Aprilia Tuareg Major Service Part 5 Pinning Out The Motor
Переглядів 5033 місяці тому
How to pin out the motor and camshafts, most of this video is going over how you can use drill bits and how you can modify them to the right size... kind of a tangent video. You can skip over all of the drill bit modifying if you want to.. it's just me giving you an idea of how you could do it with tools you probably already have.
Aprilia Tuareg Major Service Part 4 Valve Access and Measuring

Some ideas on how to measure the valve clearances on the Tuareg.. what I've learned so far. We're getting into the more technical side of it in this video, so expect some rambling and bad math for the next few videos lol.. don't drink beer and do metric conversions in your head folks

Maple Springs Overlook downhill.. this should be easy to do with your hands on the handlebars, but the whole purpose of this is to lay a base line for a downhill course for people to do with NO HANDS on the handlebars.. I'll post another video with me trying it handless soon. It's a lot harder to do handless.

Thank you for sharing!
No problem. Let me know if you have any questions
@@DonkeyDongDoug Will do. I'm slowly working my way through the videos. Because we ride mostly off road, we're not racking miles too fast and probably wont be due for valve service for another year. But it sure is nice to know what to expect ahead of time. Thank you again!
@@WyomingFamilyAdventures I'm hoping that someone puts out a better series on the same topic. I'm not the best person to make these kinds of videos, but figured I would at least give it a shot since no one else had done it yet for any of the Aprilia 660 motors. My dealer gave me a quote of $950 just to do the valve check and I was like "nah, I'm going to pass"
@DonkeyDongDoug I became a youtuber by mishap. I'm definitely not sponsored or professional, but like you, enjoy sharing and helping others. You should check out some of the adventures we've done on the Tuareg.
You should have ditched the paper filter first up, mine been clean as a Whistle, with the foam filter.
The top of the fuel pump looks very similar to my Sherco SEF. I wonder if instead of bending the retaining clip (Which my Sherco doesn't have) you could have twisted the whole fuel line counterclockwise about 90 degrees and pulled it off that way. Careful using tools on the gray retainer - they are notorious for failing on Shercos after removing several times. You should be able to push the gray retainer down with your fingers and pull the fuel line straight up. Here's a video removing the line on a Sherco ua-cam.com/video/urvdhbkAp-I/v-deo.html
Thanks for the information. I tried all kind of different attacks on it, and may have even tried pushing down on the tabs like in that video,, but maybe I wasn't holding my tongue right.
Great series of video, thank you ! But I'm also disappointed because I was hoping to see spark plugs removal 😅 How far do we need to go in disassembly to replace the spark plugs ?
@@Azure_Bujanga once the side fairings and gas tank are removed.. you should have easy access to the spark plugs. It may sound like a lot but it's probably 30 minutes worth of work if you get good at it. Taking the fairings on/off for this bike is a breeze.
Thank you for making this series of videos outlining how you tackled this procedure. It will no doubt save me plenty of time when I have a crack at it myself and for this I thank you. Which shop manual did you use and where did you obtain it from?
The service manual is available on AF1s website. It's about $20 and downloadable www.af1racing.com/manual-2q000524-oem-aprilia-service-manual-for-tuareg-2q000524 They also have a parts catalog available to download as well. All of the part numbers can be put into the search bar on their website www.af1racing.com/tuareg-660-oem-parts-catalog

Merci beaucoup super vidéo bonne explication
Thank you for the comments. I'm not going to reply to all of them though, lol. I used to speak French pretty decently, but that was a long time ago and have forgotten most of it.
merci c'est super je vais te suivre de Paris
Thank you very much for your hard work to show us how it is done!
thanks for watching.. I have no clue what I am doing so at least we're all learning together
@@DonkeyDongDoug I thought that it was probably over my head to attempt, but now I have no doubt! So it was very helpful to me sir! Thanks again!
@@terrywest5735 it's really not that bad.. just requires some time and patience. Maybe don't do it in the middle of riding season unless you have other bikes to keep you happy for a couple weeks though, lol.
@@DonkeyDongDoug 👍
I know that feeling when looking in at the butterfly valves and they're not factory sparkling clean from dust, dirt or even a micro speck. That feeling is so different than the one you get when things work the way they're supposed to work (from day one to the last mile and year a bike ever runs).
yeah, it wasn't a good feeling. I think most of it came from the Uni filter that I tried late last year. Going to try the Sprint filter this next time, and try to keep a better eye on it.
@19:15 , added something I learned upon reassembly. The clamps on the throttle body air tubes are Clic R style clamps.. not oetiker. I had never seen this style of clamp before. They're reusable but require a special tool to remove and reinstall them without damaging the clamp. I go over a few options for special tools that you can purchase, and also give you search recommendations that can be entered into Aprilia Forums dot com to make your own. I left the original content in there to show how dumb I am now that I know this information.. I would purchase or make any of the special tools instead of trying to use the ball end of a hex key to remove those bolts. I'm paying the price for that on reassembly.
Chase, could you please post the part number/SKU of the filler gauges you bought from McMaster-Carr? I believe its the SKU: 2066A7
correct www.mcmaster.com/2066A7/
After remeasuring today.. You can get a measurement on the intake cams from the front side of the bike with the short blades, but you can't really see what you're doing like you can from the back side of the cams.
You need the "special tool" to make removing that fuel quick connector. These are cheap and make the removal job effortless.
@@jamesklauzner6938 they don't list a "special tool" in the service manual for that. If you can find a part number for it then I am all ears

Can we have more drunk math videos? "mill-uh-meet-er"
Sure.. anything for you bud😂
love the dogs. hate the sand lol
You need to replace that paper air filter ASAP with anyone of the aftermarket air filters
It's on my list.. will probably try DNA this next time.
There is I believe quite a # of specialty tools that will REALLY cost you I think. Should be covered in the Shop Manual. Your little box is just the tip of the iceberg.
Others have done this job without needing to purchase the special tools.. I haven't been able to work on the bike for a few days, because of life, but this will be covered. I wound up making my own camshaft tensioning tool.. but I may need to modify It a little.
@@DonkeyDongDoug I will be happy to watch your progress. I'm only 7,000 mi in on my Tuareg. Thanks for the reply
@@1young-geezer Thanks.. I'm still trying to figure things out. I'm not in a huge rush on it, but hope to have it done within the next month or so... but would also like a working motorcycle at the end of it lol.. plus filming everything adds some time to the process.

I like the content. Love the shirt. lol "YoU'rE dOiNg iT wRoNg!" I do hate when you get to something that looks so simple, and you just can't get past it. Like some little hidden tab somewhere you got to hit, or line something up just right.... ugh.
don't worry.. plenty more content to come from this. I have my valve measurements now.. have to tear the valvetrain apart to get to the shims and see what I have in there though. That's the part that's going to suck
I hope it turns out OK too... I say that everytime I just do the oil and filter... lol
Sexy.
windstream keeps sending me emails about "fiber is coming soon".. so 4k videos will be getting uploaded two years from now.
@@DonkeyDongDoug Elon can save you. All you have to do is accept him in your heart and a Starlink dish appears on your roof.
Don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious 🤣
I was so lost.. I didn't know what was going to happen :D
Wrong turn?
I was going to meet Rackhouse in Ellijay.. I usually go across Fort Mountain to get my early morning twisties in on the way there. There weren't any "Road Closed" signs or deputies blocking the road. Thankfully the cop at the end of the video didn't give me any shit. I had something like this happen to me once when I was 16, and I have been stewing on it for the last 20 years
Did you break your mirror by riding too close to the Popeye's drive-thru?
Some nerd on a Ninja 300 got mad because he couldn't keep up with me on Blood.. so he smashed my mirror. Very rude behavior
audio sounds pretty good!
I was pleased with it. Had to turn it down a little in post, but I can live with that
Never can be on autopilot on a bike. Good awareness and reaction.
that looked like good time. sorry I missed out!
We'll catch up next time.
@@DonkeyDongDoug for sure!
Spoiler alert. It handles it great lol. Also, I can’t get enough of that induction sound. Chefs kiss
This was my first real time using the 360... I may see if the DJI Mic I have will work with it, and hopefully pipe some of that EAR BLEEDING induction noise into a mic. It's sooo fucking loud, but sooooooo good
