The Occasional Nomad
Australia
Приєднався 11 лип 2015
Random camping trips that I take in the Australian bush when the rare opportunity arises. Some solo, some with mates, some with family. I also love trail running and I share some training runs and competitive events too.
UTA50 2024
My first ever 50km ultra run at the 2024 UTA50 in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney NSW Australia. Blood hard work and the body was definitely pushed to its limits. The weather on the day was very cold and played havoc with my GoPro- as a result I missed recording the finish.

Warrumbungle trail run Breadknife and Grand High Tops
Переглядів 533 роки тому
Grand High Tops run in the Warrumbungle National Park. For runners, if going clockwise, there is a mix of paved easy sections to begin with progressing into steeper sections before ending in a significant climb to the bottom of the breadknife on mostly stairs. Along the breadknife, over the Grand High Tops and back down to Spirey Creek is a mix of easy, smooth through to quite technical and roc...

Menindee Duststorm and Sunset
Переглядів 704 роки тому
I was working at Menindee Lakes earlier this year and camping near Lake Wetherall. It was a race back to camp this day to beat the duststorm and secure the campsite before getting the drone up to catch some decent footage. I manage to get a little bit then had to land before the front arrived. It lasted about an hour then I put the Mavic 2 Pro back up again to catch the beautiful sunset. Music ...
Day hike and camp in the rain
Переглядів 6994 роки тому
I escape for a day hike to do some exercise through a nice piece of forested land. These little gullies and ephemeral creek lines rarely flow unless there is good rain so it was an absolute pleasure to walk alongside and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature out in the Aussie bush with the water gently bubbling along beside me. Follow along as I hike along a couple of these creek lines and t...
Dubbo Lightning 16 Feb 2020
Переглядів 754 роки тому
A short lightning compilation from an hour or so of footage using a GoPro Hero7Black. Recorded at 240fps then slowed down to show some of the amazing detail. Probably still not slow enough but it starts to look jittery if the frame rate is any slower.

Rodriguez Pass. Trail Running (and getting lost - twice) from Govetts Leap via Junction Rock
Переглядів 605 років тому
Join me as I do a 14.5 km loop from Govetts Leap around Rodriquez Pass. Getting lost wasn't part of the plan but good preparation and planning prevented things getting too sideways.Over 950 m of elevation gain on this course. I contemplated editing this back about 15 minutes but figured that if people are going to run or hike this loop they’d want to see as much as possible.
Four night fishing/kayaking trip on the Macleay River
Переглядів 3635 років тому
A five day trip I did on the Macleay River, NSW Australia with a few good mates in early 2018. Plenty of fish to begin the trip before a few big thunderstorms sent the river rising and the water temperatures south, which put the bass off the bite. Great times with great mates.
How’s the serenity ?

Five minutes of water cascading between rocks to relax you mind. Beautiful location on the New South Wales coast

Trail running- Mt Arthur, Wellington, NSW
I saw something like this on a short except it was in Istanbul and everyone thought it was the end of the world
great effort, thanks for sharing.
Bloody proud of you son, even when your body was breaking down your spirit stayed high.
I can’t believe I haven’t come across this before. It looks like a great trip although hard work. Good to see “The Cod” still getting into them. Graeme posted more photos of big bass and great scenery than anybody back in the day of Ausbass.
Great video! Thanks for recording it. I haven't done the 22k yet, so good to see it's totally acceptable to walk up the hills & courtesy on the narrow steps.
Don’t suppose you fellas feel like getting back out there and giving us a video of the new course? 😬 Haha, thanks for this though! It has eased my nerves a bit, getting some idea of what to expect 👍🙏
Hey mate, planning a similar trip atm. What was your entry point? Halls peak or further up?
G’day Sam. Hall’s Peak was our entry point. Low water meant lots of walking and dragging until the Macleay. Then we had storms and high water that turned the fish off, lol. Great trip though!
@@TheOccasionalNomad cheers mate doing the same trip in Jan
ธรรมชาติสวยงามครับ💖💖💖🌹🌹
Very Good! Loved the “rain shield “ for the fire. But especially liked that you took the time to COMPLETELY put out your fire ! Well done !
Thanks for your video. I tried to run the 22 course but got lost in the sewerage works area. I never saw any sign like you have shown at 16:12. But I can see it is a left turn just after that sewerage access lid - which I think I recall. My Strava was: www.strava.com/activities/4298716551
Thanks for watching mate. It’s been a while since I’ve run it so can’t remember to clearly where to go myself. I’ll have to get back down there soon to do some training runs for this year’s UTA22. Handy tip may be to run this section in reverse so you know where to run on the way back. It’s about 5.5 km from Scenic World back down to the point where you had some difficulty finding where to go so would be a good training run that incorporates Furber Steps. All the best.
@@TheOccasionalNomad Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!!! (Yes - I was thinking about doing it in reverse but your video made me pretty confident) I just remembered that sewer lid and the post and found it straight away - easy as! Today's training run was 6 minutes off my age record (2:08:01), which is what I am aiming for in the 2021... www.strava.com/activities/4643929805. Thanks again - helped me heaps!

Awesome! Was that a storm with strong winds just picking up dust?
That's incredible
Do you not know tornadoes can suck you up and die
They sure can Lindsey. Thanks for your concern. Luckily for me the camera was on a tripod while I was safely inside and this was not a tornado.

Wow is fire but i don know!
So cool!!
ARTILLERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! That’s is one impressive gust front. How did that storm form? How strong the wind gusts get in was there any thunder and lightning with the passage of the gust front and the storm?
Thanks for the questions and the like. Dust storms were relatively common during the most recent drought we had here in South Eastern Australia. With little or no ground cover the wind would pick up any loose soil and blow it hundreds or even thousands of kilometres. Most of the time the dust storms weren’t extreme like this in, but occasionally there’d be a thunderstorm or a cold front push through with a gust front the would really whip the dust up. The wind during this particular storm was about 50-60km/h. We’ve had some good rain since and the landscape is looking so much better.
Wow

That is beautiful. I've been dying to get out but between work and everything completely shut down around me, I'm limited to short walks. Thank you for uploading.
Hello, Can I pls contact you about using this footage?
You just have
bruh 😂
This is friggin amazing
This has happened before, right?
G’day Nicholas, yes, it has happened before. I’ve not looked at any data but my feeling is that it hasn’t happened on this scale and not as often as what we’re experiencing at the moment. Until inland Australia gets some decent rain that allows ground cover (grasses, shrubs etc) to regenerate this will keep on happening.
Terrible. Thank you for your reply and added feedback. Best wishes from here in Melbourne. Nice vid btw.. subscribed !
It went across the whole nsw very crazy
Hello, how are you? I'm a journalist with news agency @AFP. Did you film this? If yes, could we please have your permission to share it under the terms at www.afp.com/en/clearance? Thanks, Esther esther.chan@afp.com

How's the form of your mates that ditched you to watch some stupid footy game.....shame on them Nomad!!!
It was a good game, so won’t go too hard on them!
Constructive feedback is always welcome. I look forward to reading your comments. Thanks!
First person to get right how many times I say amazing gets 10 points, plus I’ll pin their name in the comments for kudos.

No banjos in this one mate.
I was so relaxed I needed to pee.....
Thanks mate, raced today. This video was really helpful for my planning.
Awesome. Glad I could lend a hand. I hope you went well.
The Occasional Nomad ran a 2:12 and didn’t have much left in the legs for the stairs. So was happy with that.
I like trail reviews and would like to evolve my channel to do the same thing. Keep it up.
Proud of you son...
