I’ve pivoted my crafting focus recently, moving away from dot mandalas and doing beading and diamond painting instead. My interests seem to last three years or so and then I move on to the next shiny thing. So, if you’re a regular follower of my dot mandalas, I may still post something related to that every once in a while, but I’m shifting to more generalized crafting since I like to do a little bit of everything. Hopefully you’ll stick with me on my crafting journey, but if not, I totally understand.
I haven’t updated my Facebook page in a few years because I just assumed no one would be interested in me posting beading projects, but maybe that’s not true. I don’t know.
So today’s project came from a beaded bracelet design that I did. I was really happy with how it turned out and I decided to make a matching pair of earrings. A lot of folks really liked them when I posted it to a couple of beading groups I’m a part of on Facebook, and I got a few requests for how to make them. I figured it’s easier to show than to tell, at least for me, and this way anyone can have access to my method anytime they want.

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get started.
Now, the beading rule that I’ve found most helpful during my beading journey is: There are no rules. So, there may be better, more efficient ways of making these types of earrings, but this is my way. Find what works best for you.
This project requires:
1. Frame Form. Frame forms come in all shapes, sizes, and metals. Today I’m using a 20mm metal square, in gold color.
2. Beads. I’m using 11/0 Myuki Delica for this project but you can use round seed beads, and you can use smaller 15/0 beads to get even more design detail. The colors I’m using today are cream and pink, but of course you can use whatever colors you’d like.
3. Beading thread. You can use any kind of beading thread that will fit through the beads, but my preference for this project is Nymo-B with 11/0 beads, and Nymo-00 for 15/0 beads. I also sometimes use K.O. thread when I want to use a specific color, and K.O. has lots of colors. For this video tutorial I’ve used gold K.O. so that the thread blends in with the color of the frame itself.
4. Beading needle. I generally use a size 12 beading needle.
5. Ear wires or earring findings of your choice. Here I’ve used gold-tone ear wires.
Instructions:
1. To get started, cut a length of thread about 5 feet long, and fold it in half to find the center. Stretch the thread to straighten it, if needed.
2. Attach the thread to the frame by sliding the center loop through the frame and then pulling the loose ends through the thread loop (called a lark’s head knot).
3. Thread your needle with the two loose ends of thread.
4. String your first set of beads, just like you would for a loom project.
5. Lay the string of beads behind the frame, across the opening, and wrap the thread up and around the front side of the frame. Then thread the needle back down through the same beads, making sure to keep the needle on the outside/front of the frame when you come out of the bottom bead, in this way sandwiching the frame between the thread. Pull the thread to tighten the strand on the frame.
6. Continue this way until your design is finished.
7. Remove a single strand of thread from your needle, leaving one still attached, and pass through the bottom corner of the frame, just so one thread is on one side of the frame and the other thread is coming out of the other side. Tie the threads together with a simple knot, then do it again.
8. Re-thread the needle with both threads and pass them up through the last string of beads, coming out anywhere near the top.
9. Trim the thread and tuck it inside the beads.
10. Add the ear wire to complete the earring.
