- it's unreal...
i have not really had a proper matcha, but one time i bought some beverage with matcha in it and even though it was rancid for some reason, i could tell the matcha had an interesting flavor...A couple years ago i did buy a packet of the "Patenger" brand based on reviews and my money situation. i never got to try it but it had a beautiful vibrant green color in a natural way......Yesterday i watched a video from "Veggiekins," who compares certain brands of matcha sometimes, and apparently she has come out with her own brand which she just did a video on. But in the past i've heard her say that Ippodo is / was her favorite, so i don't know how that compares with the matcha she came out with or the one you use.
Thank you!! I definitely have to try out some new ones :)
Where'd you get your earrings?
I got them in Brazil actually! It's a brand called Vivara :)
Have a great trip! 🙌💙
Thanks!! I just got back and have that post-vacation hangover 😝
I always put my matcha in the fridge after whisking to have it cold cuz I hate putting in the ice, milk, and warm matcha where the ice melts and makes a watery taste lol - just my preference, great video tho
Wow! Definitely an extra step haha, kudos to you! I don't know if I could wait that long 😝
@@vanessachun1024 at night I do it so it’s ready in the morning 👍🏻
Making matcha in hot/boiling water makes it bitter. Making it with normal cold water works. That’s how I do it when I make mine iced
I loved this video! I didn't know about your channel until this morning and you celebrating your small wins made me so emotional! My progress with pottery has been reeeeeaaally slow and I was having a rough time accepting that I'm not good at it YET. Also, you made me remember that I used to love the gym and it really helped me when navigating loss. Although it's not easy and we cannot count on motivation to keep getting better at the things we love, being kinder to ourselves when times are hard really helps with the process. You are doing absolutely great, Van. Thanks for sharing a piece of your life with us ❤
Omg thank you for this lovely comment!! Completely understand slow progress with pottery (as you can see) BUT seeing inspiration of things I want to make just makes me want to improve more haha. Also, I am light years away from loving the gym 🥲 happy that you've felt that way about working out, even if it wasn't in the most ideal of circumstances.
@@vanessachun1024 You are the sweetest. Thank you ❤️
I usually hear many older people say: “don’t worry too much” everything is gonna be fine” you gonna be okay” when they are asked what advice would you give to your younger self? I try to think more about that🤍 Good video about perspective 👏🏻
I trust God’s time too!
Yes and yes! Thank you so much! ALSO, I saw your paintings and you are super talented!!
@@vanessachun1024 Thank you 🥰🤗
Hey Van, I am loving your videos!
Girl, your aesthetic is on point! Do you have scorpio/virgo placements? Also, that shoe apparatus?! wild
Omg thank you! Lol I don't know much about horoscopes but I know I'm a scorpio! ALSO the shoe horn is from ikea and I highly recommend!
I love the how this is filmed!!!!!!! And edited
Thank you so much!
love this, turned 29 myself and had to really convince myself that it's okay to get older and what a privilege it is to grow older and wiser.
It really is! Yay to aging 😝
Love this new channel
Try bracing your elbow on your hip! Your hand needs to be absolutely steady. As soon as I started digging my elbow into my hip the clay was forced to yield. From this video it looks like the clay is pushing your hand instead of the other way around. Also that soup and food you showed after the throwing looked AMAZING. Made me hungry!!
Thank you! I try to keep that in mind but you're right - the clay is definitely pushing me around and not vice versa :P
tysm for linking those art events!
youtube has been recommending me to you lately so ive been watching your videos, keep it up. Im enjoying the content
I didn't saw you put the bamboo whisk in some hot water before using it. I didn't knew some days ago that it was something that is usefull to do because it makes the wisk able to break less. :) Other than that I loved this routine ! I would love to try that Matcha brand out, seems delicious ! :)
Yeah, I saw that some people do that! I just don't because I'm lazy 🙈
i still struggle with centering pieces to trim also 🥲 i cheat a little by making a mark on the bottom while it spins and then i see where i need to position the piece
Haha yes! I do that too sometimes - it's just a whole process...
you're doing great! be kind to yourself c: you're learning and that in itself is amazing <3
Thank you! I’m not one to have a ton of patience during the learning phase haha but I’m doing my best to stay positive!
Yay! We Chicagoans have to stick together!!!! I also love shopping at Trader Joe's and H-Mart! ; )
Yay!! & yes - they are the best!
Definetly a new favorite channel of mine! Love seeing fellow chicagoans!
Thank you! I also love seeing fellow chicagoans :D
love your vibe
This is my favorite vlog so far! I've always wanted to go to Korea, and now I feel like I kind of have by living vicariously through you and this vlog
My favorite part was the "much damage was done here" at Malbon Golf
Omg haha thankssss 🤍 and yes lol SO much damage - you’ll see the all the fits soon
I love your videos and your aesthetic!!! What camera do you use to shoot your YT videos?
Thank you! I use a blend of the Sony a7rii and iPhone, but I wouldn't recommend the a7rii for video! It's just the camera that I have (and I got it originally for photography)
I just found your channel, and I too am from Chicago. I've yet to find a cool /cinematic style vlogger of sorts from here, so I subbed!
Thank you!! Chicago definitely isn't the biggest hub for youtubers, but I'm seeing more and more, so that's awesome :)
@@vanessachun1024 its weird to me that it isn’t. Feels like it would be. Im stoked you are creating
so glad the algorithm brought me to you, i live in chicago as well and your videos are making me want to start vloging and creating content again. what camera do you use? you and your mom are so cute! keep up the work!❤
You totally should! I love seeing Chicago content hehe :) I use the Sony a7rii, which is a great camera but just not for video unfortunately...and I also use my iPhone
I love the quality and feel of your videos. I really hope you continue making them, they’re such a comfort!
